One difference between poetry and lyrics is that lyrics sort of fade into the background. They fade on the page and live on the stage when set to music.

A Melodious song

Thy melody and my lyrics
will make a song
a melodious song
the song of enthusiasm
the song of peace
the song of fraternity

If my lyrics is a flower
thy melody is thee fragrance

If my lyrics is a ray
thy melody is thee light

If my lyrics is cloud
thy melody is thee lightning

my lyrics is a cascade
thy melody is thee sound

my lyrics and thee melody
is the consistency of profound nature
having multi seasons
to nourish all creature
to embellish the earth
whispering the gale
to blow like spring

my lyrics is nectar
thee melody is sweetness

my lyrics and thee melody
will make a song of heaven.

Year Zero

Be a hero
Kill your ego
It doesn't matter it's all just a pack of lies
Build a new base
Steal a new face
It doesn't matter it's all just to save you
We'll never fade away
We'll never fade away

I will stand by your ground
I will tear down myself
I won't fade

Year zero
Another hero
Is anybody alive here across the line?
Buy a new face
Start a new race
It doesn't matter it's all just to save your face
It's all just to save you
It's all just to save your face
It's all just to save you

We'll never fade away
We'll never fade away

I will stand by your ground
I will tear down myself
I will stand by your ground
I will tear down myself
I won't fade
I won't fade

We'll never fade away
We'll never fade away
We'll never fade away
We'll never fade away

We'll never fade away
We'll never fade away (We will never fade away)
We'll never fade away (We will never fade away)
We'll never fade away (We will never fade away)
We'll never fade away (We will never fade)
We'll never fade away (We will never fade away)
We'll never fade away (We will never fade)
We'll never fade away

Fade

I think Im walkin down your street
I sense a silent shuffle to my heartbeat
Why cry, Ill just fade
Fade you away
I watch your window from the street
I guess Ill etch a vision in my daydreams of you
Of you, of you, but you
Never thought Id be so proud-
But I will never live without you
Oh, oh, oh, oh, fade
Fade you away, I will fade, fade you away
I think Im walkin down your street...

Life is a bed of lyrics

Life is a bed of lyrics
So like an obsessive critic
I listen to any type of music
While it addresses its topic

When words flow in an orderly traffic
You can influence an entire public
Even if its structure is plain and basic
You can convince even the sceptics

When you speak in lyrics
The effect can be so drastic
Sometimes you apply technique
To produce some form of comic

Please don't panic
When I say 'Life is a bed of lyrics '
Even a poet’s style is rhythmic
With lyrics we can play the game of politics
Words can sooth or send you to a clinic
As we seek to manoeuvre great gimmicks

We're thinking about printing the lyrics with the next record so that people can find their own meaning in them. But then they would start having a life of their own, and I think the Portishead music should stay a whole in which the lyrics come second, actually.

The Dust

The Dust fade some things
can fade the people
But can't fade the people heart
can fade the days
but never fade the love

eveything can be fade
but the only the memories
can't be fade
the secrets can take us to the past
but never take us to the future
because the future is fade
till his time and his way
So come on let's take this fade
and try to see the future
because now is the time of the future

The Lyrics of MoonLight

The Sun is Majestic, holding sway
over land, seas, and skies
defining each Day
in Horizons of Bright Colours
a Peacock's Feathery Display

As the Heavens gather in the colors
and darken the sky
a choir of stars slowly appears
serenading the Sun's departure
with the Music of the Spheres

The Moon glides in
owning the night

Singing a Concert
to Lovers gleaming
under the reflected light

the Moon sings to these Hearts
dancing to the Rhythms
of the Moon's Tidal Force

The soft percussive tidal effects
ignite the emotions
upon which a soul reflects
empower the spirit
to discover its own course

The Lyrics of Moon Light
seen in the blush of a face
felt in the warmth of an embrace

The Lyrics of Moon Light
the voice to a soft caress
the joy of God's Loving Grace

The Lyrics of Moon Light
persist in the heart
as the Moon commands the night stage
a grand opening on Broadway, no
the gentle turn of a lover's diary page

You Are The Art Of My Life

You are the song I love to sing
The lyrics I owe to hymn
The bass that synchronizes my heart beat
The melody that fills my spirit

You are the poem I create
The rhyme I give in every end
The rhythm that makes a poetry
Just like a riddle so sweet and free

You are the vision I like to paint
The dazzling colors I try to blend
You are the art, no one can replace
The obra maestra that will never fade

Poetry Is Sexy

Poetry is sexy
Its lyrics aim to please

Poetry is sexy
Engaging in its tease

Poetry is sexy
It radiates with verb

Poetry is sexy
Every idyllic word

Poetry is sexy
Refined for purity

Poetry is sexy
Stripped of subtlety

Poetry is sexy
When read between the lines

Poetry is sexy
Laced with frilly rhymes

Poetry is sexy
Both singular and plural

Poetry is sexy
Every exclamatory swirl

Poetry is sexy
Grammatically raw

Poetry is sexy
Even typos and all

Poetry is sexy
Consummated publicly

Poetry is sexy
When performed properly

Poetry is sexy

Poetry is sexy
Fashioned any way you want

Fade Away

Caught between the dusk and dawn
I numb myself to death yet I'm awake
I'm running out of alcohol
I shouldn't feel a thing yet all I feel is hate
I realise as the night goes by this is not the first time
This maddening pain keeps me awake I need to fade away all I feel is hate
I wish that I'd just fade away, fade away, fade away
I can't cope with all this hate, all this hate, all this hate
I'm so tired still awake, still awake, still awake
Finally I fade away, fade away, fade away
I pour another drink coz I can still think
And won't stop aching 'til I'm out of my head
That ticking clock is killing me
I wish that I was dead it wouldn't be too bad
I hope you're fine and well, I say
I wouldn't want it any other way
So please tell me how do you feel
Now tell me how's the league, tell me how's the league
I can tell I fade away, fade away, fade away
I'm stuck here just like yesterday, yesterday, yesterday
I miss those jam and pancake days you would shower and I would bade
It feels like I just fade away, fade away, fade away, away
I wish that I'd just...

Beyond You

(music: marillion lyrics: steve hogarth & john helmer)
If you were a baby I would take you and run
I could hide you in the folds of my heart
Theres a truth in the madness that I cant get beyond
And a fever that wont leave me alone
I dont want my heart
Dont want my head
Dont want my friends
Dont want my bed
I cant live with myself
I cant live with myself
Cant take no help
I try to want you
But I cant get beyond you
I will stare from the window
At the shapes in the rain
As the space between us drives me insane
I cant live with myself
I cant live with myself
Cant take no help
I want no one else
If I was a child
I would reuse to leave
I would sit down on the street
Kick my legs and scream
Im not much of a man but I know how I am
I know this wont fade away
I will pretend and be strong
But I wonder where I belong
And the feeling comes in waves
A hole in my body.. aching
Like a heart dying
A soul crying
Exhausted and insecure
Took all you have and I still want more
And I reach out to hold you,
But all I do is hurt you,
Hurt you
I cant live with myself
I cant live with myself
Cant take no help
I try to want to
But I cant get beyond you
If I was a child
I would take you and run
And I say I dont know...
But I know
And I say Ill go, but I dont let go
You just spent the whole day
Driving away

What Now My Love

Music written by gilbert becaud (as et maintenant) with french lyrics by
P. delanoe. english lyrics by carl sigman.
What now, my love, now that youve left me
How can I live through another day
Watching my dreams turning to ashes
And my hopes into bits of clay
Once I could see, once I could feel
Now I am numb, Ive become unreal
I walk the night without a goal
Stripped of my heart, my soul
What now, my love, now that its over
I feel the world closing in on me
Here come the stars tumbling around me
Theres the sky where the sea should be
What now, my love, now that youve gone
Id be a fool to go on and on
No one would care, no one would cry
If I should live or die
What now, my love, now there is nothing
Only my last goodbye

Living Without Fade

bare
without care
as i run to my share

wings
without rings
as i fly over without means

i live without fade
for great is my faith
in me, unto him i await

her heart so divine
mine heart no design
mine works so precise

some saith, funny
to be dummy
but sweet to be honey

to a friend
mine without end
i trend
the life i spend

speak
without speech
is my wish
without bleach

lie
i tell not, why?
i see not so high
than the sky

leaves
fall and green the seeds
for us to meet the needs
and palm mine leaves

name i have
each thing a name
to identify that web
... catch and aim

nothing identifies
me than the identity
of life
...the love
and keen for life

i live without fade
if i do fade
i had long said
mine body shall fade
and shade
to rest but paid

There's Solace In Verse

A song's but a way of telling a story,
It can be about love even sadness or glory,
Whatever the lyrics you can guarantee,
By singing those words you can set yourself free.

While listening to music be it night or day,
The song takes you over you get carried away
Before you know it you are singing along,
You become that person, the singer of that song.

When you're writing the lyrics ensure they're kept terse,
For that's when you will find,
‘' There's Solace In Verse ''

That's the wonder of music regardless of type,
It makes you feel good you believe all the hype,
A song can lift you when you're feeling grief,
If you need cheering up it will bring you relief.

That's the wonder of music for like it or not,
It stirs up a feeling which just cannot be bought,
Next time you feel down if you just want to cry,
Put on some music go on give it a try.

Before you know it those thoughts will disperse,
Very soon you'll believe,
‘' There's Solace In Verse ''

So become a believer play your favourite song,
If you don't feel the vibes you can say I was wrong,
But that won't happen for I know that it's true,
When you play the right music it will happen to you.

From that special feeling you will not want to hide,
It will change your perspective; it can turn the tide,
Before you know it your life has unfurled,
You'll be back to your best, on top of the world.

In the lyrics and music you will soon immerse,
It's then you'll have learned,
‘‘ There's Solace In Verse ‘'

No Swimming Pool Or Tennis Court

A swimming pool and tennis court
for music, lyrics, Copeland thought
chez Brothers Gershwin, has to be
the way to go. I get no fee
for poetry, and have no mansion.
My home has much room for expansion,
and telling me my verse is gorgeous
won’t make my house as great as George’s.
In woods of Beverly this Gershon
is not like Hilly Gershwins’ version;
it’s far closer to a shul,
though I would not decline a pool
and tennis court in summertime,
when people think of Ira’s rhyme.

When Aaron Copeland visited the Gershwins in Beverly Hills, he was impressed by their tennis court and swimming pool, saying that he did not know that one could obtain either by writing music and lyrics.

Elderly Women Behind The Counter In A Small Town

i seem to recognize your face
haunting, familiar, yet i can't seem to place it
cannot find the candle of thought to light your name
lifetimes are catching up with me
all these changes taking place, i wish i'd seen the place
but no one's ever taken me
hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away...
hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away...
i swear i recognize your breath
memories like fingerprints are slowly raising
me, you wouldn't recall, for i'm not my former
it's hard when, you're stuck upon the shelf
i changed by not changing at all, small town predicts my fate
perhaps that's what no one wants to see
i just want to scream...hello...
my god its been so long, never dreamed you'd return
but now here you are, and here i am
hearts and thoughts they fade...away...
hearts and thoughts they fade...away...
hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away...
hearts and thoughts they fade...

The Fate of a Musician

Every day I pick up my guitar and just play
I write my own songs with the help of friends
We design music and lyrics we start new trends
Acoustic guitar, electric guitar or 12 strings
These instruments have played my songs and I have grown wings
Soaring and flying watching my creations grow
As the music expands the lyrics just flow
The more I create the more passionate I become
The more I play the more fun we have
Music gives me something to do
Each song I write I will be sure to see through
When I am up on stage standing in the spotlight
I spread my wings, start playing, and take flight!
When the crowd cheers you get a feeling of inspiration
After the gig you’re sitting home alone
You pull out your guitar stick in the headphones
You start strumming, creating your own beat
You sit there all night tapping your feet
The history of music and the sound you create
Brings friends closer together I reckon its more then fate.

We worked very hard to make the lyrics suit the music. I can't, like Elton John, for example, compose by lyrics. Elton has a great talent for that. Whatever you give him, including your questions, he composes in half an hour and makes a great song out of it.
