Welcome To the Madhouse (Fun Poem 108)
Welcome to the madhouse
where bigger nuts come in
and are promoted when they stay.
Their ideas are outrageous
bordering on the ridiculous
but they are taken up anyway.
Welcome to the madhouse
they never turn a nutter away
the more ludicrous your ideas
the more they like it here.
Some of our charges
have been voted into Parliament,
some have even received
a gong from the Queen.
Welcome to the madhouse
we never turn a nutcase away.

Hold On To Your Hat
Hold on to your head
Hold on to your hat
You're screaming down the alley
And never coming back
Get out of my bod
Get out of the sack
Don't give me no lip
Don't give me no crap
No way
Get out the madhouse
Tear it all down
Get out the madhouse
Burn it to the ground
Got to

Madhouse
There is a growing concern...
Someone overqualified,
Seeks to run the madhouse.
The inhabitants have become disturbed.
How could someone of high integrity,
Desire to correct...
The madness digested.
The one who comes,
Is unlike the other ones.
This one comes free of derangement.
And suspicion clouds the faces,
Of those who are stunned.
And everything done,
Begins to upset everyone.
No one has tried to fix the madhouse.
And those inside despise,
Anyone who does not decieve with lies!

My Madhouse
I was made to appear in a madhouse.
My father’s beard was as black
As the night of the last night,
His legs were nimble, his bellowing
Much more in time with suicide.
In some ways, it was a relish
To consume and offer
The eternal moments of pain
And suffering, the suicidal questions.
I dreamed of great insects,
Of my father in a suit of death;
My elegy shall provide the material
And finances for his burial.
Still let the search be on in these walls,
This madhouse appeared to be
A sanctuary for the distressed.

Viewed from the summit of reason, all life looks like a malignant disease and the world like a madhouse.

Viewed from the summit of reason, all life looks like a malignant disease and the world like a madhouse.

We do not have to visit a madhouse to find disordered minds our planet is the mental institution of the universe.

We do not have to visit a madhouse to find disordered minds; our planet is the mental institution of the universe.

Oh, who am I trying to kid? It's a madhouse. The minute those cameras go off, things just explode, everyone is just at each other in one way or another, in closets or cat fights here and there. It's nuts. You know, I can't be a part of it.

The Shoelace
a woman, a
tire that’s flat, a
disease, a
desire: fears in front of you,
fears that hold so still
you can study them
like pieces on a
chessboard…
it’s not the large things that
send a man to the
madhouse. death he’s ready for, or
murder, incest, robbery, fire, flood…
no, it’s the continuing series of small tragedies
that send a man to the
madhouse…
not the death of his love
but a shoelace that snaps
with no time left …
The dread of life
is that swarm of trivialities
that can kill quicker than cancer
and which are always there -
license plates or taxes
or expired driver’s license,
or hiring or firing,
doing it or having it done to you, or
roaches or flies or a
broken hook on a
screen, or out of gas
or too much gas,
the sink’s stopped-up, the landlord’s drunk,
the president doesn’t care and the governor’s
crazy.
light switch broken, mattress like a
porcupine;
$105 for a tune-up, carburetor and fuel pump at
sears roebuck;
and the phone bill’s up and the market’s
down
and the toilet chain is
broken,
and the light has burned out -
the hall light, the front light, the back light,
the inner light; it’s
darker than hell
and twice as
expensive.
then there’s always crabs and ingrown toenails
and people who insist they’re
your friends;
there’s always that and worse;
leaky faucet, christ and christmas;
blue salami, 9 day rains,
50 cent avocados
and purple
liverwurst.
or making it
as a waitress at norm’s on the split shift,
or as an emptier of
bedpans,
or as a carwash or a busboy
or a stealer of old lady’s purses
leaving them screaming on the sidewalks
with broken arms at the age of 80.
suddenly
2 red lights in your rear view mirror
and blood in your
underwear;
toothache, and $979 for a bridge
$300 for a gold
tooth,
and china and russia and america, and
long hair and short hair and no
hair, and beards and no
faces, and plenty of zigzag but no
pot, except maybe one to piss in
and the other one around your
gut.
with each broken shoelace
out of one hundred broken shoelaces,
one man, one woman, one
thing
enters a
madhouse.
so be careful
when you
bend over.

Close To Greatness
at one stage in my life
I met a man who claimed to have
visited Pound at St. Elizabeths.
then I met a woman who not only
claimed to have visited
E.P.
but also to have made love
to him—she even showed
me
certain sections in the
Cantos
where Ezra was supposed to have
mentioned
her.
so there was this man and
this woman
and the woman told me
that Pound had never
mentioned a visit from this
man
and the man claimed that the
lady had had nothing to do
with the
master
that she was a
charlatan
and since I wasn't a
Poundian scholar
I didn't know who to
believe
but one thing I do
know: when a man is
living
many claim relationships
that are hardly
so
and after he dies, well,
then it's everybody's
party.
my guess is that Pound
knew neither the lady or the
gentleman
or if he knew
one
or if he knew
both
it was a shameful waste of
madhouse
time.

Mnner Des Westens - Any Kind Of Land
The rock is on
It's gettin' more and more
It's gettin' weird
You got the wholy land
Got tomorrow land
You got a madhouse land
You got any, any, any kind of land

The Satin Shoes
'If ever I walk to church to wed,
As other maidens use,
And face the gathered eyes,' she said,
'I'll go in satin shoes!'
She was as fair as early day
Shining on meads unmown,
And her sweet syllables seemed to play
Like flute-notes softly blown.
The time arrived when it was meet
That she should be a bride;
The satin shoes were on her feet,
Her father was at her side.
They stood within the dairy door,
And gazed across the green;
The church loomed on the distant moor,
But rain was thick between.
'The grass-path hardly can be stepped.
The lane is like a pool!' -
Her dream is shown to be inept,
Her wish they overrule.
'To go forth shod in satin soft
A coach would be required!'
For thickest boots the shoes were doffed -
Those shoes her soul desired….
All day the bride, as overborne,
Was seen to brood apart,
And that the shoes had not been worn
Sat heavy on her heart.
From her wrecked dream, as months flew on,
Her thought seemed not to range.
'What ails the wife?' they said anon,
'That she should be so strange?'…
Ah - what coach comes with furtive glide -
A coach of closed-up kind?
It comes to fetch the last year's bride,
Who wanders in her mind.
She strove with them, and fearfully ran
Stairward with one low scream:
'Nay - coax her,' said the madhouse man,
'With some old household theme.'
'If you will go, dear, you must fain
Put on those shoes - the pair
For your marriage, which the rain
Forbade you then to wear.'
She clapped her hands, flushed joyous hues;
'O yes - I'll up and ride
If I am to wear my satin shoes
And be a proper bride!'
Out then her little foot held she,
As to depart with speed;
The madhouse man smiled pleasantly
To see the wile succeed.
She turned to him when all was done,
And gave him her thin hand,
Exclaiming like an enraptured one,
'This time it will be grand!'
She mounted with a face elate,
Shut was the carriage door;
They drove her to the madhouse gate,
And she was seen no more….
Yet she was fair as early day
Shining on meads unmown,
And her sweet syllables seemed to play
Like flute-notes softly blown.

Only Thing That Looks Good On Me Is You
I don't look good in no Armani Suits
No Gucci shoes - or designer boots
I've tried the latest lines from A to Z
But there's just one thing that looks good on me
The only thing I want
The only thing I need
The only thing I choose
The only thing that looks good on me...is you
I'm not satisfied with Versace style
Put those patent leather pants - in the circular file
Sometimes I think - I might be lookin' good
But there's only one thing that fits me like it should
The only thing I want
The only thing I need
The only thing I choose
The only thing that looks good on me...is you
Ya it's you - it could only be you
Nobody else will ever do
Ya baby it's you - that I stick to
Ya we stick like glue
The only thing I want
The only thing I need
The only thing I choose
The only thing that looks good on me...is you

Future Madhouse
In the morning your try to recover
But you still got the red in your eyes
Then you get up and look at the mirror
And you see the beast arise
Got a big red nose from the overdose
And somebody else's eyes
And you think to thee is it really me
And you have to realize
The prize that you pay for a moment like this
Is never for high 'cause you still doing it
Don't you know that we all stand in line
Our future dreams are just a waste of time
Our future -is a madhouse and we all are movin' in
Cause the world - needs some action and there nothing left to gain
Take your baggy

Same Thing Over
You say you're going to turn a leaf.
But it's the same thing over.
You say you're going to release your grief.
But it's the same thing over.
You say no more to jumping through hoops.
You say you're going to do what you choose.
You say you're going to be free and loose...
But it's the same thing over.
You say you're picking up more speed.
But it's the same thing.
You say new rhythms you now beat.
But it's the same thing.
You say more of life you will see...
But it's the same thing over.
You say more of life you will see.
But it's the same thing!
It's the same thing.
Same thing you will bring into your life,
Until it's over.
