My shoes

My shoes were brought to me on order
from Zimbabwe by a missionary,
a man who sell bibles
and sometimes give them away,
just before Robert Mugabe
did root out the manufacturers and sellers
and the rest of my order went to waste
with another pair of buffalo leather shoes
and a buffalo leather jacket as well.

The black handmade elephant leather shoes
do tread far roads with me,
they try to walk on the tracks
of my deceased father,
try to stand up with integrity
like my late grandmother wanted.

The other day I had them re-soled,
to lay down some more tracks
and the elephant leather
might last a life time
and I wonder how the future
folds open before them?

Well, I wear this leather jacket just to try and beat the cold

The hardest thing about movie acting is that if you're playing a character who changes within the movie, you've got to do that, but you've got to do it out of sequence, because we never have gotten to shoot in sequence, and that's really, really tough.

My favorite thing about being famous... it's not really as big of a deal as everybody says it is. Being on the road is tough, doing interviews, and all the stuff. It's still pretty tough.

I once did a role which I couldn't rehearse in my street clothes, I had to have the character's costume on before I could rehearse it. I just couldn't think as the character unless I looked like him, or I knew that I looked like him.

I didn't know how to kill off a character unless I was able, as a narrator, to get really complicated. Because it was a big deal. I'd never killed a character before.

The First Snow

They spiral down the sky like cotton
So light, dancing and twirling in circles
Creating a cheerful note that spreads
With the winds.The city roads are a maze of
Rutted white interspersed with greyish
Sandy marks of footsteps and hasty
Signatures of motorcycles, bicycles
And cars making their purposeful rides
To all corners of the city. The rail system
Normally running smoothly hits a hitch,
The tracks snow covered needing a shove.
The city suddenly turns out a parade
Of mundane coloured umbrellas,
Leather coats and bags, a monotony made
Less intrusive only by the tasteful choice of
Exotic scarfs folded snugly around
Each neck.The snow falling gently
All over, creating a scene so dear to
An artist who if sufficiently inspired could
Probably turn out his magnum opus to marvel the world!

The Deal To Make Others Happy

i make a deal with myself
everyday i must find a way
to make other people happy

tough deal
but i must: connect the missing
link of love

find the lost photo album
of the spinster

bring the old man at
the metro station
and described to his blindness
the colors that i see
the music that lies in the heart
amidst the noise
of this world

little pleasures of the hands of children
dipping fingers
on the cool water of the creek
by the side of
the big canal
of an old house abandoned
by the couple
that i must make them
to reconnect
on love letters long gone
i must retrieve
what has been fading

there is a lonely man sitting
waiting
i must provide him with another name

tough deal
but worth it, it is.

Anna Likes Razel puppet

Happy to see me and play pretend games,
Anna waited for Razel puppet to play.
Once playing Anna would change Razel's name,
to a Pokemon character in the game.
We would act out this Pokemon character
And then we would stop for a while,
Anna would ask Razel questions like
'Why don't you smile? '
Even Razel puppet was amazed,
as Anna asked questions with a inquisitive gaze.
Then we would go to the playground,
where outside play equipment was all around.
Anna asked me to talk Razel with Razel not on my hand,
I said I couldn't, but now I can.
Razel says 'Hi, Anna how have you been?
It was fun playing with you in 'let's pretend'.
I am still an evil puppet, but that's what I want to be,
There wouldn't be a story to act out for kids
like you once where so long ago with me.'

Pudsy

I still recall our old cattle dog Pudsy
We got her from John Pat Riordan as an eight week old
A black and tan she was as tough as leather
She'd sleep out in the frost and not be cold.

A grand daughter of Jack our old brown war dog
And Pudsy too was one who loved a fight
She never lost a scrap she was too hairy
No other dog into her flesh could bite.

As a cattle dog than Pudsy there was better
Off of the cow's tail she always used to swing
And due to her some cows had their tails bloodied
And a bleeding tail is not a pleasant thing.

She was more of a fighting dog and hunter
And she often took a badger on alone
She had a heart to match her fighting courage
And as a fighting dog she became known.

Though hit by a car she lived to be an old dog
And despite her poor balance she got around
And she even was in dog fights in her old age
And i never see her once pinned to the ground.

I still recall our old cattle dog Pudsy
Though she died more than thirty years ago
She was as tough as leather and a fighter
And she even slept out in the frost and snow.

I loved playing Go Go, because the character's so extreme. And she's pretty close to my real character. Especially the fact that she liked her sword with a lot of accessories.

I need to react to a script, to feel strongly about it in some way. And I need it to be a complex character for sure. And also, I think a lot about what kind of audience there is for the film, what they're looking for and ways to connect with them in the playing of a character.
