Before my troops reached the little city, and before the people of Fredericksburg knew that any part of the Confederate army was near, there was great excitement over the demand for surrender.

What a big joke
What a big joke
the new defence force has become,
where three thousand soldiers
strike and run riot
and it’s people
who chooses to be soldiers.
If Jan Smuts ruled
they would have been dead
as he let them
load a gun
for Jopie Fourie
and to me it’s nothing less
than revolt
for which people in the past
could pay the ultimate penalty.
I almost laughed myself apart
when medical troops
where brought to justice
for whoring
and I wondered
what was now happening
at the once great 1 Mil?
What kind of army has no discipline
and in what defence force
troops and junior officers
tell generals
how to do their thing
and the President
is challenged
to take instructions?
In my time you where bound by law
to go without any choice
to the defence force
and if you did not go there,
the military police
quickly came to fetch you
at home.
In my defence force
nonsense was taken out of you
from the start
and the authority of higher ranks was supreme
and we exercised with a pole and tyre
and received
the best training there.
.
For two years we
had to do national service
against a pauper’s pay
and it felt at a time
as if the camps
would never end.
a Soldier pointed his finger
at a lieutenant
and received thirty days
in the detention barracks
for it.
It was a defence force
that showed its fist
to Swapo, Fapla,
the Cubans and Russians
and the best soldiers
knew their duty.
Against what foe
will this new army be able to stand
if there’s no discipline
and like in a asylum people run amok
and I wonder
what omen
is hitting the new South Africa
where patriotism
lies at the backdoor
and every soldier thinks
that he’s a general
and like all things
in this once great country,
this army is more than pathetic
against what it once was.

where are your powers Babylon?
Illustrious Babylon
where are your powers now?
city of fame
city of gold and silver
city of a famous name
where are your powers now?
city of wonders
empire of sin
Babylon
city of ruins
mighty Babylon
city of prowess
empire of old
empire of supremacy
rich with stolen gold
where are you now?
city of the hanging gardens
city holding the righteous captive
where are your powers Babylon?
city of desolate wastes
ferocious Babylon
look out over the valley
Cyrus the great of Persia
with his army of men
and Darius the Mede
with his army of men
diverting the great river Euphrates
and sneaking under your walls
your 'impenetrible walls
Babylon
city of ruins
Where are your powers
King Nebuchadnezzar?
your colossal gate is open
your subjects are drunk
drunk with wine and blood
unaware of approaching destruction
living their normal course of life
where are you now Babylon?
heaped in ruin and desolation
...forever
now just a dry desert plain
and the wind goes...hush...

Whisper all your inhibitions

The End Of The Ming
Out in the hinterland the wild wolves call
While the soldiers shiver, strung along The Great Wall,
Their hands on their quivers, with their arrows, full flight
As they listen for the Manchu troops in the night.
They would beat off the peasants at the Shanhai Pass
As The Wall held firm, for the Ming's last gasp,
But the rebels beat the army of the last of the Ming,
In the city of the Emperor, the Old Beijing.
And they fired the city under Li Zicheng
While the Emperor despaired, he was called Chongzhen,
He threw a final feast for the House of the Ming,
And he called for his daughter, the Lady Chang Ping.
When the feast was over they awaited his word
But he slew each one with the point of his sword,
And his daughter too, bowed down to his will,
Then he fled the palace grounds, to Jingshan Hill.
And there with a rope on a myrtle tree
Chongzhen hung himself as high as could be,
While the leader of the peasants, this Li Zicheng,
Tried to found the Shun, as he buried Chongzhen.
But a General of the Ming, one Wu Sangui
He opened up the gates of The Wall one day,
And the Manchu troops streamed through to Beijing
Where they finished off the army, and Li Zicheng.
It was written in the stars, shining down on The Wall
That a dynasty rises as a dynasty falls,
But the soldiers on The Wall, now finished with the Ming,
Still keep a steady watch for the House of Qing.
For out in the hinterland the wild wolves call
And a soldier's duty is to guard The Great Wall,
For it little matters here about the Emperor's plan,
Just the wives and children of the soldiers of the Han!

Right in Front of the Army
"Where 'ave you been this week or more,
'Aven't seen you about the war'?
Thought perhaps you was at the rear
Guarding the waggons." "What, us? No fear!
Where have we been? Why, bless my heart,
Where have we been since the bloomin' start?
Right in the front of the army,
Battling day and night!
Right in the front of the army
Teaching 'em how to fight!"
Every separate man you see,
Sapper, gunner, and C.I.V.,
Every one of 'em seems to be
Right in front of the army!
Most of the troops to the camp had gone,
When we met with a cow-gun toiling on;
And we said to the boys, as they walked her past,
"Well, thank goodness, you're here at last!"
"Here at last! Why, what d'yer mean?
Ain't we just where we've always been?
Right in the front of the army,
Battling day and night!
Right in the front of the army,
Teaching'em bow to fight!"
Correspondents and Vets in force,
Mounted foot and dismounted horse,
All of them were, as a matter of course,
Right in the front of the army.
Old Lord Roberts will have to mind
If ever the enemy get behind;
For they'll smash him up with a rear attack,
Because his army has got no back!
Think of the horrors that might befall
An army without any rear at all!
Right in the front of the army,
Battling day and night!
Right in the front of the army,
Teaching 'em how to fight!
Swede attaches and German counts,
Yeomen (known as De Wet's Remounts),
All of them were, by their own accounts,
Right in the front of the army!

My Army, O, My Army!
My Army, O, my army! The time I dreamed of comes!
I want to see your colours; I want to hear your drums!
I heard them in my boyhood when all men’s hearts seemed cold;
I heard them as a Young Man—and I am growing old!
My army, O, my army! The signs are manifold!
My army, O, my army! My army and my Queen!
I used to sing your battle-songs when I was seventeen!
They came to me from ages, they came from far and near;
They came to me from Paris, they came to me from Here!—
They came when I was marching with the Army of the Rear.
My Queen’s dark eyes were flashing (oh, she was younger then!);
My Queen’s Red Cap was redder than the reddest blood of men!
My Queen marched like an Amazon, with anger manifest—
Her dark hair darkly matted from a knifegash in her breast
(For blood will flow where milk will not—her sisters knew the rest).
My legions ne’er were listed, they had no need to be;
My army ne’er was trained in arms—’twas trained in misery!
It took long years to mould it, but war could never drown
The shuffling of my army’s feet in the hunger-haunted town—
A little child was murdered, and so Tyranny went down.
My army kept no order, my army kept no time;
My army dug no trenches, yet died in dust and slime;
Its troops were fiercely ignorant, as to the manner born;
Its clothes were rags and tatters, or patches worn and torn—
Ah, me! It wore a uniform that I have often worn!
The faces of my army were ghastly as the dead;
My army’s cause was Hunger, my army’s cry was “Bread!”
It called on God and Mary and Christ of Nazareth;
It cried to kings and courtesans that fainted at its breath—
Its women beat their poor, flat breasts where babes had starved to death.
My army! My army—I hear the sound of drums
Above the roar of battles—and, lo! my army comes!
Nor creed of man may stay it—nor war, nor nation’s law—
The pikes go through the firing-lines as pitchforks go through straw—
Like pitchforks through the litter, while empires stand in awe.

Face or Surrender
'Face the annihilation or surrender' warning was issued
Leaflets were dropped from air and situation constantly reviewed
All commanders were keenly watching the development
It was hectic day for army and its heavy deployment
It was never a 'do or die situation' for peaceful country
India faced international pressure along with refugees
They were in millions and daily crossing the border
There stream could not be stopped by an order
It was genuine and humanitarian issue
It needed kind consideration and humanly viewed
Many suffered army brutality and right's violation
It was new beginning for serious relation
'Bangladesh' was emerging and coming into reality
The population was uprising and showing presence with quality
They had suffered suppression along with economic inequality
Now time had come to prove their worth and capability
As army advanced to main headquarters with clear instructions
Wide spread losses were reported with heavy destruction
The soldiers were committing atrocities and public was on run
They were still hesitating to lay downs the guns
'You may be treated with honor and international norms'
The instructions along with guidelines were dropped in forms
Large number of troops were still in dilemma and refused
As large scale uncertainty prevailed along with confusion
The defeated army surrendered with the only hope
That they may be treated well and not hung with rope
Never in history of army had manual if such kind of situation developed
Where troops were taken to safety with full honor and welcomed
This is not simple remedy that was taken on hand
Where enemy troops were treated with norms as friends
Not only their safe return was assured but nicely ended
The humiliation and reprisal was never intended
Whether war or no war humanity must be respected
He may be son, husband, or father of someone and hence acted
He had compulsion to be in service for support of family
After war nobody is friend, foe or real enemy

The Capture of Havana
'Twas in the year 1762 that France and Spain
Resolved, allied together, to crush Britain;
But the British Army sailed from England in May,
And arrived off Havana without any delay.
And the British Army resolved to operate on land,
And the appearance of the British troops were really grand;
And by the Earl of Albemarle the British troops were commanded,
All eager for to fight as soon as they were landed.
Arduous and trying was the work the British had to do,
Yet with a hearty goodwill they to it flew;
While the tropical sun on them blazed down,
But the poor soldiers wrought hard and didn't frown.
The bombardment was opened on the 30th of June,
And from the British battleships a fierce cannonade did boom;
And continued from six in the morning till two o'clock in the afternoon,
And with grief the French and Spaniards sullenly did gloom.
And by the 26th of July the guns of Fort Moro were destroyed,
And the French and Spaniards were greatly annoyed;
Because the British troops entered the Fort without dismay,
And drove them from it at the bayonet charge without delay.
But for the safety of the city the Governor organised a night attack,
Thinking to repulse the British and drive them back;
And with fifteen hundred militia he did the British attack,
But the British trench guards soon drove them back.
Then the Spandiards were charged and driven down the hill,
At the point of the bayonet sore against their will;
And they rushed to their boats, the only refuge they could find,
Leaving a trail of dead and wounded behind.
Then Lieutenant Forbes, at the head of his men,
Swept round the ramparts driving all before them;
And with levelled bayonets they drove them to and fro,
Then the British flag was hoisted over the bastions of Moro.
Then the Governor of the castle fell fighting sword in hand,
While rallying his men around the flagstaff the scene was grand;
And the Spaniards fought hard to save their ships of war,
But the British destroyed their ships and scattered them afar.
And every man in the Moro Fort was bayonet or shot,
Which in Spanish history will never be forgot;
And on the 10th of August Lord Albemarle sent a flag of truce,
And summoned the Governor to surrender, but he seemed to refuse.
Then from the batteries the British opened a terrific fire,
And the Spaniards from their guns were forced to retire,
Because no longer could they the city defend;
Then the firing ceased and hostilities were at an end.
Then the city of Havana surrendered unconditionally,
And terms were settled, and the harbour, forts, and city,
With a district of one hundred miles to the westward,
And loads of gold and silver were the British troops' reward.
And all other valuable property was brought to London,
The spoils that the British Army had won;
And it was conveyed in grand procession to the Tower of London,
And the Londoners applauded the British for the honours they had won.

Peron's Latest Flame
Che: At the watering holes
Of the well to do
I detect a resistance to
English: Precisely
Che: Our heroine's style
English: We're glad you noticed
Che: The shooting sticks
Of the upper class
English: Give her an inch
Che: Aren't supporting a single ass
That would rise for the girl
English: She'll take a mile
Such a shame she wandered
Into our enclosure
How unfortunate this person
Has forced us to be blunt
No we wouldn't mind
Seeing her at Harrod's
But behind the jewelry counter
Not in front
Che: Could there be
In our fighting corps
A lack of enthusiasm for
Troops: Exactly
Che: Peron's latest flame
Troops: You said it brother
Che: Should you wish
To cause great distress
In the tidiest officer's mess
Just mention her name
Troops: That isn't funny
Peron is a fool
Breaking every taboo
Installing the girl in the Army H.Q.
And she's an actress the last straw
Her only good parts are between her thighs
She should stare at the ceiling not reach for the skies
Or she could be his last whore
The evidence suggests
She has other interests
If it's her who's using him
He's exceptionally dim
Bitch
Dangerous jade
English: We have allowed ourselves to slip
We have completely lost our grip
We have declined to an all time low
Tarts have become the set to know
Eva: I am only a radio star with just one weekly show
But speaking as one of the people I want you to know
We are tired of the decline of Argentina with no sign of
A government able to give us the things we deserve
Troops: It's no crime for officers to do as they please
As long as they're discreet and keep clear of disease
We ignore we disregard
But once they allow a bit on the side
To move to the center where she's not qualified
We are forced to mark his card
She should get into her head
She should not get out of bed
She should know that she's not paid
To be loud but to be laid
Slut
Dangerous jade
Che: This has really been your year Miss Duarte
Tell us where you go from here Miss Duarte
Which are the roles that you yearn to play
Whom did you sleep-dine with yesterday
Eva: Acting is limiting the lines not mine
That's no help to the Argentine
Che: Can we assume then that you'll quit
Is this because of your involvement with Colonel Peron
Guards: Goodnight and thank you
Troops: She won't be kept happy by her nights on the tiles
She says it's his money but she's after his files
So get back onto the street
She should get into her head
She should not get out of bed
She should know that she's not paid
To be loud but to be laid
The evidence suggests
She has other interests
If it's her who's using him
He's exceptionally dim
English: Things have reached a pretty pass
When someone pretty lower class
Graceless and vulgar uninspired
Can be accepted and admired

I Surrender
I surrender to your heart babe
Do anything that you want me to do
Please be tender Im in your hands girl
This is a feeling I never knew
You know I tried to make it on my own
Thats not the way it was meant to be
Spend my time waiting by the phone
Oh darling come back to me
I surrender, I surrender
Im giving up the role of pretender
Oh be tender, girl be tender
Cant you feel the love that I send you
I surrender.
I remember, seems like a lifetime
Cant believe its a matter of days
Since you left Im near to heartbreak
I want you so bad dont turn away
What does it take to stay by my side
You know Ill do what you want me to
Dont take away this feeling inside
Im still in love with you
I surrender, I surrender
Im giving up the role of pretender
Oh be tender, girl be tender
Cant you feel the love that I send you
I surrender.
I surrender, I surrender
Darling now wont you be tender
Surrender, oh surrender
Feel the love that I send you
I surrender.

State Of The Union (In Closing)
we, the working people
of America, demand our dignity!
we demand equality, and fairness!
we are all immigrants here!
yet no human being is illegal.
we demand the right to work,
and to educate our children.
we demand shelter, and healthcare!
we are a hard working, hard fighting
people... we demand a
hard working, hard fighting President!
we know that you are limited
by the hand of the controlling elite,
at the mercy of the corporate machine.
dont be just a figurehead.
your choice!
freedom is a work in progress.
the real revolution is in
the human heart, in the mind.
we are ready for change,
and willing to act.
be ready, and willing!
there are no small people,
we are all people.
we will not be owned!
we cannot go back to the
bigoted, ignorant ways of the past.
you are our best option,
be the man!
most of all, we demand the action
that follows words well spoken.
be the action!

Uncle Lemon's Revenge
Most of the county had not a clue
With Uncle Lemon, just what to do?
This rascal most notorious
Over the sheriff always seemed to be victorious.
Selling the best illegal Prohibtion whiskey,
No matter how risky.
Chicago gangsters in the Great Depression
Had even failed to stop his competing 'liquid profession'.
With World War II raging,
Uncle Lemon's vaunted talents with local ladies grew more engaging.
With most younger men away at war,
Uncle Lemon's middle-aged charms took him too far.
His Saturday night dance hall fights
Reached new heights.
Then, the local draft board
Reached a convenient unanimous accord.
Even though Uncle Lemon was too old,
They would draft him into the army to be controlled.
He would be away till the war ended,
Which the local sheriff thought most splendid!
Or, luckily die in an attack,
And never come back!
Uncle Lemon was soon drafted
After this plan was crafted.
But to their dismay,
He was not sent far away.
Placed in charge of a nearby army post motor pool,
He was soon back every weekend with an army car and lots of 'fuel'!
The army tried to discharge him for being too old.
He rejected this plan as his new patriotic life he extolled.
For the rest of the war much of the county he continued to incense -
And all at government expense!

The Big City Type
I woke up in a big city apartment
Rode to a big city job
On a big city subway
With hip, big city people
Worked at a big city job
In a big city skyscraper
Stood in a big city line
For lunch, heard big city jazz
On a big city radio station
It was like a big city scene
In a big budget movie
When I realized I had become
The big city type
I always wanted to be
Yet I was still me

another War?
Another War?
The young prime minister is declaring war he looks righteous and
proud, his historical moment....We fight for the Libyan people,
but something disturbs me, the braying for one man’s blood.
The excitement of going to war, this lust for action sits deep in our
mind, jingoism brings its own political reward.
A just war? The man Kaddafi is an odious bully and oil supply must
be secured. But is it not also a selective war? People are being killed
in Yemen, an oil poor country; why not declaring war against their
repellent autocrat?
For now the Israeli are busy building settlements on occupied land,
they know a democratic Middle East will shift the balance of power,
a united Arab world will demand it. So let the war commence, but
I regret our leaders look of, almost, sexual excitement when issuing
orders kill the enemy.

The Surrender
Don't label me a monster
I'm a monster just like you
Don't label me a victim
Cause I'm a victim just like you
I'm a victim just like you
When your heart aches
You can know that mine aches too
And when you run away
I run away like you
I run away like you, I do
But you know theres a part of me that will always let you down
And you know theres a part of me that will always make you cry
And you know theres a part of me that just wont let you die
Inside cause I surrender
I surrender into you, I do
Keep surrendering to you, I do, I do
I surrender just for you, for yes

Surrender To Me
I know it never came easy
Girl, you drive me out of my mind
Your fine and still kind of sleazy
Now I want to make you mine
Somehow, I dont believe you
I really need you now
You know youre so good at teasing
Maybe thats what I like
Sometimes youre hot when youre freezing
Dont want to let you out of my sight
Somehow, I dont believe you
I really need you
I dont believe you
And I really need you
(hey) you never believe what I say
Youre gonna surrender someday
Surrender to me
Surrender to me
Surrender to me all the way
Surrender to me all the way (yeah, yeah)
Surrender to me
Youve got an attitude
A hardheaded woman that I cant refuse
Your love is kind of rude
You love me like you got nothing to lose
Somehow, I dont believe you
I really need you
I dont believe you
And I really need you
(hey) you never believe what I say
Youre gonna surrender someday
Surrender to me
Surrender to me
Surrender to me all the way
Surrender to me all the way (yeah, yeah)
Surrender to me
All the way
All the way
All the way
All the way
Surrender to me all the way
Surrender to me
Surrender

Suffocation
Suffocation
The smoke of unknown origin
By fast but slow speed
Rampageously traversed
Across the heart of the city
Diffused people’s mouth, nose and throat
Straight into the lungs
Forced to surrender
Agonistic
In order to resist
The irresistible
Smoke and noise
The heart of the city
Abandoned in the restlessly
Polluted
Tumor of smell and noise
Pus
Metrorrhagia
Sinking the city
Migrate the people
Collapsed the sky
The black teardrops
Down along the wall

Announcement
Announcement 1 (track 1)
"It has been rumored that a new People's Army has been formed by a certain
'Commander Black'. A few minor incidents have already been reported, and further
unconfirmed reports suggest that this is a definite attempt to overthrow the
present government which is led by Mr. Flash.
"We would like to stress that these are only unconfirmed rumors, but we will
of course bring you up-to-date news and information on these reports as they
come in. Meanwhile we do urge the population not to panic and to remain calm
during the crisis."
Please stay tuned to this station for further bulletins.
Announcement 2 (track 5)
Announcer 1: "In just a few moments, Mr. Black is due to address the people.
We are now going over to live coverage of his speech."
Announcer 2: "Well the scenes here are absolutely indescribable. I've personally
never seen anything like it before. A crowd of around, what, thirty-thousand people
have been waiting all day for the arrival of Mr. Black and his entourage. And it is
expected that one of the main topics of his speech this evening will be the controversial
Anti-(something) Corruption Bill, which Mr. Black wants brought into effect immediately
to put an end to the current widespread decline in public moral standards.
"And, just a minute, there he is. I can see Mr. Black now. He's surrounded by, of
course, all his bodyguards. (something) the crowd is growing wild with excitement --
it's clapping, it's cheering -- as Mr. Black finally makes his way on that far side
onto the platform. And now -- yes, there he is -- he's about to speak.
Announcement 3 (track 11)
"News has just reached us of a major victory for Mr. Black and the People's Army.
The battle took place on the outskirts of a small village somewhere in the Northern
Zone. Casualties on both sides are reported to have been very high, indeed. And
our on-the-spot correspondent describes the fighting as some of the fiercest in
living memory. No quarter has been shown on either side."
Announcement 4 (track 17)
"At Six A.M. this morning the victorious People's Army overthrew the corrupt regime
that has been ruling over our country. It is reported that Mr. Flash and his
gang were all been taken prisoner. They have been taken to a secret hideout where
they will be tried for treason by a People's Court."
Announcement 5 (track 20)
"A state of emergency was declared by the government at Eight A.M. today. It was
stated that this step has been taken in the interest of national security. And the
emergency measures set out in today's announcement will remain in force for an
indefinite period.
"Curfew will take effect as from this evening, and will operate between Nine P.M. and
Six A.M. each day. The curfew will be enforce by patrols from the People's Army,
and severe penalties are to be imposed on anyone found on the streets during the
daily curfew period.
"Food rationing is to be introduced immediately, and shops will only be allowed to
open for a period of three hours each day. Restrictions on the use of petrol start
immediately. Restrictions on the use of electricity, gas and water will also be
announced shortly.
"All places of public entertainment will be closed until further notice. All
television channels are now closed down, and radio broadcasts will operate on this
channel only.
"And now, here is the People's Choir singing the new nation anthem, which led our
victorious troops into battle!
