There is something in the misfortune of our best friends which does not displease us.
Seven and half years ago I began my own journey. For me and my family it was a time of adversity. But during that adversity I derived a deeper faith. And born out of that adversity was a commitment to devote myself to those people and to those issues that truly matter to me.

Adversity
Adversity, adversity, how strange is your fate.
To most it’s loss and sorrow compounded by a spate
Of shallow glances, lost chances
Nourishing doubts and fears,
With ignominious ignorance,
Washed down by gushing tears.
For these sad souls adversity is a cruel happenstance.
Even before its advent they were afforded little chance.
Though adversity, intrinsically favors neither side,
Some souls advance… even enhance their dance,
While all others continue their downward slide.
This august group knows adversity by another name.
Adversity and opportunity to them sound much the same.
Travails, trauma, thunder clouds are all ways they learn.
Journeys unclear and dangers near they miss not a turn
In their effort to bestow good fortune they have received
So less fortunate souls may sense what it is to be relieved.

False Ideals
Invented by the human mind
Not knowing what was real
What sort of god lets people die?
Yet still to him you kneel
Only hypocrites and sinners
Feel they have something to gain
And the old, torn and afflicted
Think that he can heal their pain
What is wrong, why can't these people see?
Ask yourself is it truth or blasphemy?
You will find you cannot face adversity
No more time, such insecurity
Born again your conscience clear
You give your life to him
Renounce those who are faithless
Contentment lies within
Worship what you cannot see
Small minds you can distort
Force fed with false ideals
Why believe what you are taught?
What is wrong, why can't these people see?
Ask yourself is it truth or blasphemy?
You will find you cannot face adversity
No more time, such insecurity
So book in hand you stand and preach
Telling us to repent
Something about a promised land
Or eternal torment
Could this be your vocation
Or another mistake
Just deny provocation
>From this nightmare you'll awake
What is wrong, why can't these people see?
Ask yourself is it truth or blasphemy?
You will find you cannot face adversity
No more time, such insecurity

The Better Friend
A man of good character is a better friend
Than a rich man who only loves his wealth
For the man with character will stay till the end
With his friend, in poverty or in poor health.
I have had so many friends in times of abundance
And only about two remained in Adversity
In life I discovered true friends of substance
Were not found in my times of Prosperity.
So when you are down and so all alone
And you find there is one friend who stands with you
You are most blessed not with what you own
But for that one friend whom you found is true.

Afraid For Love To Fade
(jose mari chan)
My heads in a jam
Cant take you off my mind
From the time we met
Ive been beset by thoughts of you
And the more that I ignore this feeling
The more I find myself believing
That I just have to see you again
I cant let you pass me by
I just cant let you go
But I know that I am much too shy
To let you know
Afraid that I might say the wrong words
And displease you
Afraid for love to fade
Before it can come true
Like a child again
Im at a loss for words
How does one define
A crush combined with longing?
Longing to possess you oh so dearly
Im obsessed by you completely
Ill go mad if I cant have you
I cant let you pass me by
I just cant let you go
But I know that I am much too shy
To let you know
Afraid that I might say the wrong words
And displease you
Afraid for love to fade
Before it can come true
(instrumental)
I cant let you pass me by
I just cant let you go
Let me say the things and say the words
To let you know
I would rather say the awkward words
Than lose you
Or for love to fade
Before it can come true

Initially, I know that I handled it worse than she did and I think partly because I've always been... every bit of adversity I've faced up until the last year and a half is adversity I brought upon myself - or the opposing teams have given me.
