I learned early on, having known the most handsome, successful, Gary Cooper, Clark Gable, Robert Taylor, don't ever spend too much time looking in the mirror.

A Mirror’s Just Clutter
When I looked at my mirror, what I did see
Was a wrinkled aged reflection of little old me
There’s one thing I’m sure of, there’s one thing I know
There’s no doubt about it, that mirror must go
A mirror’s just clutter, not needed at all
When it refuses to show me as handsome and tall
The appearance of wrinkles is very unkind
Particularly since they’re surely not mine
How deceitful that mirror when it belies
When all of reality it completely denies
There’s one thing I’m sure of, there’s one think I know
There’s no doubt about it, that mirror must go

I looked it at like this way. To get folks to like you, as a screen player I mean, I figured you had to sort of be their ideal. I don't mean a handsome knight riding a white horse, but a fella who answered the description of a right guy.

I hate a liar. Maybe because I'm such a good one myself, heh? Anyway, to find someone has told an out-and-out lie puts him on the other side of the fence from me for all time.

Mamma's Reflection
I dust my cloth
Across the glass
I cannot see her
But she's there
I know
Her pale eyes
Watch me from
The mirror:
Her only window
Now
From the mirror
She watches
From the mirror
She looks
In the mirror
Trapped where you
Cannot see
In the mirror
Prismed
Another me-
The ghost
That haunts
The ghost
That weeps

If my friend were a mirror
Tis a peculiar thing, having a friend,
Not knowing how it happens or how it starts,
If my friend where a mirror, could I apprehend,
Better all the ways in which it works?
Would I care for my mirror more or less?
Would I try to impress,
The mirror I want to spend all my time,
Or would I become vain,
And break what is not so easily fixed?
I love my mirror, betwixt
The bad days, and I embrace the good,
For If my friend where a mirror, would find I,
A most plain life, as a mirror would not tell any lie,
How, lucky am I to have a friend, who with whom, I do not have to try.
