Research is formalized curiosity. It is poking and prying with a purpose.

The scorching sun

Prying eyes are the scorching sun.
Prying eyes dry the sprouting love.
Prying eyes fail the budding love.
Yet there spring fresh sprouts and buds.

I guess there's a certain amount of poking fun at certain characters, but that's because there is something amusing about them or about the way they behave, so I guess you can say that that's poking fun at the character. But the character is your own invention, so who cares?

Incompetence our best defence! !

I dreamt a dream wherein I dreamt,
I dreamt a dream of deep content.
But all the while I knew I dreamt.
I tried to wake but my attempt.

My mind just treated with contempt.
Am I the dreamer or the dream
I can’t be wholly confident.
That it is not some experiment.

Conducted without my consent.
To monitor the dreams I’ve dreamt
to analyse my dreams content.
By some arm of the government

Whose only purpose and intent
Is sadly all too evident.
Establishing a precedent.
By which they hope they can prevent

expression of our discontent.
They should not be too complacent.
Because they are incompetent
and grossly overconfident.

We’ll find a way to circumvent
their wish to be omnipotent.
We have to win this argument
and then provide due punishment.

For those found guilty of intent
to use this foul experiment.
Which demonstrates the full extent
of methods used by government.

The things they do clandestinely
Because they dare not openly.
admit to seeking thought control.
Because they know that heads would roll.

We have the right to privacy.
There is no way that they should be.
poking and prying in our mind
just to see if they can find.

another way they can repress
the freedoms that we should possess.
The dream I dreamt may yet come true
I can’t be sure no more can you.

Curiosity

Because of curiosity
All the Vandals had to see
The golden throne
Of Ancient Rome
And brought the city to its knees
Because of curiosity
Because of curiosity
I'm just riddled with anxiety
I'm the lowest level
As a matter of fact
I often dwell for days on this
But when I see your smiling face
I'm so disgraced
And if you're holding out on me
I get curious
As curious as I can be
Curious
Because of curiosity
Curiosity killed the cat
But satisfaction brought it back
In terms of this cat
As a matter of fact
I'll meet you at the old mouse hole
I'll meet you at the old mouse hole
When I see your smiling face
I'm so disgraced
If you're holding out on me
I get curious
As curious as I can be
Curious as I can be
Curious as I can be
Yeah, curiosity

Fairies

They are formed with affection,
They are formed by a small child,
They are formed by a lone mind,
Now they start to fill the skies,
Life recovers from the cold,
Dancing amongst the blossom,
They're wherever we don't look,
Hiding from our prying eyes,
Life gets scorched by the cruel sun,
Dancing in the warm night breeze,
They scamper from human sounds,
Hiding from our prying eyes,
Life prepares for the darkness,
Dancing on dying leaves,
They're nowhere that we can find,
Hiding from our prying eyes,
Life is sleeping through the cold,
Dancing on the icy mist,
They find solace when alone,
Hiding from our prying eyes,
They are killed with denial,
They are killed by a small child,
They are killed with a glass jar,
Until they are almost gone.

Ringmasters Word

I have a purpose...
Take your dill knife, stab me, go, strike my heart...(ha ha, ha ha...ha ha, ha ha )
I have a purpose...
Such things cant exist...
I have a purpose...
You will tell them of me and how one day I shall come for them...
I have a purpose...
Quietly, I will come over your bed,
I will lean over and gently bite your neck...
Ringmaster...
I have a purpose...
You will tell them of me and how one day I shall come for them

Man's Curiosity Lands on Mars!

Of all the many galaxies,
The Maker chose just planet earth,
The third from sun in Milky Way,
For man to inhabit and thrive!

But man's curiosity didn't stop
By landing upon moon's surface!
One small step of Neil Armstrong meant
A giant leap for mankind's science!

Mars Rover Curiosity
Has touched down upon mars surface,
A feat of engineering skills -
A culmination of efforts!

But why search planets for new life?
Home earth has secrets much concealed;
Why waste money and time so far?
Cannot you develop life on earth?

Though curiosity of man
Is good for scientific research,
All know that earth is best for man,
And yet, they hunt for newer ground!

Kudos to scientists' great efforts!
Man's brain is doing things grandiose;
If only money's spent on earth,
All mankind can live happily!

Mere mankind's pow'rs can't move mountains!
The Omnipotent need to bless;
Man's achievements then bear witness
To Maker's awesome power and love!

Dedicated to all the scientists world-wide!

An Innocent Song

I lay me down
at the end of the day
and always before
I start to pray.
I do not think of
a formalized verse.
Because to me
that would be worse
than an inner talk
that honors all life,
an inner praise
that plays like a fife
an innocent song
for God.

One book at a time... though I'm usually doing the research for others while I'm writing, but that sort of research is fairly desultory and I like to stick to the book being written - and writing a book concentrates the mind so the research is more productive.

Prying Eyes

Do you ever get that feeling
someone is watch you all the time.
Scrutinising every move you make
so they can tittle-tattle to the boss,
even if you innocently talk to someone.
It is an uncomfortable feeling
that you get from prying eyes
and there is nothing you can do about it,
except find another job and leave.
There is nothing you can say
when the one with prying eyes
is related to the boss.

The Bequest

When my wife’s great Aunt ‘Dora died
We received a strange bequest.
Not land or Gold or Mallomars
But a box, covered in dust.

Her will strictly enjoined us
from opening the box.
The sides had cryptic puzzles
That served it as strong locks

The box was rather ornate
Carved from finest sandalwood
Inlaid with golden letters
a Greek would have understood.

We both took very seriously
The task to guard this prize
To keep this family heirloom
preserved from prying eyes..

Ten years it stood there in our room
An enigmatic guest
And often I would ponder it
while I was getting dressed.

Until one dark December day
In the Millennial year
Curiosity overcame my wife
And she succumbed, I fear.

My Darling, being curious,
Solved the riddles on the side
She was just prying up the lid
As I ran inside..

A disembodied Banshee screamed
The air was thick and red.
I rushed to close the box back up
in existential dread.

Still, the world seemed little changed
As I sequestered hope.
The radio said by 5-4
George Bush had won the vote

I think on all that’s happened since
As things have gone to Hell
Bloody wars in foreign lands
Discord at home as well.

Since then twin towers crashed and burned
And Wall Street did the same
Do you think it could be possible
Aunt Pandora’s Box shares blame?
