Bill Mitchell said he really liked it. But when he asked the other four their opinions, we all took one look at ourselves in our raggedy long winter coats and cracked up. We knew we weren't likely to tempt anyone or anything, but what the hell, it was as good a name as any.

Everyone Have Their Opinions

Everyone have their opinions that's how it ought to be
And respect their opinions though with them you may not agree
As long as they respect human rights and a fair go for all
The difference between you and them to say the least is small.

Everyone have their opinions and no two quite the same
Even between those who are known to think alike some difference one can name
That's what makes us most interesting we all think differently
And you are very different so different to me.

Everyone have their own opinions a fact that is well known
And like 'tis said of him or her the words to each their own
To others opinions you should not react in a violent sort of a way
We must allow for difference and let them have their say.

Everyone have their opinions that fact with us remain
And as long with your opinions power over others you don't seek to gain
Though your opinions may be very different to mine
I respect your way of thinking and our difference suits me fine.

An Old Coat Rack

There is an old coat rack
that stands in the hall
and I’ve often wondered
whose coat once hung there.
It is much older than it looks,
probably a hundred years or more.
Many coats have hung on it
by people large and small.
I did hear that at one time
the coat rack belonged to Buffalo Bill,
so it is possible that Wild Bill Hickok
and Annie Oakley hung their coats
on it at sometime.
One will never know,
but now this little coat rack
with some history
belongs to only me.

I Never Knew Love

I asked you to come inside my heart
And there you were
I asked for a pure and gentle start
And there you were
I asked fif this love could ever be
The way that I've dreamt of it you see
I never knew love
I asked you to open up my eyes
And there you were
I asked for the keys to paradise
And there you were
They say only ask and you'll receive
I never knew that applied to me
I never knew love
Life is good life is sweet
It's the way we perceive
Cynics say we can dream
Change your mind heal the world
It's easy just believe
I asked for a change in all my life
And there you were
You're everything I had hoped to find
Yes, there you were
I hope and I pray that you will find
A peace and a joy as great as mine
All about love I hope you find love

Song of the Dardanelles

The Wireless tells and the cable tells
How our boys behaved by the Dardanelles.
Some thought in their hearts “Will our boys make good?”
We knew them of old and we knew they would!
Knew they would—
Knew they would;
We were mates of old and we knew they would.
They laughed and they larked and they loved likewise,
For blood is warm under Southern skies;
They knew not Pharoah (’tis understood),
And they got into scrapes, as we knew they would.
Knew they would—
Knew they would;
And they got into scrapes, as we knew they would.

They chafed in the dust of an old dead land
At the long months’ drill in the scorching sand;
But they knew in their hearts it was for their good,
And they saw it through as we knew they would.
Knew they would—
Knew they would;
And they saw it through as we knew they would.

The Coo-ee called through the Mena Camp,
And an army roared like the Ocean’s tramp
On a gale-swept beach in her wildest mood,
Till the Pyramids shook as we knew they would.
Knew they would—
Knew they would.
(And the Sphinx woke up as we knew she would.)

They were shipped like sheep when the dawn was grey;
(But their officers knew that no lambs were they).
They squatted and perched where’er they could,
And they “blanky-ed” for joy as we knew they would.
Knew they would—
Knew they would;
They “blanky-ed” for joy as we knew they would.

The sea was hell and the shore was hell,
With mine, entanglement, shrapnel and shell,
But they stormed the heights as Australians should,
And they fought and they died as we knew they would.
Knew they would—
Knew they would;
They fought and they died as we knew they would.

From the southern hills and the city lanes,
From the sandwaste lone and the Blacksoil Plains;
The youngest and strongest of England’s brood!—
They’ll win for the South as we knew they would.
Knew they would—
Knew they would;
They’ll win for the South as we knew they would.

aaa1 Especially the Donkeys

I remember thinking it’s all happening in the sky
Above the clouds
I remember thinking how did we get to know about it
6yrs old
With innocence of a child I never thought to question
Never asked mum or dad
Never asked anyone
Others believed so why not me
Anyway the stories were great
Grandad in his uniform, he believed
Auntie Rose believed
The whole side of dad’s family believed
They played in the band,
Sold the papers
Rattled the tins
Story was dad was thrown out for drinking
Off ill the doctor said Bill have some stout, it will do you good
When the officer saw it on a home visit dad was thrown out
But he still believed
So did I, with the innocence of a child
Auntie Gladys believed but they had no band
Just an organ, and the songs weren’t as good
No joy
Just belief
Uncle Fred repaired the roof, did odd jobs
He believed
Anyway it was worth believing for the Whit walks
People threw money
You kept it
After the walks the bus
The annual trip to Southport
Sandwiches and songs on the beach
Yet I still see myself, in the classroom
Dreaming of this land in the sky
Wondering why all these people didn’t fall out of it
Especially the Donkeys

If It Weren't For Him (feat. Rosanne Cash)

(Vince Gill - Rosanne Cash)
Wince Gill & Rosanne Cash
If she'd only knew what I was thinking
If she'd only knew what was in my head
Why can't she see my heart is breaking
She'd be mine if it weren't for him.
So many times I dreamed I had her
I call her name when I lay down
Still I can't learn to live without
Her jealous heart is all I found.
See your face would be my destiny
Now I won't take what you can give to me
This lonely place is all I hope to find
If it weren't for him then you'd be mine.

They Asked About You

(freddy weller, kim nash, bill nash)
Saturday night
Out on the town
Feeling so sure of myself
Meeting some friends
Sharing some laughs
Not thinking of anything else
Then one of them leaned over my shoulder
And all at once the party was over
Chorus:
They asked about you
And suddenly it all came back to me
Then all the walls around my heart
Came crashing at my feet
When they asked about you
(oh) they asked about you
I was doing ok
Until they asked about you
How could they know
What it would do
All they did was mention your name
And just like that
The hurting was back
Thats when I knew nothing had changed
What a time for old memories to find me
Just when I thought Id put em behind me
Repeat chorus

The Original Sin of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden

The devil knew that Eve was weak;
So chose to tempt the lady first;
A Liar by nature, Satan,
It asked Eve tell what God had bid.

Poor Eve knew not the wily snake,
And the Tempter's evil design;
She blurted out the truth God said;
‘They could eat fruits of every tree.

But not the one, God had forbade,
For, death befell the one who ate.'
But Satan told innocent Eve,
It wasn't the truth what God had said.

By eating fruit of ‘knowledge' tree,
One came to know the good from bad!
Your eyes open, you'll be like Gods,
And never die as God had said.

Poor Eve believed the charming words
Uttered by mouth of wily snake!
The tree looked good, so would its fruit;
She thought the snake had told the truth!

The apple looked so enticing
That Eve decided to taste it.
She longed for the wisdom it brought,
And so decided to eat it.

She ate some fruits and took one to
The sleeping Adam; made him eat!
Adam also ate the fruit brought;
They realized they were naked!

Eve was the first to fall in sin
And succumbed to the temptation;
She did not stop with her folly
But made her husband do the same!

The moment, they had eaten then,
Their nakedness, they realized;
They made loin-cloths out of fig leaves
to hide their nudity from God.

They hid amidst the garden trees,
But God called them in a loud voice;
Adam threw the blame upon Eve,
And ate the fruit because she gave!

When God asked Eve, she threw the blame
Upon the snake who tempted her;
Thus was the original sin
Committed by our first parents!

The Tempter knew how to deceive
The lady first, through her the man;
To make the man first eat the fruit
Was perhaps not an easier thing!

And so, the crafty devil lied;
The woman Eve in him believed;
They committed the first big sin,
For now, the Liar seemed to win!

‘The snake became accursed of all
Bellying its way all through its life;
And eat dust as long as it lived.' -
The punishment pronounced by God!

When God had asked both Adam, Eve,
If they disobeyed His command,
They tried to blame the next for it,
Persisting in their lie to God.

Eve would bear children with great pain;
And yearn for her husband all life;
Adam would have to till the soil,
And get food-crops by sweat and toil!

As Adam put the blame on Eve;
As though he knew not God's command;
They weren't aware of God's wisdom,
And hence were banished from Eden!

Had they accepted their fault then,
Perhaps God could have forgiven;
And mankind could have still been saved,
From exile from Eden Garden!

Bible Verse

I asked the child why did she curse
Her answer was, she knew not a Bible verse
She never went to church or knew how to say a prayer
So all that she knew, was how to curse and swear,
I was told that her mother had taught her well
But never taught her about heaven or even hell
And all that she knew is from what she had read
While listening to the words that her mother had said.

I asked the child why did she lie
Her response to me, it is better than to cry
As things got bad and then they turned worse
That's all that she knew, and she knew not a Bible verse,
Her mother had told her the things not to do
But then they differed from other's points of view
And all the child knew was from what she had seen
As she watched her mother, which was unforeseen.

I asked the child why did she steal
Taking from others for a terrible ordeal
She answered me, as she placed the goods in her purse
'It is the way that I am', and I know not of a Bible verse
Someday soon I will probably smoke and drink
Spoke the child to me as she began to think
But then am I not the girl that my mother did raise
And every day to my mother, I give her praise.

I asked the child why did she fight
She then said to me, it's better than being polite
Her mother's honor again she had to defend
And fighting is all that she could comprehend
So the child then wiped the pain off of her face
As she slowly walked away in sadness and disgrace
The last thing she said to me as we did converse
She said, I truly wish that I knew a Bible verse.

Judging Me

Isn't it funny, how you judge me?
You look at my hair and say I'm crazy
It is woolly and you call it kinky
Who cares what you think?
Judge yourself not me.
Isn't it funny, what you say about me?
You look at my clothes and say it's raggedy
It's patchy and you call it untidy.
But, that's good enough for me.
Please yourself not me.
Isn't it funny, how you think about me?
You look at my skin and think it's dirty.
I'm a farmer and I deal with dirt
Really! That does not hurt.
I live for me and not for you.
Isn't it funny, how you feel about me?
You look at me and think I'm a thief.
I till the soil so that we can eat.
I please myself and no one else.
Isn't it funny, the opinion you have about me?
You smell my sweat and say yak!
I work in the rain and get dirt and stains.
I ‘m an honest man, this you must understand.
Isn't it funny what the people talk about me?
I'm crazy, raggedy, dirty, yaky, a thief and untidy
It's too bad you don't know me
The good thing is, I am me.

Cameo pt.2

He was sitting on the bus his self esteem in the dust
When he asked an old man if sadness is a must
If he can’t make the money then he’s sure to lose his honey
Hasn’t eaten all day you could probably hear his tummy
And the rent’s past due when her parent’s pass through
Their child’s life is such a mess it’ll make them achoo(!)

Old man looked at him as if his name was Adam
And said big problems can get broken down to atoms
Today’s disaster will be tomorrow’s plaster
Rebuild it how you want, don’t let it be the master
Opinions of mothers and goofy in-law brothers
Should never outweigh yours or your choosy lover

I listened to him teach cause he never once preached
And the things he was saying weren’t too far out of reach
Problems go on and on but they never stay that long
I turned to look at him but the old man was gone

Protocol

Who are these ones who would lead us now
To the sound of a thousand guns
Whod storm the gates of hell itself
To the tune of a single drum
Where are the girls of the neighborhood bars
Whose loves were lost at sea
In the hills of france and on german soil
From saigon to wounded knee
Who come from long lines of soldiers
Whose duty was fulfilled
In the words of a warriors will
And protocol
Where are the boys in their coats of blue
Who flew when their eyes were blind
Was God in town for the roman games
Was he there when the deals were signed
Who are the kings in their coats of mail
Who road by the cross to die
Did they all go down into worthiness
Is it wrong for a king to cry
And who are these ones who would have us now
Whose presence in concealed
Whose nature is revealed
In a time bomb
Last of all you old seadogs
Who travel after whale
Youd storm the gates of hell itself
For the taste of a mermaids tail
Who come from long lines of skippers
Whose duty was fulfilled
In the words of a warriors will
And protocol

Villanelle: Blackbird

The freakish cawing from the blackbird’s bill,
In autumn after other birds had fled,
Impaled the air and signaled winter’s chill.

I stood and listened, savoring the thrill
And wondered why the superstitious dread
The freakish cawing from the blackbird’s bill.

Perhaps they’d better reckoned why the shrill,
Outspoken, charcoal guardian of the dead
Impaled the air and signaled winter’s chill.

A witness of the seasons, it could fill
A tome or tomb with woe: I heard, instead,
The freakish cawing from the blackbird’s bill.

The raven’s kin, it played the brazen shill
And, morbid incantations having plead,
Impaled the air and signaled winter’s chill.

But as I yearn to hear the robin’s trill,
I think of when, now comforted in bed,
The freakish cawing from the blackbird’s bill
Impaled the air and signaled winter’s chill.

Get Your Opinions Notarized

Everybody has a right,
To express their own opinions.

'I don't object to that at all.
In fact...
I agree.
But to express my opinions,
To someone else?
And without my authorization?
Is disrespectful.'

Why don't you get your opinions notarized,
From now on!
Or better yet...
Certified as being yours.
And only yours to be expressed.

'I never thought about that.
Thanks!
There is something new to learn everyday.'

~I hope he knows you were joking.~

Did you see the look in his eyes?
Like a kid given a brand new toy.
I couldn't break his heart after witnessing that.
Why didn't you tell me to bring my video cam?

~Who knew?
Usually you have it.
Just in case we run across,
Suspected acts of police brutality.~

The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill

Hey, bungalow bill
What did you kill
Bungalow bill?
He went out tiger hunting with his elephant and gun
In case of accidents he always took his mom
He's the all american bullet-headed saxon mother's son.
All the children sing
Hey bungalow bill
What did you kill
Bungalow bill?
Deep in the jungle where the mighty tiger lies
Bill and his elephants were taken by surprise
So captain marvel zapped in right between the eyes
All the children sing
Hey, bungalow bill
What did you kill
Bungalow bill?
The children asked him if to kill was not a sin
Not when he looked so fierce, his mother butted in
If looks could kill it would have been us instead of him
All the children sing
Hey, bungalow bill
What did you kill
Bungalow bill?
