Thoughts On Turning 30
They might wish me 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY'
or even 'many happy returns of the day'.
My folks send me gifts and greeting
congratulating me
on a life that's fleeting?
Yeah, so I happen to be pessimistic on this
One who sees the hour-glass of life half empty
rather than half full.
For I vision each birthday
as a step closer to old age
A step closer to dreaded death
It's hard to look forward to going gaga or decrepit
when smooth skin would become crumpled, wrinkled
The age of doddering limbs half in the grave
Thus each birthday to me
is a step closer to the end of a lifetime
A step closer to the unwanted guest - senility
That reverting to child-like debility
The dwindling of all agility
So I'd rather not celebrate
the nearing of the time when
we'd play back 'em' flash-backs
and in the mind re-live our life tracks
when everything would trickle down to mere memories
with ample time to linger upon life's souvenirs
So a birthday is a step forward
but towards thy graveyard
The road might be longer
or unfortunately
end abruptly
in a short cut
to heaven or to hell
bard or no bard!

Baby Step Back
Now it looks to me like the same old place
In the sky it looks like rain
The same old town with the same old streets
The address has not change
You can find me there
With the door shut tight
And the one wish that remains
Baby step back baby step back
Either step up or step back
No you know I dont write no bad checks
I have no wish to repent
Ive seen a few
But whatever I do
I dont cause no accidents
Whiskey and wine help me pass the time
I dont leave no evidence
Baby step back baby step back
Either step up or step back
Baby step back baby step back
Either step up or step back
Still I dont kneel down
I was born to fight
So youd best leave me alone
Maybe Ill get much more than I need
Or much less than I should own
Last of all let me say it again
Either step up or step on
Baby step back baby step back
Either step up or step back
Baby step back baby step back
Either step up or step back
Baby walk back baby walk back
Either walk on or walk back
Baby step back ...

2 Steps
You know im the kind of guy that does a 9-5
Workin real hard cuz its the way I live my life
Back home just me and you girl all alone
With no one interrupting, switch off the phone
But I could be that other guy
Who comes home late at night and tells you lies
So why you trippin out on me girl all the time?
When everyday its only you thats on my mind
Everytime we take one step forward you take two steps back
Everytime its right you bring left back
Hey you really gotta think about it
cuz theres really no doubt about it
You know I've been there for you and thats the truth
Everytime we take one step forward you take two steps back
Everytime its right you bring left back
Hey you really gotta think about it
cuz theres really no doubt about it
You know I've been there for you and thats the truth
You know you're the kinda girl that doesn't need to front
Keep it real, let me know just what you want
Sometimes you just dont know when to stop
Your working so much over nothing
Your just losing what you got
Now cant you see there's no other girl
I think your the most beautiful woman in this world (yeah)
But you say I dont appreciate ya and I dont know how to treat ya
We dont do the same things we used to do nomore
Everytime we take one step forward you take two steps back
Everytime its right you bring left back
Hey you really gotta think about it
cuz there's really no doubt about it
You know ive been there for you and thats the truth
Everytime we take one step forward you take two steps back
Everytime its right you bring left back
Hey you really gotta think about it
cuz there's really no doubt about it
You know ive been there for you and thats the truth
Remember, it wasnt that long ago
You told me that you loved me so
Dont forget all the nights we shared when you told me girl just how much you cared
Remember, you can be led astray
But thats the way playas play
Im not that kinda man why cant you understand cuz I
Want you to trust in me, Babygirl cant you see
You're only gonna mess things up
You've done enough
Why cant you stop cuz
You're gonna lose whats good for you
And thats the last thing you wanna do
Won't find another like me
Everytime we take one step forward you take two steps back
Everytime its right you bring left back
Hey you really gotta think about it
cuz there's really no doubt about it
You know ive been there for you and thats the truth
Everytime we take one step forward you take two steps back
Everytime its right you bring left back
Hey you really gotta think about it
cuz there's really no doubt about it
You know ive been there for you and thats the truth
Everytime we take one step forward you take two steps back
Everytime its right you bring left back
Hey you really gotta think about it

You know ive been there for you and thats the truth

Turn Around
It lookes like a long way
I speed like from the fast line
You dont look around
So clear, clear as the target
Running up in the eyes,
With no shoes on.
Youre like a vampire at sunset
Like a canibal at the zoo
Like a snowman in a fur
So what youre gonna do?
Turn around before its all too late
You are going one step forward and two steps back
Turn around before its all too late
You are going one step forward and two steps back
You swim with sharks
Diving in the deep sea
With laughing gas
So white, white is the snow
Easy to get and hard to get rid of
You are like a gun without a trigger
Like a burglar on a grill
Like a soldier on a peace call
With a license to kill
Turn around before its all too late
You are going one step forward and two steps back

The Gordon Back Step (Fun Poem 102)
Lets all do the Gordon back step.
We will make a decision
and when that falls flat
we will all step back
and apologize for that
and do the Gordon back step
like our Prime Minister likes to do.
I am sure it would make
a great dance to do.
First, make a decision
as daft as the last one you made.
Step forward with a proposal
and watch out for the no’s to the left.
Then step back and apologize for that
and do the Gordon back step.
It is so easy to do
or at least our Prime Minister
makes it look that way.

One Step Closer
I'm 'round the corner from anything that's real
I'm across the road from hope
I'm under a bridge in a rip tide
That's taken everything I call my own
One step closer to knowing
One step closer to knowing
I'm on an island at a busy intersection
I can't go forward, I can't turn back
Can't see the future
It's getting away from me
I just watch the tail lights glowing
One step closer to knowing
One step closer to knowing
One step closer to knowing
Knowing, knowing
I'm hanging out to dry
With my old clothes
Finger still red with the prick of an old rose
Well the heart that hurts
Is a heart that beats
Can you hear the drummer slowing?
One step closer to knowing
One step closer to knowing
One step closer to knowing
To knowing, to knowing, to knowing

I took a little break - I was coming back to work and the last thing I was going to do was take a step backwards, so I knew that if I was going to take a feature it was going to have to be taking a step forward.
Taking Two Steps Back
If someone's life experiences exceeds,
That of others in the same environment...
It becomes increasingly difficult,
To pretend an ignorance.
Since this is an accepted form of communication.
And taking two steps back,
For every half step forward others take...
Actually becomes a refreshing undertaking.
Those seeing someone do this,
Embraces this movement as one they can identify.
And it does not become offensive to them.

One Step Over The Line (feat. Roseanne Cash And John Hiatt)
When I look into your eyes
See the world cut down to size
Baby don't apologize
Takin' me one step over the line
When I touch your secret skin
Babe I know it ain't no sin
I feel you startin' to give in
Now let's go one step over the line
I know it's just your daddy's car
Your daddy never went this far
Baby we know who we are
Let's go one step over the line
I can be your drivin' wheel
We could make those tires squeal
Ooo I like the way it feels
Takin' it one step over the line
One step forward and two steps back
It's for the first time baby
I'm talkin' cake walkin' into the black
A crossin' red line and I don't mean maybe
I hear they buried lover's lane
In a sea of tears and blame
It's you and me go up in flames
Baby, one step over the line
They're drawin' boxes on the ground
Just to make us look on down
All we gotta do is look around
And take it one step over the line
A one step over the line
Come on baby, one step over the line

When You Left I Did a U-Turn
When you left I did a U-Turn.
And prevented my feelings from yielding.
After being burned I have learned,
Never hop back in hot spots.
When you left I did a U-Turn.
And whether or not you ever return,
My heart has been cautioned...
To stop with a never looking back.
When you left I did a U-Turn.
And prevented my feelings from yielding.
After being burned I've learned,
Never hop back in hot spots.
When you left I did a U-Turn.
And whether or not you ever return,
My heart has been cautioned...
To stop with a never looking back.
With a packing of my things to step forward,
And go...
From a closed door.
To stop with a never looking back.
With a packing of my things to step forward,
And go...
From a closed door.
With a packing of my things to step forward,
And go!
When you left I did a U-Turn.
With a packing of my things to step forward,
And go!

Crown
step forward
chin up, back straight
onto the stone of destiny
plant feet firm
and remember
step backward
head tilted, brow knit
only in the mind
return to what
brought you here
step aside
shoulders squared, hips lithe
be removed but
be re-placed
the river flows downstream

One step forward and two steps back Is for the birds
I'm talking cake walking into the black

Baby one step over the line

Take a step back in time
Take a step back in time
Where you could leave your door unlocked and not think about thieves
Take a step back in time
where you can take you time
and no rushing to do something or go somewhere
Take a step back in time
where nobody dies
Take a step back in time
to see how a life was lived
Take a step back in time
to fix a mistake
Don't you wish you could take a step back in time

No Step
I looked out of my window, saw a stencil black,
No step. no step.
There were nervous mothers with children crying in the back.
No step. no step.
Someone bought me my ticket, now Im on the wing.
Hope my angels are watching me, do I hear them sing?
No step. no step.
Those afterburners cut in and kicked us high.
No step. no step.
The thin air shimmered, the sun cut through and burned my eye.
No step. no step.
Someone bought me my ticket, now Im on the wing.
Hope my angels are watching me, do I hear them sing?
No step.
No step no step.
No step no step.
No step no step.
Give me a jet stream schooner or a crew-legged goose.
No step. no step.
Im a clear-air jockey when they turn me loose
No step. no step.
Someone bought me my ticket to the captains seat.
Will the shakes soon leave me, will I find my feet?
No step. no step.
No step. no step.
No step.

Dick
Dont say a word
Your love is like a symphony
Brave as you dare
Its nothing but your game
Ill take off your shoes
To pull you up in extasy
Hide and to lose
Thats why Ill force you to
Move back a step (step)
Go back a step
Comon you shout
(3x)
Move back a step (step)
Move your head like that
Dick!!!!!!!!! oh dick!!!!!!!
Gotta go
Dick!!!!!!!!! yeah yeah come!
Now its time to live your fantasies
(yeah yeah)
And you know we have a new concept
To turn the kind of lust in penalty
Just look what I do
Move back a step (step)
Go back a step
Comon you shout
(3x)
Move back a step (step)
Move your head like that
Dick!!!!!!!!! oh dick!!!!!!!
Gotta go
Dick!!!!!!!!! yeah yeah come!

Hear I Come-2
All five thousand stand up,
Turn around three times,
Clockwise.
Raise both hands to the sky,
Turn around four times,
Anticlockwise.
Stop!
Bend and touch your toes,
Two times
Stop!
Two thousand sit down,
Cross your legs.
Three thousand stand up:
Wave the banners, right to left,
Five times,
Stop!
Take two steps forward,
One step backward,
Stop!
Throw the confetti,
On the two thousand
And turn three times
Clockwise.
All stand up and shout:
Praise Him!
Praise Him!
Jah!
Take one step backward,
One step forward,
And dip.
Take one step backward,
One step forward
And dip.
Shout:
Praise Him!
Praise Him!
Jah!
Light the banners,
Turn around three times,
Clockwise.
Shout:
Jah! Jah!
