Do you not see with your own eyes the chrysalis fact assume by degrees the wings of fiction?

That was par for the course but I also found that commissions were being canceled and in fact I considered this directly libelous - I write biographies for a living as well as being a journalist - for a non fiction book to be called fiction from beginning to end.

A Chrysalis
My little Mädchen found one day
A curious something in her play,
That was not fruit, nor flower, nor seed;
It was not anything that grew,
Or crept, or climbed, or swam, or flew;
Had neither legs nor wings, indeed;
And yet she was not sure, she said,
Whether it was alive or dead.
She brought it in her tiny hand
To see if I would understand,
And wondered when I made reply,
"You've found a baby butterfly."
"A butterfly is not like this,"
With doubtful look she answered me.
So then I told her what would be
Some day within the chrysalis:
How, slowly, in the dull brown thing
Now still as death, a spotted wing,
And then another, would unfold,
Till from the empty shell would fly
A pretty creature, by and by,
All radiant in blue and gold.
"And will it, truly?" questioned she--
Her laughing lips and eager eyes
All in a sparkle of surprise--
"And shall your little Mädchen see?"
"She shall!" I said. How could I tell
That ere the worm within its shell
Its gauzy, splendid wings had spread,
My little Mädchen would be dead?
To-day the butterfly has flown,--
She was not here to see it fly,--
And sorrowing I wonder why
The empty shell is mine alone.
Perhaps the secret lies in this:
I too had found a chrysalis,
And Death that robbed me of delight
Was but the radiant creature's flight!

Assume They Lie
Today...
With various masks worn,
To disguise and hide.
Assume people lie.
Even those first introduced.
Assume they lie.
Relieve yourself,
From listening to future excuses.
Until someone has won your trust.
With a thorough scrutiny,
Only time affords one they can safely give up.
Don't try to analyze someone first met.
Assume they lie.
Assume they disrespect.
Assume they gossip like all the rest.
Today...
With various masks worn,
To disguise and hide.
Assume people lie.
When meeting someone fresh upon the scene,
Assume they lie...
Until your honesty and dignity given,
Has not corrupted your willingness to trust.
Don't sit in denial with tears to cry.
Until that time has come,
And you are convinced...
You have met someone different,
Than those who have rushed away...
After crushing your trust.
Assume they lie.
Don't even try to wonder.

The Maze
Time keeps on ticking without fail
As I'm on a downward spiral
Trip to hell
My mind loses grip of reality
While my life, unfocused,
Becomes a mystery
Fact turns to fiction,
And fiction to lies
As darkness invades
The soul of my eyes
Echoes of the past
Infinitely scream out
Drowning my hope
In an ocean of doubt
Overcome be fear
Controlled by rage
Love turns to hate
As I'm lost in this maze

Vulnerabilities
Do not 'assume' I am not aware,
Of the nonsense you pass under my nose.
Or with your doing of it makes it okay.
My eyes and ears are never closed to your doings.
Underestimating with an undermining done,
From the comfort of your couch...
Does not mean you have the keys,
That have opened the door to my vulnerabilities.
Do not 'assume' I am not aware,
Or that I am not prepared...
To use the tools I've learned to entrap fools,
Believing my mind is out to lunch.
Do not 'assume' I am not a collector of fools,
To munch and crunch as a preference.
Nor should you perceive my tolerance level,
To be so high as to allow a sneak to weaken me.
Do not assume I use an approach,
That can be effectively encroached upon.
But I will say this...
Your attempts will teach us both a few lessons.

The Beginning Of Beauty
When rain begins its cold descent from storm clouds up above,
Sometimes such weather can prevent its form we may not love...
So pure white snowflakes come each year in Winters oh so bleak,
Such that new patterns can appear within each one unique...
When butterflies flit to and fro, their wings can make us smile,
Yet from the chrysalis we know, such things display no style.
It's only when these wings have grown, to reach their proper size
That outstetched beauty can be shown by grace that God supplies.
A baby boy may not look cute, drawn from his mother's womb...
With eyes of faith, let's be astute, beyond what thoughts assume.
God sees our lives from start to end, our destinies well known.
Lord Jesus is the Sinner's Friend... No need to live alone.
The Lord who died once shed His Blood... No beauty at that time.
And yet He's called the Lamb Of God, His sacrifice sublime.
His glory now transcends the sun, His light forever shines...
There's beauty in what Christ has done, if we but heed God's signs.

I think young writers should get other degrees first, social sciences, arts degrees or even business degrees. What you learn is research skills, a necessity because a lot of writing is about trying to find information.

Beds Are Burning
Out where the river broke
The bloodwood and the desert oak
Holden wrecks and boiling diesels
Steam in forty five degrees
The time has come
To say fairs fair
To pay the rent
To pay our share
The time has come
A facts a fact
It belongs to them
Lets give it back
How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep when our beds are burning
Four wheels scare the cockatoos
From kintore east to yuendemu
The western desert lives and breathes
In forty five degrees
(live - on scream in blue
The time has come
A facts a fact
It belongs to us all
Lets give it back)

Other Job Descriptions Dished
Whatever it is that you do,
In your pursuit to avoid obstacles...
Do not assume I am also seeking,
Confusion.
I am not!
Or that I should have the patience,
Whenever you have decided...
To dance to another tune,
As often as you wish!
That kind of patience none I've got.
Dealing with indecision,
And those with mixed emotions...
May be depictions of other job descriptions dished!
But I have no agreement made to keep with you,
I would be the one to settle for anything you do.
In fact,
Your latest oral contract that places me on call...
As a default to your nonsense,
I advise you never to me repeat it.
Assume from my mind it has been deleted.

Science Fiction Woman
She was my science fiction woman,
I was her science fiction man,
Yet our love was no fiction
In our science fiction land.
I wore my science fiction spacesuit,
She wore a spacesuit just like mine,
While we were floating together
In our science fiction minds.
She said her name was Taylor Trippy-
A flower child light years beyond-
She was a science fiction hippy-
A spacey and vivacious blonde.
She told me of our global warming,
Greenhouse gases, acid rain,
She told me everything I know
About the structure of the brain.
So we cruised through constellations
In our science fiction ship,
Transcending time and generations-
Forever free, forever hip.
She came from some unknown planet
In some uncharted galaxy,
And we were both kindred souls
In our cosmic fantasy.
And I don't know how I knew her
Or how we came to meet that night-
She was my science fiction woman,
Who traveled at the speed of light.
At night I look upon the ocean,
The distant stars where she might be-
She was my science fiction woman,
Who set my heart forever free.

A pinch of Salt
A title does not signify
you are in fact a gentleman.
Aristocrats can cheat and lie
as readily as any man.
alleged degrees don’t guarantee
that you possess intelligence
They can be purchased easily
by those who lack the common sense
To know that titles and degrees
although intended to impress.
Are counterfeit as currencies
which are in fact quite valueless.
You can’t expect to get respect
because you a titled man.
I see no reason to accept
your claim to be a gentleman.
Some people are fooled easily.
Accept your claims at face value
but some are wise enough to see
that what you claim may not be true.
A scholar and a gentleman
is not too hard to recognise.
I’m’ sure you will find that you can.
If you just use your ears and eyes.
Do not be fooled by their pretence.
The claims they cannot verify
Rely upon your common sense
The inner voice you can’t deny.
Why should you show them your respect.
They show but small respect for you.
Its wiser to be circumspect
until they prove their claims are true.

Our climate is changing. The Earth's climate has, in fact, warmed by 1.1 to 1.6 degrees Fahrenheit since the industrial revolution. People look at this and say: Oh, that is not very much. In fact, it is very much, and it changes the dynamic. It impacts species. It kills some. It diminishes the carbon sink of the ocean. It does a number of things.

Telling Stories
There is fiction in the space between
The lines on your page of memories
Write it down but it doesnt mean
Youre not just telling stories
There is fiction in the space between
You and me
There is fiction in the space between
You and reality
You will do and say anything
To make your everyday life
Seem less mundane
There is fiction in the space between
You and me
Theres a science fiction in the space between
You and me
A fabrication of a grand scheme
Where I am the scary monster
I eat the city and as I leave the scene
In my spaceship I am laughing
In your remembrance of your bad dream
Theres no one but you standing
Leave the pity and the blame
For the ones who do not speak
You write the words to get respect and compassion
And for posterity
You write the words and make believe
There is truth in the space between
There is fiction in the space between
You and everybody
Give us all what we need
Give us one more sad sordid story
But in the fiction of the space between
Sometimes a lie is the best thing
Sometimes a lie is the best thing

Matter
Where is the fact from the ficition?
The fiction from the fact?
Does it matter if I exact, my P's and Q's?
Does it matter that?
Tomorrow I may tell you I love you
And then talk about that,
And how the weather decides to hate you
And me, now that's a fact!
Who cares if tongues that are free to silence
Talk violence?
And still use a chain for liberty!
Forsaking the homeground
The knownground
Where only roots spoil im morality
And the weed always grows
Under the seed of prosperity
And what is fact is fact
And to extract fiction
Is a matter of diction
Who cares if tomorrow
The mother smothers her lover?
Her child sways to the side of the road
Where the blind man crosses
Passes without looking
Turning a blind I to
Her stunted growth
When truth grows on trees
And fruit falls easily
And tomorrow she will tell you
She loved you
Before the root set in to trap
Before her heart was mortgaged to you, by a thread
At a price she could not pay
And After too much rain
Her grief will tell you
Too much hate
And how love is a beautiful rose
A full red thorn
On which too much blood is drawn
And how too many babies born alone
Die in cold alleyways
And fact is just as bad as fiction
The material is immaterial
Squalid leftovers
In overturned sacks of dispair
The rats crawl over the hungry
Without a care
As the beggar turns the wheel
To conceal the sign
Of the time
Stamped on the back of a dirty dime
Dollar for dollar
Pound for pound
And who knows where he will dine?
He rides home in the back of a silver mercedes
He carries a Homeless Sign!
'And I can only tell you, the auto-cue told me these things! '

Some major writers have a huge impact, like Ayn Rand, who to my mind is a lousy fiction writer because her writing has no compassion and virtually no humor. She has a philosophical and economical message that she is passing off as fiction, but it really isn't fiction at all.
