Being solitary is being alone well: being alone luxuriously immersed in doings of your own choice, aware of the fullness of your won presence rather than of the absence of others. Because solitude is an achievement.

0007 Rilke on Solitude
If you notice that solitude is great,
rejoice because of this.
For what would solitude be
that had no greatness? There is
but one solitude, and that is great,
and not easy to bear,
and to almost everybody come hours
when they would gladly erxchange it for any sort of intercourse,
however banal and cheap; with the first comer,
with the unworthiest...
but perhaps those are the very hours
when solitude grows, for
its growing is as painful as the growing of boys
and sad as the beginning of springtimes.
To be solitary, the way one was solitary as a child,
when the grownups went around involved with things
that seemed important and big
because they themselves looked so busy
and because one comprehended nothing of their doings.
Be close to things; they will not desert you;
there are the nights still
and the winds that go through the trees
and across many lands;
among things and with the animals
everything is still full of happening
in which you may participate;
and children are still the way you were as a child,
sad like that and happy,
- and if you think of your childhood
you live among them again.

Involuntary Solitude
How is
Involuntary solitude, the abyss,
Different in temperament
From solitary confinement?
Involuntary solitude
Bothersome with certitude.
Solitary confinement
Painful with infinitude.
Involuntary solitude
Taken advantage of, by some.
Solitary confinement
Feared by all and one.

Solitary Man
Sometimes I feel like a solitary man.
Under the night sky writing what I can.
No one else is moving or driving cars.
The world belongs to me under the stars.
While pondering in my solitude
Without a thought or plan,
Thoughts jump into the mind
Of this solitary man.
I don't know where they come from.
They are just my own surprise.
Sometimes I'd swear that they have come
Through a different set of eyes.
In prison I know that solitary
Can drive a person mad.
But in those I once sent there,
For the solitude they seem glad.
The Lord needed His solitude
For at one time forty days.
And again when in the garden,
Where for the souls of men He prayed.
So in my time of solitude
I also have time to pray.
It's when I feel the closest,
To Him in my night each day!

(V – 2010) The Serenity of Solitude
At times lonely
When we go for a solitary walk
Down the silent valley of solitude:
As we whisper a casual word
It echoes back to us with a renewed energy!
That’s the serenity of solitude.
As we throw a casual glance
It captures for us a hitherto unseen beauty!
That’s the serenity of solitude.
As we touch a casual thought
It blooms before us as profound poetry!
That’s the serenity of solitude.
At times busy
Something entices us to take a solitary walk –
That’s the serenity of solitude!
Her absence too enthuses.
When I shared her presence, I was in exuberance.
When I left her, her absence kept me in excellence,
As I mediated on the essence of her presence,
Experienced in our romance, a rare occurrence.
Her presence and absence are charging me alike.

Single By Choice
Single by choice
Never marry, never ever divorce
Listen to the solitary voice
Tell you Im single by choice
Single by choice
Never marry, never ever divorce
Listen to the solitary voice
Tell you Im single by choice
I know what youre thinking
She cant be complete
til the right kind of man
Come sweep her off her feet
Well Ive been there before
Times four or times five
With the right kind of man
Barely made it out alive
Single by choice
Never marry, never ever divorce
Listen to the solitary voice
Tell you Im single by choice
Alone but not lonely
Never marry, never ever divorce
Listen to the solitary voice
Tell you Im single by choice
I know what youre thinking
She cant be complete
til the right kind of man
Come sweep her off her feet
Well Ive been there before
Times four or times five
With the right kind of man
Got love in my day
And I dont waste one moment
Wishing it awya

Get Connected Marvin
it is not bad to be alone
taking a grip of yourself like your hands embracing your body
the closeness of the self to yourself
it is not bad either to get connected
to your loved ones
they make you grow as they affirm your goodness
they make you fulfill your essence
to be alone and step in your room
and yet to be with the world
and become part of the universe
this is what we are doing here
in cyberspace
alone and yet alone to many
there is no harm marvin
there is so much good
this solitude in the modern sense
you touch the world without even one of it touching you
this choice of absence and yet this universality of our
inevitable presence

Verb Of The Spirit
peace is not
the absence of war...
it is the presence
of life in all
of it's fullness!
never won by
guns and bombs...
achieved by letting go
of fear and ignorance.
peace begins within,
and then spreads,
when actions meet
the true heart's intent.
peace is a verb
of the spirit...
the answer to
the question not asked!

In Solitude
In solitude I remain
With absolutely nothing to gain
Perhaps in time I will be strong
You see! Solitude is not my favourite song
A solitary place
Is not where I belong
Read my lips and trace the lines on my face
You see! Solitude is not my favourite song
But social isolation
Combined with social manipulation
Places me once again in solitude
You see! Solitude is not my preferred attitude
This isn’t a journey of spiritual enlightenment
As some people might say to my resentment
But in great loneliness of this magnitude
I must find some self awareness in solitude
I must find strength and pretend
That everyone around me is my friend
To put this state of scale of elevation to an end
I must pretend, I must pretend
That even Solitude is my friend

With Their Doings Done
Some feel free to be sadistic,
With doings done.
And the having of fun.
Idealistic realists,
With doings done.
And a wanting of truth to appear and come.
And they who are minimalists,
Try to reduce materialistic wishes...
With doings undone seeking to do.
Some feel free to be sadistic,
With doings done.
And the having of fun.
Idealistic realists,
With doings done.
And a wanting of truth to appear and come
And they who are minimalists,
Try to reduce materialistic wishes...
With doings undone seeking to do.
Many have slowed their paces...
With their doings done.
Doings done.
Eliminating their rat races...
With their doings done.
Doings done.
And celebrating tasting life...
As if a piece of cake,
To savor.
Many have slowed their paces...
With their doings done.
Doings done.
Eliminating their rat races...
With their doings done.
Doings done.
And celebrating tasting life...
As if a piece of cake,
To savor.
Many have slowed their paces,
With a tasting of life to savor.
Many have slowed their paces,
With a tasting of life to savor.
Many have slowed their paces,
With a tasting of life to savor.
Many have slowed their paces,
With their doings done.
Doings done.
Many have slowed their paces,
With their doings done.
Many have slowed their paces,
With a tasting of life to savor...
And with their doings done.

Learn Ramdas!
Learn Ramdas,
if one is either lost in the
memories of past which are dead
or
lost in thinking about unborn
future, surely one is absent in the
present!
living in the present,
is presence of mind,
living in the past or future is
absence of mind.... Just like Shakunthala lost in
memories got cursed,
for absence of mind!
Every moment we encounter
with various forces of nature,
we get cursed, for absence of mind,
either by imperfect souls,
or imperfect gods
or demons
those are one with
natural forces! Presence of mind and absence of
mind,
let us know which is more
helpful!

Autonomy
I am living without you because
of a terror, a farfetched
notion that I
can't live without you
which I must narrow down & quell,
for how can I live
worthy of you, in the
freedom of you limber engagements,
in the casual uptakes of your
sweetest compliances
if stricken in your presence
by what your absence stills:
to have you, I school myself
to let you go; how terrible
to buy that absence
before the fragrance of any presence comes:
but though I am living without
you, surely
I can't live
without you: the thought of
you hauls my heavy
body up,
floats me around,
gives my motions point, just the thought.

One’s presence immaterial
In your absence, in absence
of rejection, I felt not lonely.
In your presence, by indifference,
You drive me out to be lonely.

Solitude I &II
Joined in blood and ancestry to the
absurdity of your impetuous absence
are the cryptic crisscrossing lines
or the eddies of your detached dandelion
your way of seeing conceiving solitude
but that was 2002 and you bore me in 2007
so its not me it’s the other guy
we never talked about
adding to the ravages of your wasteland
this reptile! gnawing at your innards
at right angles -you know I hate maths! !
but then I remember something
that you never told me
its about that absence
the mauves, the grays and blues
all of me and none of you

The absence
Your presence has left,
Leaving in me an absence.
Your silence since leaving
Is causing disturbance.
The shadow behind your back
Show you to me in limelight.
You lure more by absence
With no cure for my penance.

Solitude, Singing
Being alone is knowing
That in in this solitary splendour
Solitude, stark and staring,
Solitude, singing a lullaby
Solitude, singing a dirge
Surrounded by so many sundry things;
Things seen and unseen
Factors known and unknown
Solitude singing softly, chanting without ranting
Solitude’s songs that sing of solemn things
Silence singing golden songs
Silence healing ancient wrongs
If only silence could be
More than a memory
More than history
Silence can be more than words
Empty words echoing in an empty world
Echoing in empty valleys
Silence unspoken, unspoken, unbroken
Transfixed by time.

Solitary Man
Melinda was mine
til the time
That I found her
Holding jim
Loving him
Then sue came along
Loved me strong
Thats what I thought
Me and sue
But that died too
Dont know that I will
But until I can find me
A girl wholl stay
And wont play games behind me
Ill be what I am
A solitary man
Solitary man
Ive had it to here
Bein where
Loves a small world
Part-time thing
Paper ring
I know its been done
Having one
Girl who loves you
Right or wrong
Weak or strong
Dont know that I will
But until I can find me
The girl wholl stay
And wont play games behind me
Ill be what I am
A solitary man
Solitary man

Silence Oceans
Oceans of life,
Oceans in one's life
are wonderful,
Heart is one ocean
Brain is another ocean,
mind is the third,
Trifles are fourth,
Intelligence and wit make fifth,
wisdom and knowledge sixth,
God and Love are seventh!
Soul is the land,
Raised above these oceans
And look as their shore,
Every instant a wave of thought hits the shore!
High tides of happiness,
low tides of sorrow,
High tides of success,
Low tides of failure hit the shore!
Ego is that wind blowing,
Desires and pride are changing gravity
cause wave and tide!
Sometimes disappointment,
Or hurt ego,
can create storm and tsunami!
Silence in solitude,
become grand solitude,
Takes one to that altitude,
everything is cool in love and gratitude,
Peace incarnate in multitude,
In that great solitude,
When wind stops,
and become still,
When there is no movement Of Sun and Moon,
When everything comes to still,
No waves, no tides,
ocean meets shore, all in love,
No raising or falling tides,
No roar of chasing waves,
That is that grand silence,
Silence of All oceans,
When no bird fly or sing,
When no events,
they are
Time's own parents,
And time give birth to
Three tenses,
Past and future
compress the present,
Now lose pressure,
Present expands to eternal!
All merge in present
One is present in present tense only,
Both presence and absence,
Merge in that grand existence,
That is the grand silence,
That is the solitude,
Where no one to disturb,
Nothing can disturb,
Soul is immersed in the universal soul,
Mind goes out of universe and sees the grand truth,
Truth is that truth,
no false can never reach,
No false can never touch,
Universe infinite is not even atomic,
Because mind itself has grown,
fantastic and gigantic,
No atlantic, no antarctic,
Only ocean remains,
peaceful pacific
No reason to love,
No reason to hate,
No one can touch,
No arms can harm,
Listen to that drummer,
Beats drum continuously,
AUM AUM AUM,
Now in that silence of absolute solitude,
No drum, no AUM,
No drummer,
No judge's hammer,
No eternal vibration,
As one become one's own master!

White poem
Your teeth have a painful shine,
Your smile is sad
In the absence of words.
You become aware of deeper parts of yourself
You become aware of the much greater wound in your soul...
Where only white descend for love,
Making us realize that,
Only through love and pain, together,
We are able to become eternal and
We are able of asceticism.

Solitude, in the sense of being often alone, is essential to any depth of meditation or of character and solitude in the presence of natural beauty and grandeur, is the cradle of thought and aspirations which are not only good for the individual, but which society could ill do without.
