For many years I had heard about an underworld consisting of people who act out a vampire fantasy while I was living in New York. Fortunately for me there are also several books on the phenomena.

The vampire underworld is much larger than most people could imagine. It exists in all the cities mentioned in the book, but also in many, many more. Teenagers, especially, seem to like to act out vampire fantasies.

Underworld (live)
To the underworld
To the underworld i'm going down
Step into the ground
Into the breath of/from the gutter of the underworld
What will be i don't know
And i don't care if somebody's asking me
But i never will go
Back to the places where i once used to be
I don't care who you were
Cause we never stay the same
Every moment's a change in the concrete game
I don't care where you've been
Everybody's astray
Like a homeless bird in the stormy bays
Of the underworld
Of the underworld
Welcome, welcome to the underworld
Now i'm on my way cause i'm out of bounds
Direction unknown which is always
What you don't understand
Vague vision in front as the past
Is calling from the lost and found
Never ever turn around, don't wait
And you'll work it out, work it out
I don't care who you were
Cause we never stay the same
Every moment's a change in the concrete game
I don't care where you've been
Everybody's astray
Like a hopeless bird in the stormy bays
Of the underworld
Of the underworld
Welcome, welcome to the underworld

New York Times
New york poor new york
New york poor new york
Cars choking your child to death
But you dont wanna see
Cause you only think about yourself
How blind can you be
New york poor new york
Sniper on the rooftop new york
New york poor new york
Not fit for a dog in new york
Everybody bites on the big apple
Leave the hungry in tears
But no one gives a damn no one really cares
How they feel theyre just paper people not real
You need a gun to walk into new york
Now youre broke and youre out on a ledge
Who can help you this time
Now youre down to your very last cent
Still youre askin me who was your friend
I was your friend
New york poor new york
Who turned the lights out in new york
New york poor new york
Just another blackout in new york
Girl dead on the 26th floor
But no one knew her name
Found her body behind the door
Too young for the game
New york poor new york
Devils in the subway new york
New york poor new york
New york poor new york
Talkin talkin talkin - watch out
Harlem touching midtown new york
New york poor new york
Talkin bout new york new york
Moneys getting tighter new york
Theyre burning the bridges to new york

From Now On
Monday has come around again
Im in the same old place
With the same old faces always watching me
Whe knows how long Ill have to stay
Could be a hundred years
Of sweat and tears
At the rate that I get paid
Sometimes I slowly drift away
From all the dull routine
Thats with me every day
A fantasy will come to me
Diamonds are what I really need
Think Ill rob a store, escape the law
And live in italy
Lately my luck has been so bad
You know the roulette wheels
A crooked deal
Im loosing all I had
Soon be like a man thats on the run
And live from day to day
Never needing anyone
Play hide and seek
Throughout the week
My life is full of romance
Guess Ill always have to be
Living in a fantasy
Thats the way its got to be
From now on
You think Im crazy I can see
Its you for you, and me for me
Living in a fantasy
From now on

What I'm working on now - I'm back to fantasy, although considering that it's me, I'm turning it into a kind of science fantasy. It's a vampire story - but my vampires are biological vampires. They didn't become vampires because someone bit them; they were born that way.

Play On Love
Now when you open your mouth, what comes out
Whats the first word, whats the first line?
When you open your mouth and love comes out
Then you know, you just sang the clear line
Ive heard people say it a thousand times
In a thousand different ways
Ive heard people play it a thousand times
And they know, they know thats the only way
To play.
You got to
Play on love
Play on love
Play on love
Play on love.
Now are you talking about what it is you know
Or just repeating what it was you heard
Someone told you just exactly what to say
And you know, you know thats only one set
Of words
You got to play on love.
Ive heard people say it a thousand times
In a thousand different ways
Ive heard people play it a thousand times
And they know thats the only way to play
You been a reading it without living it
Now thats the golden prison we can always find
Living in stories and living in books or
We can live and leave all the stories behind.
Its up to you and its up to me
Come down yelling timber through the
Burning trees
Whos been telling you about perfection
And how did he get in here, thats the question.
He mustve
Played on love
Played on love
Played on love
Played on love.
Ive heard people say it a thousand times....
You got to
Play on love
Play on love
Play on love
Play on love.
Reading it without living it...
You got to
Play on love
Play on love
Play on love
Play on love.

New York Woman
It was getting dark in a snow-covered park,
I thought I saw you smiling.
You left town to marry a texas millionaire,
I wonder how you are doing.
You were a new york woman,
New york woman,
New york woman,
I love you.
I heard him on the air discussing world affairs,
And something about his global vision.
Thats when I wondered if you made the right decision,
I want to know what youre thinking.
You were a new york woman,
New york woman,
New york woman,
I miss you.
You were a new york woman,
New york woman,
New york woman,
I miss you.
I miss you,
I miss you,
I miss you,
I miss you, my friend.
I miss you,
Oh, I miss you,
Oh, I miss you,
Oh, I miss you.

A Rock n Roll Fantasy
Hello you, hello me, hello people we used to be
Isnt it strange, we never changed
Weve been through it all yet were still the same
And I know its a miracle, we still go, and for all we know
We might still have a way to go
Hello me, hello you, you say you want out
Want to start anew, throw in your hand
Break up the band, start a new life, be a new man
But for all we know, we might still have a way to go
Before you go, theres something you ought to know
Theres a guy in my block, he lives for rock
He plays records day and night
And when he feels down, he puts some rock n roll on
And it makes him feel alright
And when he feels the world is closing in
He turns his stereo way up high
He just spends his life, living in a rock n roll fantasy
He just spends his life, living on the edge of reality
He just spends his life, in a rock n roll fantasy
He just spends his life, living in a rock n roll fantasy
He just spends his life, living on the edge of reality
He just spends his life, in a rock n roll fantasy
He just spends his life, livingt in a rock n roll fantasy
Look at me, look at you
You say youve got nothing left to prove
The king is dead, rock is done
You might be through but Ive just begun
I dont know, I feel free and I wont let go
Before you go, theres something you ought to know
Dan is a fan and he lives for our music
Its the only thing that gets him by
Hes watched us grow and hes seen all our shows
Hes seen us low and hes seen us high
Oh, but you and me keep thinking
That the worlds just passing us by
Dont want to spend my life, living in a rock n roll fantasy
Dont want to spend my life living on the edge of reality
Dont want to waste my life, hiding away anymore
Dont want to spend my life, living in a rock n roll fantasy...

Vampires
Brother it dont matter
Sister dont worry
Say what you like
Ill do what you want me to do
Youre a vampire, Im a vampire, too
Sun in the kitchen
Boy youre still sleeping
When you get hungry
Ill do what you want me to do
Youre a vampire, Im a vampire, too
Youre a vampire, Im a vampire, too
Night in the city
New orleans pretty
Do what you want
And then can I do it to you
Youre a vampire, Im a vampire, too
Youre a vampire, Im a vampire, too
Youre a vampire, Im a vampire, too
Youre a vampire, Im a vampire, too
Its a reflex
Just a reflex
Like fear or sex
Brother it dont matter
Sister dont worry
Say what you like
Ill do what you want me to do
Youre a vampire, Im a vampire, too
Youre a vampire, Im a vampire, too
Brother it dont matter
Sister dont worry
Brother it dont matter
Sister dont worry
Brother it dont matter
Sister dont worry
Brother it dont matter
Sister dont worry

Dad and Me
Inside our house you'll find crannies and nooks.
Crevices and cracks and fissures and books!
Books under the bed and on the floor,
Books around the table and beside the door,
Books on the bookshelf and surrounding it,
Books all over the house, every single bit!
Not a one of these books are non-fiction,
Different worlds are their depiction.
Fictional, sci-fi, dark and fantasy,
Horror and happy, more books for me!
Books belonging to my father,
Or belonging to me as I rather.
My father and I in bookworm heaven,
Until mum cleans up around half past seven.
She throws the books in a huff,
Says it's a mess and to clean it up!
Well dad and I try to clean,
But on the work we quickly wean
And in one of the larger nooks
You'll find dad and me reading our books.

Fortunately, I was supposed to look confused and disoriented because, God, I felt that way.
To study the phenomena of disease without books is to sail an uncharted sea, while to study books without patients is not to go to sea at all.

The Girl From New York City
She came out with her best friend for the summer in l. a.
They took a spot and plopped down on the beach
You find them there near every day
And I said
California guys all cant peel their eyes
From that girl from new york city
And l. a. boys all heard the noise
About that girl from new york city
Well turn em on with all the things that will be happening night and day
Well show them such a groovy time that theyll both be decidin to stay
And let me say
California guys all cant peel their eyes
From that girl from new york city
And l. a. boys all heard the noise
About that girl from new york city
California guys all cant peel their eyes
From that girl from new york city
And l. a. boys all heard the noise
About that girl from new york city

I did not support any more New York. I lived 10 years there, and after September 11, I felt very European. I did not share the opinion of people in the street, who were deeply influenced by what they heard in the media.

I'm living every ten-year-old boy's fantasy. The other day, Chris and I had this big scene where we had to pull out our guns, and I was thinking, 'Here we are in New York City - a place where every actor wants to be - and we are literally playing cops and robbers. How great is that?'
