I started the nuclear medicine laboratory at UW Hospitals in 1959 and trained radiology residents in the field. It was 1965 before they found a trained MD (doctor) to take over my role.

Habits are comforts
To listen to the tunes that
Your ears are trained on,
To look at things that
Your eyes are trained on,
And to tread the way that
Your feet are trained in
Will appear sweet to you.
Habits bring comfort zones.

Love Field
You lie so unfolded
In a love field
With your contempt for any modesty
In a love field
In a love field
In a love field
You yield with your lips still sealed
In a love field
Lost in a sea of imaginary women
Everything youd want
From the dawn to the dimming
Breath comes sharp and heart beats faster
In a love field
Cold ground for a pillow
Under a blanket of stars
In a love field
In a love field
In a love field
Headlights that startled
This embrace of hours
In a love field
In a crooked house
Where things can be arranged
You think youre different from the rest
But you dont see how youve changed
Under an archway
On a road of white linen
In a love field
Feel the anxious rhythm of a functional stranger
In a love field
In a love field
In a love field
Shes so tense but its never mentioned
In a love field

I was trained to be an actor, not a star. I was trained to play roles, not to deal with fame and agents and lawyers and the press.

Rough Riders took 13 weeks to shoot, plus a week of training. The same guy trained us trained the cast in Platoon. Except, instead of radios, we used bugles to signal.

Wide World of Intellectual Iliteracy-WWII
Slavery Institutionalized Slavery
You didn’t take me away from aplace
You extricated me from a sacred space Me
You developed and trained mu mind
To blend in with your kind
To put you in the fore front
And leave myself behind
My mind was open to assimilation
And closed to self-realization
Education was the agent of control
Substituting society for my soul
An act of self-suicide for the good of the whole
Was it not the great minds of our times that sanctioned
Self hatred
Made the truth oblique
Made education a conditioning process
To obliterate being unique
Seek a role model, seek a hero
Don’t seek being yourself, you are a zero
If education is the answer
It has a function similar to cancer
Americanization another appellation for education
Mind control, behavioral modification
Violence is a form of militaristic communication
I’m a clone, a mere cheap imitation
If I kill it’s because I’m trained
If I hate it’s because I’m trained
If I steal it’s because I’m trained
I don’t know who I am but because I am trained
I Am A Professional

I just knew that was what I wanted to do. I was going to perform as a singer; I was going to perform as a dancer, and I was, you know, going to do movies and be an actress. I was going to do it or die trying. That's what my life was.

I trained and trained and went up against Kurt, then being a world champion in '94, and after that I did Tommy's tour and then my tour and all this stuff and just trying to deal with it all. And now, I've just kind of backed off a little.

A lot of Irish people perform. They perform in drawing rooms. They sing songs and they play piano.

We all perform our lives in a way. And the actor is a perfect metaphor to get at that theme of 'how do we find our authentic selves?' And that we all - whether we're actors or not - perform ourselves. As a way of searching. As a way of fumbling around and trying to say, is this my voice? Is this who I am?

Bush's war in Iraq has done untold damage to the United States. It has impaired our military power and undermined the morale of our armed forces. Our troops were trained to project overwhelming power. They were not trained for occupation duties.

The Deserted House
There's no smoke in the chimney,
And the rain beats on the floor;
There's no glass in the window,
There's no wood in the door;
The heather grows behind the house,
And the sand lies before.
No hand hath trained the ivy,
The walls are grey and bare;
The boats upon the sea sail by,
Nor ever tarry there.
No beast of the field comes nigh,
Nor any bird of the air

It is better to make a piece of music than to perform one, better to perform one than to listen to one, better to listen to one than to misuse it as a means of distraction, entertainment, or acquisition of ""culture.""
During Auditions
There is nothing that will change
Someone notoriously independable
Into a reliable human being.
Unless proof and statistics gathered...
Have been monitored by Sea Lions.
And themselves mistakeably trained,
By Eskimos
Believing them to be Polar Bears...
Who wore goggles
During auditions to perform such tasks.
And the lights went out.
Leaving the Sea Lions to be selected,
In total darkness.
After singing their rendition of 'Moon River'.
And they captivated by having the right tone and pitch,
In their voices.
And were chosen...
Because they had been left handed.
And the information they collected,
Had been misinterpreted...
By recruited winos sleeping on 5th Avenue!

Inspired by Issa - your rice field, my rice field
your rice field, my rice field
the road between that leads
to our dreams in tokyo
your rice field, my rice field
the road between that leads
to our sons in tokyo
inspired
your rice field
my rice field
the same green

Falling into oblivion
We were only eighteen
and just matriculated
when the call up papers came
and we went to the army
by troop train.
The die was cast
and our lives
changed all to fast
from that first military train ride.
We were paid very little
and trained at basic camp
and trained again
and sent to war.
Some of us died
and some survived
and was changed
by what happened there,
but today
that time and place
and all of that
are falling into oblivion
as if the sacrifices made
was all in vain.

Containment Protocol Initiated
Military will shoot kill civilians
orders are orders
if that's what they are ordered to do?
Training is training
follow orders through and through
that's what we are trained to do?
Military will shoot kill civilians
if ordered to do so?
We are trained to follow orders?
The penalty for not follower orders
in combat... death by firing squad?
Would you follow orders? Do you?
We are trained to follow orders?
