Wonder Why We Ever Go Home
By: jimmy buffett
1977
Years grow shorter, not longer
The more youve been on your own
Feelins for movin grow stronger
So you wonder why you ever go home
Wonder why you ever go home
People are movin so quickly
Humors in need of repair
Same occupations and same obligations
Theyve really go nothing to share
Like drivin around with no spare
River gets deeper not shallow
The further you move down the stream
Wonderin if I can keep her
As I race to catch up with my dreams
How they shine and glitter and gleam
Years grow shorter, not longer
The more youve been on your own
Feelins for movin grow stronger
So you wonder why you ever go home
Wonder why you ever go home
You wonder why you ever go home

SEASONS and MY AUTUMN
When the year grows old
and I grow older too,
I sympathize with the last few months
but anticipate the new.
When the days grow longer
and the nights are shorter too
the pleasure that comes with it
the clock cannot undo.
For men made the clock
to keep track of time.
But God made the seasons
and I know that I'm
slowly approaching autumn,
the autumn of my years
and recognize my connection
to the worldly spheres.
I do not take kindly
to the ending of the year.
But all things on this earth
come to an end I fear.

The Shorter Catechism
I burned my fingers on the stove
And wept with bitterness;
But poor old Auntie Maggie strove
To comfort my distress.
Said she: 'Think, lassie, how you'll burn
Like any wicked besom
In fires of hell if you don't learn
Your Shorter Catechism.'
A man's chief end is it began,
(No mention of a woman's),
To glorify--I think it ran,
The God who made poor humans.
And as I learned, I thought: if this--
(My distaste growing stronger),
The Shorter Catechism is,
Lord save us from the longer.
The years have passed and I begin
(Although I'm far from clever),
To doubt if when we die in sin
Our bodies grill forever.
Now I've more surface space to burn,
Since I am tall and lissom,
I think it's hell enough to learn
The Shorter Catechism.

O Child Of Mine Grow No-Older
Place your head upon my shoulder
O child of mine grow no-older.
Less life's platitudes make you stronger.
Stay with me a little longer!
Misfortune' rings her lowly bell
She's waiting there to here you, yell.
Solemnly she's genial but who should tell.
She'd wish all that's virtuous smote in hell!
O child of mine grow no-older.
Than the stone Jesus Christ moreover!
Newborn, bold-over...

Changing the Picture.
As we grow older we should become wiser,
But our bodies are aging without stopper.
However, all the time we should love our bodies,
Because what we are, we made it with our theories.
What we think or say never goes anywhere,
Comes back to us, we are what is there.
That is the reason for the wisdom to heed,
Keep mind focused on the best quality of thoughts as a seed.
What you think that is what you are,
Do not put yourself between a negative bar.
When love, peace, contentment & kindness is the way,
Nothing will bother you, you'll have happiness every day.

Lies About Tall Guys
Just seems like it’s that way to me
Taller guys seem to get executive jobs
Shorter guys work mostly as clerks
Taller guys never seem to be slobs
Shorter guys always seem to be jerks
Taller guys seem to get all of the action
Shorter guys seem to be quite invisible
Taller guys always seem to deserve satisfaction
Shorter guys are lonely and miserable
Just seems like it’s that way to me
Taller guys just seem born to play sports
Shorter guys kinda seem to like tennis
Taller guys certainly look better in shorts
Shorter guys look like Dennis the Menace
Taller guys are usually at the top of their class
Shorter guys seem to fail quite a lot
Taller guys always seem to kick ass
Shorter guys want to, but simply cannot
sure seems like it’s that way to me
Taller guys get better grades and such
Shorter guys seem to barely scrape by
Taller guys seem to do better, pretty much
Shorter guys always wonder why
Taller guys seem to have eyes like a hawk
Shorter guys seem to wear glasses a lot
Taller guys cover more ground when they walk
Shorter guys, to keep up, have to trot
Sure seems like it’s that way to me
Taller guys and their friends look like N.B.A players
Shorter guys look more like cheerleaders
Taller guys seem to look like dragon slayers
Shorter guys look a lot more like bleeders
Taller guys seem to have more gear to protect
Shorter guys wear more protective gear
Taller guys, more confidence seem to project
Shorter guys have less confidence, more fear
Really seems like it’s that way to me
Taller guys appeal to the female gender
Shorter guys always seem to choke
Taller guys carry a lot more legal tender
Shorter guys always seem to be broke
Taller guys seem to drive high dollar cars
Shorter guys drive toyotas
Taller guys seem to reach for the stars
Shorter guys reach for diet sodas
Taller guys are obnoxious, let’s neuter them all
Shorter guys are great people, always a delight
Taller guys are an abomination against mother nature’s law
If you think I’m a short guy….well, you’re right!
Really seems like the way it should be

Winter and Summer
Winter
Snow covered
Days grow shorter
Fun filled snow days
Cold bitter season of warmth
Long days of relaxation
Days grow longer
No school
Summer

Older They Grow But Not Up
Older they grow,
But not up!
Many never experience a maturity.
Raised on entertaining limited thoughts.
And few have abilities,
To comprehend little of what they read.
Or take the responsibility,
To hold themselves accountable...
For actions begun and those they leave.
Older they grow,
But not up!
And demands they make,
To satisfy their spoiled ways.
Since no one around them wants to hear them fuss.
Realizing not one of those fussers who also cuss,
Wants to take a position,
To make a decisive decision.
Since accusations are prioritized in their lives lived,
As a must.
And expectations are less for them.
For those exposed to them growing older...
Knowing these minds have no time left.
For them to show a growing up,
With a thoughtfulness.
Older they may grow...
But for them it sure is not up!

Mortal Wrinkles
The window arrests me by its side
Through its square making me ride
Every day a serene green does it show
Feel but today gonna be a different show
The studded trees afar
The nearer trees so far
'Ve been welcomming me to join
The peaks up and the valleys down
The stroking clouds and the murmuring stream..
My soul steps out
Soon reports to have a lookout
Lay there apart two sunset bodies bushed over
As if felled trees with running dews cry over
And my mind back in the past to myself stare...
'A man and a woman happily together
Walking and chatting over years earlier
Deeper, longer and wander
Grow older and older; Their fled children afar..'
Moribund pair one here malignantly in solitary fear

Let It Grow
(by eric clapton)
Im standin at the crossroads
Tryin to read the signs
To tell me which way I should
Go to find the answer
And all the time I know
Let your love and let it grow.
Let it grow, let it grow,
Let it blossom, let it flow.
In the sun and in the snow
Love is lovely, let it grow.
Lookin for a reason
To check out on my mind.
Its so hard to find a
Friend that I can count on.
Theres nothin left to show,
Plant your love and let it grow.
Let it grow...
Time is gettin shorter
And theres much for you to do,
Only askn you will get what you are needin,
The rest is up to you.
Plant your love and let it grow.
Let it grow...

Everyone Is Growing Older
Between warring Countries hostilities do not last
And 'tis true your friend of tomorrow may be your foe of the past
But life goes on as usual that's how it seems to be
And we make friends with the old foe to fight our new common enemy
And everyone grows older but few grow wise and gray
For we still glorify the folly of war in the World of today
And we find things in common when we have a common foe
But as we do grow older few of us do wiser grow,
We celebrate war heroes to die in war is not seen as a sin
And when one war it is over another war begin
To use the name of God in war seems hypocritical that would seem fair to say
And to Moses fifth commandment respect we never pay
Crimes of hate and xenophobia sad to say are on the rise
And everyone is growing older but so few are growing wise.

Selfish
When we are young,
we are selfish
and want all the fruit on the tree.
As we grow older
we respect everything that is there,
and only want a little
of what stands before us there.
We become unselfish
and the word is replaced with share.
As we grow, older
all we want to do is share.

It's the nights
It's the nights…
It's the nights
that are the loneliest
The days grow shorter
The nights grow longer
And Morpheus morphs into a tempest
In the dismal dark, I grow cold
The old feel
of comfort, lost
I've naively let
Life slip away
And at such a terrible cost
I used to be somebody…
A person
In my own right
Now I've become nobody,
Alone…especially in the
Dark of night
I've lost all the things
That I once loved
All things I thought were right
Now in my mind…at night…alone
I cannot find
A place to put my mind at rest
Tis the nights…I dread
In my lonely bed…Tis the nights
That are the loneliest

Some Say 'I'd Rather Be Dead Than Poor
SOME SAY 'I'D RATHER BE DEAD THAN POOR ''
Some Say 'I'd rather be dead than poor'
Others, 'Poor than dead',
I am in the meantime working on and being worked on
for both-
The day will come
although it will be regrettably much longer than a day
when I shall have small pleasure in them-
Poorer and poorer
weaker and weaker
I grow older and older
How long I do not know
How much my meek efforts will delay it
if at all-
I do not know-
I do not know
But the time is coming

The Mountains That We Climb
As we grow older,
the mountains we climb
get harder everyday
than when we were young.
Still we climb them,
as our work is never done.
Our bones may be brittle,
our bodies almost worn out,
but our brain is still active,
so we carry on.

That's What Mitts Are For!
As we grow older,
cell renewal slower.
Help it perform faster,
Just be a scrubber!
Remove the old,
and lo behold!
New skin smooth,
longer youth!
Color Me Autumn
Clouds and glooms hang
Sunshine nowhere in sight.
Herein lies an autumn mood.
Daylight shorter and shorter,
darkness longer and longer,
trees know winter is nigh.
Fallen amber leaves make beds
bare trees-limbs just
as empty as my arms.
Green leaves disappeared,
yellow and orange appears.
Color despair and sadness
with a coat of autumn
Making winter the etching;
make spring the oil painting and
Autumn a mosaic of them all…
What luminous work of art!

Primary
The innocence of sleeping children
Dressed in white
And slowly dreaming
Stops all time
Slow my steps and start to blur
So many years have filled my heart
I never thought i'd say those words
The further we go
And older we grow
The more we know ...
The less we show ...
The very first time i saw your face
I thought of a song
And quickly changed the tune
The very first time i touched your skin
I thought of a story
And rushed to reach the end
Too soon
Oh remember
Please
Don't change
So the fall came
Thirteen years
A shiny ring
And how i could forget your name
The air no longer in my throat
Another perfect lie is choked
But it always feels the same
So they close together
Dressed in red and yellow
Innocent forever
Sleeping children in their blue soft rooms
Still dream
The further we go
And older we grow
The more we know ...
