It is not worth the paper it is written on unless it is backed by the kind of force that will make the other side consider the penalties too heavy to break the agreement.

How Betsey and I Made Up
GIVE us your hand, Mr. Lawyer: how do you do to-day?
You drew up that paper—I s'pose you want your pay.
Don't cut down your figures; make it an X or a V;
For that 'ere written agreement was just the makin' of me.
Goin' home that evenin' I tell you I was blue,
Thinkin' of all my troubles, and what I was goin' to do;
And if my hosses hadn't been the steadiest team alive,
They'd 've tipped me over, certain, for I couldn't see where to drive.
No—for I was laborin' under a heavy load;
No—for I was travelin' an entirely different road;
For I was a-tracin' over the path of our lives ag'in,
And seein' where we missed the way, and where we might have been.
And many a corner we'd turned that just to a quarrel led,
When I ought to 've held my temper, and driven straight ahead;
And the more I thought it over the more these memories came,
And the more I struck the opinion that I was the most to blame.
And things I had long forgotten kept risin' in my mind,
Of little matters betwixt us, where Betsey was good and kind;
And these things flashed all through me, as you know things
sometimes will
When a feller's alone in the darkness, and every thing is still.
"But," says I, "we're too far along to take another track,
And when I put my hand to the plow I do not oft turn back;
And 'tain't an uncommon thing now for couples to smash in two;"
And so I set my teeth together, and vowed I'd see it through.
When I come in sight o' the house 'twas some'at in the night,
And just as I turned a hill-top I see the kitchen light;
Which often a han'some pictur' to a hungry person makes,
But it don't interest a feller much that's goin' to pull up stakes.
And when I went in the house the table was set for me—
As good a supper's I ever saw, or ever want to see;
And I crammed the agreement down my pocket as well as I could,
And fell to eatin' my victuals, which somehow didn't taste good.
And Betsey, she pretended to look about the house,
But she watched my side coat pocket like a cat would watch a mouse:
And then she went to foolin' a little with her cup,
And intently readin' a newspaper, a-holdin' it wrong side up.
And when I'd done my supper I drawed the agreement out,
And give it to her without a word, for she knowed what 'twas about;
And then I hummed a little tune, but now and then a note
Was bu'sted by some animal that hopped up in my throat.
Then Betsey she got her specs from off the mantel-shelf,
And read the article over quite softly to herself;
Read it by little and little, for her eyes is gettin' old,
And lawyers' writin' ain't no print, especially when it's cold.
And after she'd read a little she give my arm a touch,
And kindly said she was afraid I was 'lowin' her too much;
But when she was through she went for me, her face a-streamin' with tears,
And kissed me for the first time in over twenty years!
I don't know what you'll think, Sir—I didn't come to inquire—
But I picked up that agreement and stuffed it in the fire;
And I told her we'd bury the hatchet alongside of the cow;
And we struck an agreement never to have another row.
And I told her in the future I wouldn't speak cross or rash
If half the crockery in the house was broken all to smash;
And she said, in regards to heaven, we'd try and learn its worth
By startin' a branch establishment and runnin' it here on earth.
And so we sat a-talkin' three-quarters of the night,
And opened our hearts to each other until they both grew light;
And the days when I was winnin' her away from so many men
Was nothin' to that evenin' I courted her over again.
Next mornin' an ancient virgin took pains to call on us,
Her lamp all trimmed and a-burnin' to kindle another fuss;
But when she went to pryin' and openin' of old sores,
My Betsey rose politely, and showed her out-of-doors.
Since then I don't deny but there's been a word or two;
But we've got our eyes wide open, and know just what to do:
When one speaks cross the other just meets it with a laugh,
And the first one's ready to give up considerable more than half.
Maybe you'll think me soft, Sir, a-talkin' in this style,
But somehow it does me lots of good to tell it once in a while;
And I do it for a compliment—'tis so that you can see
That that there written agreement of yours was just the makin' of me.
So make out your bill, Mr. Lawyer: don't stop short of an X;
Make it more if you want to, for I have got the checks.
I'm richer than a National Bank, with all its treasures told,
For I've got a wife at home now that's worth her weight in gold.

Worth It All
Michael w. smith/ tim putnam/ deborah d. smith
Kanakuk, you continue to inspire me. love you guys!!
Sometimes I wonder what its like
To be living life on the other side
Please dont make me feel like I dont know
Whats out there
Proof is written in the sky
Hey wont you listen to me now
It makes no difference if I wish upon a star
The only absolute is that the word of life
Is written on my heart
Oh I believe
Yes, I believe
Hey look at me, living life for you
When its good, when its hard
You know me, you know my heart
Yea, yea, yea I give up anything at all
When you call
All I know its worth it all
I know youre scared to let me know you
I know you got a heavy kind of soul
And I know its harder to believe in love when youre
Feeling all alone
Theyre taking bets on who the lover of your soul
And your heart is gonna be
Theyre taking on all the things that get you down and out
The moment you believe
I believe in you
Yes, I believe in you

Thanks For The Information
Thanks for the information
Never give a sucker an even break
When hes breaking through
To a new level of consciousness
There always seems to be more
Obstacles in the way
Thanks for the information I know
Its only a combat zone
Thanks for the memory,
Ill just have
To carry on on my own
Chorus:
And its wonderful and its marvelous
How we can ever make it through
Sometimes I wonder how we can ever
Make it from day to day
Thanks for the information
What you gain on the hobby horse you lose on the swing
I like mine over easy
And you can have yours sunny side up
I dont wanna quibble over insignificant details
And Ive tried every trick in the book
Thanks for the information
I know I should look before I leap
Chorus:
And its wonderful and its marvelous
How we can ever make it through
Sometimes I wonder how
We can ever make it at all
Thanks for the information
Never give a sucker an even break
And with her everything light becomes heavy
And everything heavy becomes light
They took me down to the watering hole
Because I happened to mention I was dying of thirst
Then they told me he who believes first will be later
And he who believes later will be first
Chorus:
And its wonderful etc etc....
Thanks for the information
Oh never give a sucker an even break
When youre on to something its a
Dime in a dozen people start
Coming out of the woodwork
Thanks for the invitation
I know I must be on to something big
Everytime I take two steps forward
I end up having to take three back
Chorus:
And its wonderful etc etc....
Thanks for the information
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush
Every time Im ready for a major breakthrough
I always have to think in terms of better of worse
Thanks for the information
Thanks for the memory

Crack That Mould
You got to break the back of the mould you were made in
Crack the shell, thats how its got to be
Nothing for certain, aint no way of knowing
Only believe in things that you see
Flow with the river, run with the tide
Mix with your brother, cos hes right by your side
Crack that mould
Little pretty chicken you cant stay in there forever
Now there aint no such thing as only one kind of weather
You got to bend, learn, take the rough with the smooth
Understand everything
Crack that mould
Now there aint no such thing as only one kind of weather
Pick up them shoes, go running down that road
You know that precondition is such a heavy load
You got to live love, put down that written word
Crack that mould
Now there aint no such thing as only one kind of weather

It's worth it
It's not easy but it can be worth it
Hear I stand, refusing to lie but I stand as a man who is guilty. I am guilty of loving YOU, see you have no Idea what's in the Blu print of my heart, but I take the time each and everyday to make you a priority thur the good times and thee opposite, the breaks downs, and the building back up with a decision to make it work, by the power of both parties agreement to stay. My love is action, that's dis played I can tell cause its written all over your face, with a smile that cant be hidden or erase, I choose to love you, a I will not compromise nothing less but 100% of your Love for me. it's not easy BUT IT CAN BE WORTH IT, Clarence.....

There Are No Minutes Kept Backed Up
There are no minutes kept backed up,
To put aside to decide to live them.
There are no minutes that can be stored as such,
For one to decide life is worth living.
There are no minutes kept backed up.
None one can say they have wrapped up.
There is no one on Earth with that much luck...
To decide when their life is worth the living.
People think they should be shown some proof,
That a life they live is worth the living.
While they isolate themselves locked up in coops,
To decide that a life they live is worth the living.
While awaiting for someone to approve what they do,
That a life given to them is worth the living.
With a choosing of every move...
Excusing some choices while others are removed.
To clarify that a life they live is worth the living.

Break On Through
You know the day destroys the night
Night divides the day
Tried to run
Tried to hide
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side, yeah
We chased our pleasures here
Dug our treasures there
But can you still recall
The time we cried
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Yeah!
C'mon, yeah
Everybody loves my baby
Everybody loves my baby
She get
She get
She get
She get high
I found an island in your arms
Country in your eyes
Arms that chain us
Eyes that lie
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through, oww!
Oh, yeah!
Made the scene
Week to week
Day to day
Hour to hour
The gate is straight
Deep and wide
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through
Break on through
Break on through
Break on through
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

You are changing into a person i just don't like
you act like we are together,
but you don't just say it,
i liked you playful teasing,
but it seem like you are no longer playing,
your demands have became strong,
and something seem to change,
when i looked you dead in the eye and said,
that i listen to no man,
when it comes to telling me what to do,
or what i should be doing,
it was something i ment,
and it seems like you were going to break me,
i may be a bit unsure of myself at times,
but i know what i want,
and for a man to control me,
that will never happen,
i feel like i'm to blame in some way,
like i made you become this way,
but all i have did,
was be myself,
you always seem to say,
that you are so awesome,
but it seems to me like you are a bit unsure yourself,
you do things to make me laugh,
but at times it seem like it is force,
force just so i will laugh and give you attention,
when you going to learn,
that i like you just the way you are,
sensitive, honested and real,
but you treating me like i'm a dog,
throwing paper at me,
it's a bit rude,
demanding me to sit down or to clean up,
your mess you made,
i am not your mother,
nor your dog,
i missed who i use to know,
the guy who didn't put on a show,
just to show that he was the man,
i liked that side that i got to know,
the one who was not shy to be himself around me,
where did that guy go?
because right now,
that guy is slowly fading,
behind a guy,
i'm starting not to like.

Paper
Hold the paper up to the light
(some rays pass right through)
Expose yourself out there for a minute
(some rays pass right through)
Take a little rest when the rays pass through
Take a little time off when the rays pass through
Go ahead and mis it up...go ahead and tie it up
In a long distance telephone call
Hold on to that paper
Hold on to that paper
Hold on becuase its been taken care of
Hold on to that paper
See if you can fit it on the paper
See if you can get it on the paper
See if you can fit it on the paper
See if you can get it on the paper
Had a love affair but it was only paper
(some rays they pass right through)
Had a lot of fun, could have been a lot better
(some rays they pass right through)
Take a little consideration, take every combination
Take a few weeks off, make it tighter, tighter
But it was never, it was never written down
Still might be a chance that it might work out (if you)
Hold on to that paper
Hold on to that paper
Hold on because itll be taken care of
Hold on to that paper
Dont think I can fit it on the paper
Dont think I can get it on the paper
Go ahead and rip up, rip up the paper
Go ahead and tear up, tear up the paper

Make It Shine
written by Marv Ross
There's a miracle waiting, there's a ticket worth taking
There's a reason to believe your eyes
An ounce of conviction is the only admission
Yeah, it's risky, but it's worth the ride
And all the dreams that you've held inside
Yes, they're waiting to break out, you just have to try
Make it shine, let your heart beat right in time
Make it shine, lay your whole world on the line
Find a clue and unfold it, shake the dust off and hold it
If it tells you something let me know
So much is forgotten, so much worth unlocking
Won't you tell me how to break the code
And never worry 'bout the things you read
It's so easy to tear down, so hard to believe
Too may dreamers are fading, shine on, shine on, shine
Live -there's a life to live
Give -there's a gift to give
Yes -there's a reason to make it
Shine on and make it true,
Work -make it work for you
Yes -there's a reason to make it shine
Find a secret and learn it, find a key there and turn it
Do whatever you do through the night
A skill in your fingers like a memory lingers
You gotta do it till it comes out right
You never know till you take a chance
If you're out on that wire you might as well dance

Paper Thin
Rich and wealthy canvas
Clustered up in jewels
Finding all your heavyweights
Are featherweights and fools
Broken all your promises
Broken all your paper plates
Clustered in gold
Crusted in gold
Heavy and hollow
Look at the shape were in
Find us here
Paper thin
Heavy and humble
Look at the shape were in
Find us here
Paper thin
In origami cities
In nations build on sand
Love got bend right outta shape
Things got outta hand
Polystyrene skylines
Papier mch smiles
Rusted and bruised
Tarnished and frail
Heavy and hollow
Look at the shape were in
Find us here
Paper thin
Heavy and humble
Look at the shape were in
Find us here
Paper thin
Stars scrape the moon
And the moon scrapes the sky
We stand beneath
Wondering why
Stars scrape the moon
And the moon scrapes the sky
We stand beneath
Wondering, wondering why
Paper buys the men
The men that make the bomb
The bomb that makes this world
Paper thin!
Money markets crumble
Gentle as a drum
But if you see me stumble, im
Paper thin!
Life is but a fragile thing
So delicate and pure
An accolade bestowed on us
Paper thin!
So contemplate the skull
The skull beneath the skin
One day we all die, were
Paper thin
Bury your destruction
In your last battle hymn
The barriers between us, make em all
Paper thin! paper thin!
Paper thin! paper thin!
Underneath the paper moon
The sky is paper thin
Torn into a thousand shreds
So let the solar system in
Rich and wealthy canvas
Clustered up in jewels
Finding all your heavyweights
Are featherweights and fools
In origami cities
In nations build on sand
Love got bend right outta shape
Nothing ends as planned
And its all-paper thin
Paper thin. paper thin

Breakup 2 Makeup
I saw you again for the first time
Been a long time
He brought out all these feelings
That I never knew I had inside
Seeing you with another girl
It didn't sit me with me cool
And I'm mad at myself 'cause I love you
And with or without you I'm goin' through hell
I don't think that I could shake ya
So baby, can we break up (Yeah)
I know that this is kind of crazy (Baby)
But baby, I wanna make up
I don't think that I could shake ya
So baby, can we break up (I don't think I could shake ya, baby)
I know that this is kind of crazy (Crazy)
But baby (But baby), I wanna make up
I never knew but to love you
How I love you
I thought that I was through wit' you
So glad that I could be single
Now I'm gone thinkin' 'bout the past
And wish that we could just go back
And I'm mad at myself 'cause I love you
And I really want you to come on back
I don't think that I could shake ya (Yeah)
So baby, can we break up (Oh, I want you to come back to me bad)
I know that this is kind of crazy (Hey, yeah)
But baby, I wanna make up (Hey, yeah)
I don't think that I could shake ya (Ooh...ooh...)
So baby, can we break up
I know that this is kind of crazy (I don't think I could shake ya, baby)
But baby (Hey, yeah), I wanna make up
I don't know if I'm crazy
But all pain and the heartache you gave me
Finally made me
Wanna get back wit' you, oh...oh...oh...
You held her hand the way you held mine
You felt her, uh, the way you felt mine
And all the fightin' that we went through
See, I was already used to it
I don't think that I could shake ya
(Hey...ey...hey...ey...)
So baby, can we break up
I know that this is kind of crazy (Crazy)
But baby (Yeah), I wanna make up (I wanna make up wit'
you, babe)
I don't think that I could shake ya (I don't think I could shake ya, babe)
So baby, can we break up (Ooh)
I know that this is kind of crazy (Oh, oh, oh)
But baby (Baby), I wanna make up
I don't think that I could shake ya (What did you do)
So baby, can we break up (Ooh, you got me missin' you)
I know that this is kind of crazy
But baby, I wanna make up (Ooh)
I don't think that I could shake ya (Ooh)
So baby (Baby), can we break up (Break up)
I know that this is kind of crazy (Crazy)
But baby (Baby), I wanna make up
Oh...
La-la-la-la-la
I don't know what you did to me, boy
But I want you so
Come back now or I'll go crazy, crazy
Crazy, crazy

An Honest Perception...
look these ink blots
are not butterflies, they are just ink blots
are you wasting ink on the paper?
are you careless blotting this paper?
you have stained them and they do not look good at all.
do not force me into saying
there are butterflies there
or bats or
clowns, there aren't any
there are no flapping wings
no dragons
no fire, no journeys of a snowman
there are no monsters that live
on paper
they're too heavy to carry on a permeable
sap of trees
slices of wood and lines of fountain
pen...
i am serious now and i am realistic
i want you to feel that i am concrete as a slab as real as a floor
where you stamp your feet and hear my sound
do not force me into a belief that you are an illusion
because you are not
i am not an illusion. i am sad. I am a recipient of your unfairness.
but i am not dead.
tomorrow i will bathe myself with the light of the sun.
i reflect light i am real.
i will dive into the deep river
i splash water, i am a body, i am real.
watch out, i have thoughts and you do not see them.
i have seen you misled me, and i become the storm.
these inkblots stain me. I am real.

Upon this paper my life is written
Upon this paper my life is written,
a tree doubled over in pain.
The red ink flows over the skin,
full stops and commas are hair and stars:
eyes of sea left on ships,
destroyed houses, rusting girders.
This paper is as black as the storm,
destroyed villages where there is no fiesta.
This paper burns as reason does,
lightning in the sky flashes in its millions.
This paper is a sky where there is no God,
this paper is alone…
this paper does not fly…
this paper… it is I.

Nothing Achieving
Words and music by Stewart and Ian Copeland
My daddy's boots don't fit me
'Cause I'm bigger than him
He says I make him big now
I'm bigger than him
You see there's nothing worth achieving
All your dreams are just deceiving
You've locked the doors on your good living
And you told me to wait
You've got me backed into a corner
You're making me hate
I say there's nothing worth achieving
All your dreams are just deceiving
[They say there's nothing worth achieving
All your dreams are just deceiving]
Throwing stones that are reeling
>From a reasonable light
You muscle in when I have a party
Ready to fight
I say there's nothing worth achieving
All your dreams are just deceiving
Nothing
Nothing
Nothing
