The beet must be uprooted.

Sarcastic Wit
I once convinced myself,
I could curb my sarcastic wit.
And for all of ten minutes,
I tolerated my enforced patience.
Hoping the expressions in my eyes...
With an eyebrow lift,
Would deliver my thoughts...
Without them coming through my lips.
But the torment shown on my face,
Could not erase the smoke slowly emitting...
From my ears.
And when it was mentioned to me,
My eyeballs look as if they would pop out of my head...
And my face was beginning to turn beet red?
Well...
Immediately I panicked.
Black folks are not known to turn beet red!
I was not prepared to become a phenomenon.
OR a statistic.
I realized for health reasons,
It is better for me to be sarcastic.
Than to pass out to accomplish the impossible...
By attempting to keep my mouth closed.
Instead of freely saying to another...
What it is I have to say.
Since I am not into rolling eyes...
Or speaking out of both sides of my mouth.
Like some folks I know,
Afraid that being direct...
May effect their standing in gosssip circles.
And who have popularized,
The 'look away as they speak'...
Delivery when communicating.
And...
They are quite comfortable in the doing.

Woh Sawan Tha, Yeh bhadon Hai. [ Poem in Hindi]
Woh sawan tha jo beet gaya
Tab paydon par jhuley jholti thi
Allhad masst jawani
Ik pal barasta tha paani
Dujey pal dhoop nikalti thi
Ik pal hum mil kar hanstey thay
Dujey pal virha mein jaltey thay
Woh sawan tha jo beet gaya.
Yeh bhadon hai
Iss ki vyatha main kis se kahoon
Na tum ho priyey
Na koi humdum
Ab jab bhi barkha hoti hai
Toa bas barkha hi hoti hai
Umeed ab tere aane ki
Iss pal kabhi sehlati nahien
Be- bass yeh jeevan lagta hai
Vyarth yeh duniya lagti hai
Yeh bhadon hai
Iss ki vyatha main kis se kahon
Yaadon ke athah samunder main
Jab lehren hilorey layti hain
Aakash main badal garajte jab
Mann par bijli si girti hai
Aur pass nahien tum hoti jab
Nainon se paani barasta hai
Ab jab bhi barkha hoti hai
Toa bas barkha hi hoti hai. [1973]
Cape winters (EM Du Toit Rondeau type)
On the Southern tip of Africa when the southeaster blows with mighty main
oak trees sway, break and are uprooted on the shores
while people shelter indoors
from the daily sieving winter rain,
sunless life seems mundane
while doing the same chores
on the Southern tip of Africa.
Sunless life seems mundane
while people shelter indoors
oak trees sway, break and are uprooted on the shores
and the storm wind rattles every windowpane
on the Southern tip of Africa.

The old pumpkin in the courtyard shall not be uprooted.
When 'ithare' is uprooted 'mugumo' grows in its place.
Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted.

Everybody
Music is what i'm living for
Everybody loves to dance
With another summer romance uh baby
Everybody likes to move
All the fellows having the groove uh baby
Everybody move your feet
To the rythm of this beet
Everybody sing this song
All the people having fun
Music is what I'm living for
Hit the dancefloor like there ain't no more
Ain't no more time for taking your chance
Jam digin jam to the summer romance
wave your hands in the air
Everyone and everywhere...
Move your body jump around check it out with this sound
Everybody everybody get up and sing it loud
This is the sound that makes you feel proud
Everybody hear tonight
We'll never start a fight uh baby
Everybody is felling proud
If you feel it say it loud uh baby
Everybody move your feet
To the rythm of this beet
Everybody sing this song
All the people having fun
When the sun goes down
And the night moves up
The time is right to enjoy yourself
And doin' whatever you wanna do, I mean everybody
Pleasure and pain sometimes the same
I'm not the shamed there's no name for the game
The game that makes my heart still pumping
Boom boom, my body is jumping love
Love everyday and night
the sigh for peace is shining bright
Everybody everybody, get up and sing it loud
This is the song that makes you feel proud

Days Gone By...
back to
simplicity,
i wait for you
in that old city
as faithful as a
an uprooted
tree where
what remains only
is the covered
walk.

Was it not enough punishment and suffering in history that we were uprooted and made helpless slaves not only in new colonial outposts but also domestically.

We could not guard every water pipeline from being blown up and every tree from being uprooted. We could not prevent every murder of a worker in an orchard or a family in their beds.

I have supported my deviations with reasons I did not stop at mere doubt I have vanquished, I have uprooted, I have destroyed everything in my heart that might have interfered with my pleasure.

I Will Meet You Again
Sometime,
Somewhere,
Somehow,
Someday;
I will meet you again.
Meet, feet, fleet, beet;
Anywhere,
Anytime,
Anyhow,
And at any day!
I will meet you again.
Greet, sleet, sheet, street!
Somewhere anytime,
Sometime anywhere,
Somehow someday;
I will meet you again.

you have all the reasons to be sad
and be afraid
like a tree
you have no roots
and where you grow
around are rocks
when the typhoon comes
you have nowhere to hold
and you cannot stand
against the harsh winds
you will be uprooted
and blown away
you will be washed away
to the river and then to the sea
because you have
not really loved
truly.

Unwanted Memory
Havoc struck cyclone
Threw me aghast to shrink sunk
A shrine gobbled up
Nineteen sixty four
wreathed big with uprooted lives
Dhanushkoti deep

Improvisations: Light And Snow: 14
Like an old tree uprooted by the wind
And flung down cruelly
With roots bared to the sun and stars
And limp leaves brought to earth —
Torn from its house —
So do I seem to myself
When you have left me.

Feelings about leaving
I left the place I had been to for years.
Leaving a place is not about bidding
Good bye but more about feeling uprooted
And searching for a new identity.

The basic drives
Self preservation and race preservation
Are the basic drives with which life is run.
All kinds of actions are their extensions.
Hence, selfishness cannot be uprooted.

Corporate Bottom Line
Shabbily they're seen and treated...
Workers jerked and losing perks.
Erased,
Are any raises in pay.
Everyday a job is outsourced,
To prevent a further loss.
And this is cost effective,
As a company directs!
Silk suits sit high to do their looting.
No matter who is booted,
To refine a bottom line.
And...
Silk suits sit high to do their looting.
No matter who is booted,
To refine a bottom line.
Uprooted to make beautiful,
A corporate bottom line.
Those recruited to dilute and choose...
A corporate bottom line.
Uprooted to make beautiful,
A corporate bottom line.
Those recruited to dilute and choose...
A corporate bottom line.
No excuses when it comes to boost,
A corporate bottom line.
Those recruited to dilute and choose...
A corporate bottom line.
Uprooted to make beautiful,
A corporate bottom line.
Those recruited to dilute and choose...
A corporate bottom line.
No excuses when it comes to boost,
