I started hustling at 12, my mother hustled ahead of me. I was only allowed to because they knew me.

I'm not an artist, I'm a hustler. As a hustler I've done many things. You should really believe it when I tell you that, 'cause I'm not being sarcastic. I'm a total hustler. What that means is I've hustled to make a buck and I've hustled to change the world and I've hustled to take revenge - but it's always hustling. I've never had a career or a single goal. I've never been formally educated. To get things together, to make a living, I constantly have to hustle.

Go Ahead On
(madeline bell / dusty springfield)
If youre gonna break my heart
Go ahead on
Guess you think youre kinda smart
Go ahead on
(well youve got another girl)
And youre having fun
(got her head in a whirl)
See what youve done
Go ahead on
(go ahead on)
I said go ahead on
(go ahead on)
You never call me on the phone
Make me so sad
Sittin all alone
Feelin bad
(tired of being your fool)
cause you told me lies
(I cant take no more)
Of no alibi
Go ahead on
(go ahead on)
Go ahead on
(go ahead on)
For a little while
We had a good thing goin
Everything was peaches and cream
But the devil in you started showin
Do you understand now
What I mean?
You put me down
Every night
If you wanna be a clown
Thats all right
(when its all too late)
Then youll see
(shes done the same to you)
Like you did it to me
Go ahead on
(go ahead on)
Go ahead on
(go ahead on)
You put me down
Every night
If you wanna be a clown
Thats all right
(when its all too late)
Baby youll see
(shes done the same to you)
Like you did it to me
Go ahead on
(go ahead on)
Go ahead on
(go ahead on)
Git, git, git
(go ahead on)
Go ahead on
(go ahead on)
Youd better pack your bag
(go ahead on)
Go ahead on
(go ahead on)
Bye, bye, bye
(go ahead on)
Go ahead on

A Story Of Survival
his mother wore white
he was young and compliant
she took him to the river
tied his hands with a blanket
as he woke up from sleep
and then she threw him there
what his mother did not know
was that he already
knew how to swim
and the depth and rage of the river
are no threat to him
his mother did not smile
she meant death
it was over
he knew how to get out from the
tie of the white blanket
he escaped and swam
to the other side of the river
climbed the mountain
and then to the eyes of his mother
he was gone
he started life all over again
with another name.

Looking back on those games, I probably hustled out of position as much as I hustled into position since I really never had any real training. I was working on instincts alone.
Better Days
Ooh Child things are going to get easier
Ooh Child things it's get brighter
Better Days [x 4]
Keep your head up
Better Days [x 4]
Keep your head up
She grew up in Brooklyn the Eastside and fulton street
Never knew father
He got shot hustling
She stated acting much older
Her mother couldn't control her
Losing direction
Started sex'n-no protection
And now she's expecting
A life she wasn't ready for
She*s feeling rejected
And her futures unsure
And if you want
Run out there on your own
Don*t give up sunshine
There will be better days
(Keep your head up)
Gotta keep movin' on
To raise a child alone
Don*t give up sunshine
There will be better days
(Keep your head up)
Are you down with full time
On weekend stripping
So you met baller

The Birds Do Not Stopover Now
The birds do not stopover now;
The desolate tree of my yard,
Gazes at the ways since long.
There had been the days, when
My house hustled and bustled too,
All the younger and the older,
Were busy in the worldly doings,
Now the same fondness,
The same taunting,
Of the affectionate parents,
Appear a distant dream!
When my brothers,
Tempt me to the alien lands,
A shriek of helplessness,
Arises in my breast.
Ah! I fetch back wherefrom,
Those spent, depleted moments,
In which felt I the true savour of life.
Who knows when will return,
The same hustling bustle of my house,
When the morn and eve will echo,
With the melody of olden delightful songs.

When Love Starts Talkin
I thought I had my life worked out
I thought I knew what it was all about
Then love started talkin
Your love started talkin
I had my mind on the open road
I thought I knew where I wanted to go
Then love started talkin
Your love started talkin
(chorus)
When love starts talkin
You got no choice
But to shut up and listen
Its a powerful voice
Open the door
And let it walk in
Thats what you gotta do
When love starts talkin
I thought I had it wrapped up neat and nice
I didnt need nobodys advice
Then love started talkin
Your love started talkin
(repeat chorus)
I thought I heard it all before
I thought I didnt need to hear no more
Then love started talkin
Your love started talkin
Your love started talkin
Your love started talkin
Your love started talkin
Love started talkin

In The Puddles
Rain bashing, rain crashing,
In the puddles, children splashing,
Mother's tongue has started lashing,
Everyone is wet!
Rain slopping, rain stopping,
In the puddles, children hopping,
Mother's hands have started mopping,
Everyone, I bet!
Sun waking, sun breaking,
In the puddles, children quaking,
Mother's arms have started shaking,
Everyone, she'll net!
Sun applying, sun drying,
In the puddles, children crying,
Mother's breath is now a sighing,
Everyone's upset!
Sun gleaming, sun scheming,
In the puddles, children steaming!
Mother's smile, now is beaming,
Everyone's her pet!

In the ward
In the ward she was made to draw
A woman,
She complied
Started to draw a face
The eyes and ears
But without a mouth
Two legs
Without the hands,
The shrink says,
Was this woman
In your house
Not allowed to speak
Was she not allowed
To do?
Her mother
Wants to understand
The husband was
Not there.
In the house
She cannot speak
She did not do
Anything about it
Until she became so
Incomplete
And she did not
Know until she
Was made to draw
The woman’s
True face.

Like Another Mother
The way you are with me
The way I am with you
You're like another mother
We may not see everyday
We may not talk everyday
But your still like another mother
The way you're there
The way you care
Your like another mother
It may have started with a prayer
It may have started with a say-er
But your like another mother

I Should Be Allowed To Think
I saw the best minds of my generation
Destroyed by madness, starving, hysterical
I should be allowed to glue my poster
I should be allowed to think
I should be allowed to glue my poster
I should be allowed to think
I should be allowed to think
I should be allowed to think
And I should be allowed to blurt the merest idea
If by random whim, one occurs to me
If necessary, leave paper stains on the grey utility pole
I saw the worst bands of my generation
Applied by magic marker to dry wall
I should be allowed to shoot my mouth off
I should have a call in show
I should be allowed to glue my poster
I should be allowed to think
I should be allowed to think
I should be allowed to think
And I should be allowed to blurt the merest idea
If by random whim, one occurs to me
If necessary, leave paper stains on the grey utility pole
I am not allowed
To ever come up with a single original thought
I am not allowed
To meet the criminal government agent who oppresses me
I was the worst hope of my generation
Destroyed by madness, starving, hysterical
I should be allowed to share my feelings
I should be allowed to feel
I should be allowed to glue my poster
I should be allowed to think
I should be allowed to think
I should be allowed to think
And I should be allowed to blurt the merest idea
If by random whim one occurs to me
But sadly, this can never be
I am not allowed to think
I am not allowed to think
I am not allowed to think (I am not allowed to think)
I am not allowed to think (I am not allowed to think)
I am not allowed to think (I am not allowed to think)
I am not allowed to think (I am not allowed to think)

Teenage Love
two teenagers so in love.
their hearts beating in
unison, one with the other.
and would not listen to their father or mother.
they felt that their love would conquer all.
and tear down any wall.
it did not matter what anyone
would say, and their minds they could not sway.
they had repeatedly heard that ' love could be blind'
but their love was one of a kind.
now in school they taught the golden rule
but to her ' she was no fool'.
she knew what could lie ahead
and that she could not sit back
or lie in bed.
so determined for their love to succeed
that they pushed themselves to get a degree
they both studied day and night
and would not give up this relentless fight.
three years later they had acheived their goal
and from then life started to unfold.
he became a doctor, and she a teacher
and now, no one could reach her.
a year later a child came
and they knew that life would never be the same.
but she proved that teenage love can survive
if you just give it a try.
and if you was to ask them, if they
would do it again.
their reply would be ' you betcha friend'.

Starting Again
Music: Barry Manilow
Lyrics: Marty Panzer
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And it started again And I meant every word
And I liked what I said
And I liked what I heard
And I started to think
I could think about starting again
We were laughing again
Over memories and wine
And the years in between
Didn't seem a long time
When I smiled she knew why
In a while it was starting again
And I started to think I could feel again
All the bad times seemed unreal
When I looked in her eyes
The cheating, the lies,
The things that were wrong seemed far behind
And I started to think I could care again
And my fears all disappeared
When she called me by name
I knew that she'd changed
The flaws were all gone
The Saint remained
But it started again when I asked her to stay
And she said, "There's this friend who's in town just today"
And she really felt bad, but she had to be leaving again
And she left me again as she'd left me before
Still pretending she cared when we kissed at the door
But I saw in her eyes that the lies were all starting again
Just when I started to feel again
When all the bad times seemed unreal
When it all seemed so right and I thought that tonight
If she said she cared, she really might
Just when my fears disappeared again
And I heard what I wanted to hear
It all started again
And I knew what that meant
It wasn't the start
It was really the end

Am I Allowed
Am I allowed
To wish not to breathe?
Am I allowed
To skip over tomorrow?
And,
Am I allowed
Not to believe,
Who it is that speaks.
Or,
Whom everybody follows?
Am I allowed
To want my own needs?
Am I allowed
Not to beg or borrow.
Am I allowed
Not to be deceived,
By who those that I know
Are low, lazy and shallow?
Am I allowed
My own company?
Am I allowed
To float or row my boat?
And,
Am I allowed
To see what I see,
Who it is that show
Not which way to go?
Am I allowed
To want my own needs?
Am I allowed
Not to beg or borrow.
Am I allowed
Not to be deceived,
By who those that I know
Are low, lazy and shallow?
Am I allowed
My own company?
Am I allowed
To float or row my boat?
And,
Am I allowed
To see what I see,
Who it is that show
Not which way to go?
Am I allowed
To wish not to breathe?
Am I allowed
To skip over tomorrow?

I Took You Home
I looked at your face somehow I knew
Nothing could tear me away
You started to smile and I was lost
Fumbling for something to say
I took you home, you took me in
I knew Id never be the same again
Baby, isnt it funny how it started
Well you know
The windows were frosty and grey
But we didnt notice the cold
Wrapped in the warmth of your body
Hoping this dream would never go
I took you home, you took me in
I knew Id never be the same again
Baby, isnt it funny how it started
Well you know
Your folks were sleeping soundly upstairs
We couldnt really turn on the light
So I stumbled and we fell in the dark
I could have died
Its crazy to remember all the reasoning
I wonder if the memory will ever fade away
I looked at your father and I smiled
He said it was time for me to go
Stumbling out into the morning
Hoping my feelings didnt show
I took you home, you took me in
I knew Id never be the same again
Baby, isnt it funny how it started
Well you know

Mother In Law
(a. toussaint)
Mother in law, mother in law
Mother in law, mother in law
The worst person I know
Mother in law, mother in law
She worries me so
Mother in law, mother in law
If she leaves us alone
We could have a happy home
Sent from down below
Mother in law, mother in law
Mother in law, mother in law
Satan should be her name
Mother in law, mother in law
To me theyre about the same
Mother in law, mother in law
Everytime I open my mouth
Steps in trying to put me out
How could you stood so low
Mother in law, mother in law
Mother in law, mother in law
Come home with my pay
Mother in law, mother in law
She asks me what I made
Mother in law, mother in law
She thinks her advice is a contribution
If she would leave that would be the solution
Dont come back no more
Mother in law, mother in law
Mother in law, mother in law....

Cuts
She cuts her wrist,
Watch the blood drip,
She rip she soul out,
She cries at night,
There is no light shinning through her,
There is cuts everywhere,
Scars of remainder of her past,
Scars that won’t fade or wash away,
She brought this on herself,
She knew what she was doing,
She didn’t care to think that people cared for her,
She thought she was weak,
She tries not weep,
She never knew herself,
She never had the gaudiness of a mother,
She wanted a mother figure but never knew she would act out on the anger towards of a mother she never knew,
This girl is me.

A Tribute to Motherhood
I was going on a journey by train,
Outside it had started to rain.
My eyes rested on a mother and a child.
It is only possible to find
Such a look of tenderness on a mother’s face.
It was a moment filled with grace.
As the child looked up at her,
It instinctively knew it was her mother
And he can have complete trust
In her, that she will always put him first.
Compassionate, forgiving, tender and loving
At times firm, but forever giving.
God created mothers as he couldn’t be everywhere,
So each child could get his fair share
Of protection and love, when in need.
She not only feeds and reads
To him but by example leads.
And tries her best to sow the right seeds.
My mother is no more
She will never walk in through that door.
But where ever she is, she is blessing me
I know in my heart, she taught me how to be.
