You know, my parents have always been incredibly supportive. I'm an only child, so we're very close. There's just the three of us. They're exceptional parents but also great friends. My father was able to take his hobby, photography, and turn it into a beautiful career. So when they saw how much I loved acting, they were 100 percent behind me.

Not hippie - my parents were not hippies - but they were very supportive and encouraging, and that does a lot for someone, and it gives them a lot of confidence.

You wouldn't think it would but my parents were really balanced about that. When it came time for me to be out of the house and out on my own they were very supportive.

Who Must Take Care of Old-aged Parents?
Which child will care for parents when old-aged?
Which child will show compassion and respect?
Which child will find the time to talk kind words?
Which child reciprocates their affection?
Gone are the days of joint family system!
Gone is the sense of values in people!
Gone are the times when blood was quite thicker!
Gone with the wind is honouring parents!
Have parents not showered love on children?
Have they not slogged to give them life's comforts?
Have they not nursed them whenev'r they fell ill?
Have they not done their duties to their kids?
The world today is selfish to the core;
Children just want the wealth of parents old;
None volunteer to tend to old parents;
Children show scarce love to their parents dear!
What has then come upon children today?
Who should take care of parents, elderly?
Should not one's children take care of parents?
Much love seems lost in families these days!

Even now, my husband Jerry, our son Matthew and I live only five minutes away from my parents home, and my brothers live about ten minutes away. It's been great having such a supportive family.

I had very supportive parents that made the way for me, even at a time when there were very few women - no women, really; maybe two or three women - and very few, fewer than that, African-American women heading in this direction, so there were very few people to look up to. You just had to have faith.

When It Hurts Enough To Cry
When it hurts enough to cry,
Like when your parents give you up, and you don't know why.
Parents just like my own,
Didn't want anything to do with me, till I was grown.
Why do some parents give up their kids,
Do they ever regret later that they did?
My parents weren't there through the teen years,
Or seeing me graduate which brought me tears.
I hardly heard I love you son,
When growing up, I can't remember having any fun.
Something my dad said has always stuck in my head,
When I was five he said he wished I was dead.
Doesn't he know my heart was torn?
I never did ask to be born.
Parents are suppose to love their kids,
And it will show later what a good job they did.
They say you can't choose your mom or dad,
Cause if I could I wouldn't be so sad.
But I always remember what Jesus said,
''Always love your mom and dad.''

Confusion
You just cant believe me
When I show you what you mean to me
You just cant believe me
When I show you what you cannot see
Youre hiding from feelings, searching for more
Sharing and hoping, untouched for so long
Our lives still change from the way that we were
And now Ill tell you something I think you should know
You just cant believe me
When I show you what you mean to me
You just cant believe me
When I show you what you cannot see
You cause me confusion, you told me you cared
Hes calling these changes that last to the end
Ask me no questions, Ill tell you no lies
The past is your present, the future is mine
You just cant believe me
When I show you what you mean to me
You just cant believe me
When I show you what you cannot see
You tell me you need me, Ill make it this time
The thread wont divide us, the sensation survives
I was sure that I told you it was good from the face
Youve caused me some problems, youve taken my place
Why cant you see what you mean to me?

Being Supportive
best friends along the way,
how do you let them go?
i been through thick and thin,
how can i be supportive?
i want what's best for them,
but i can't let them go,
i know it selfish to hold them close,
but the chance to never see them again,
is not what i want,
i've been through enough pain,
to last a life time,
could tthat be why i can't let go?
they are what holding me together,
and if they leave,
will i be strong enough to recover?
i know that how i feel,
is not as strong,
as the power to move on,
and try new things,
guess it's time to let go,
and be supportive.

3 Inch Horses, Two Faced Monsters
It's the big show tongue tip tied to the roof of my mouth bad naughty little
angels come rushin' out.
I don't know but I been told you never die and you never grow old.
well.
It's the big show it's big show
Looked like we were photographed at gun point so I had to laugh.
Ha ha.
You said "I hope you live forever." Don't you wish that on me.
You said "don't be clever."
I don't know but I been told you never die and you never grow old.
It's the big show. It's the big show!
Three inch horses watching them drown (in the tar pits).
We're kneeling down.
They see us talking out both sides of our mouths.
Two faced monsters. aaawh.

Who am I
been crying for a day
I haven't found out my place
Why am i here?
What pourpose do i have?
I will never know
I don't know why i do the things i do
I don't know why i mess up
I was told if lifes a struggle then you're doing it right
But why me?
I don't want life to be so hard
I'm sick of making my parents disappointed in me
I need to change
don't know how
never asked for help before
it's something i hate doing
you show weakness if you ask for help
i've grown up being told don't show weakness
even crying is
this girl that walks around is me but she isn't really me
the real me is dead and won't ever return
she said goodbye the first night i drank again
she said goodbye after johnathan said he needed space
this girl that you see is just an image trying to get through life
i wish this wasn't me but i don't know how to tell you any different
this has been me for the longest time
not a day goes by that i don't think about ending it all
Who am I?
i'm so lost i need to be found

She Never Told Me She Was A Mime
When we first met she seemed perfectly normal
I never dreamed shed make my life so hard
You see, my baby, she started to change
Started lookin kinda strange
Wearin all that white makeup and those black leotards
Well, I guess she kept her little secret pretty well
Now, ever since I learned the horrible truth, you know my life has been a living hell
Thats right, you see...
She never told me she was a mime
She never told me she was a mime, oh no
Actin like shes trapped inside a big glass box all the time
She never told me, she never told me whe was a...
Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mime
I wish we both could just talk it all over
But my baby wont even make a sound
Now she makes everybody sick
Doin that pantomime shtick
Even our old friends have stopped coming around
Well, mmy parents cant stand her and our neighbors hate her guts
Shes really, really embarrassing me... this silent treatments driving me nuts
You see...
She never told me she was a mime
She never told me she was a mime, oh no
Now shes actin like shes trapped inside a big glass box all the time... what a crime
She never told me (she never told me) she never told me she was a mime
She walks against the wind everywhere we go
Stops at every corner, gotta put on a show
Carries round a picture of marcel marceau
Always the wuiet type, but how was I know to know?
She never told me she was a mime
She never told me she was a mime, oh no
Actin like shes trapped inside a big glass box all the ti-yi-yi-yi-yi-yi-yime
She never told me, she never told me whe was a mime

Let My Record Show
Although I might deal with deceit,
And did some individual wrong.
Just let my record show,
I can still sing my song.
My advice wasn’t always innoxious,
When I was required to be bright.
But let my record show,
I told all what was basically right.
At times I may have told a woman
That her beauty left no doubt.
Still let my record show,
I only tried to ask her out.
Occasionally I may have reaped,
Where someone else had seeded.
However let my record show,
I took no more than what was needed.
It may be through lack of care,
I caused someone terror or pain.
But let my record show,
Never did I, ‘cause in it is no gain.

Happy Days was about a family... although the show was shot in the 70s, it was about a family in the 50s. I realized that kids were watching their parents grow up and the parents were watching themselves grow up. That was the key to the success of our show.
