It had more layers than an onion. These writers meant business. There was a level for everybody. Your major could be celestial mechanics, and there'd be celestial-mechanics jokes.

No One Wants To Listen To Him
Why are those people screaming,
At the driver of the vehicle?
He didn't cause the wheels to fall off.
I thought they hired full time mechanics,
To monitor the safety of it.
'They do have full time mechanics.'
Shouldn't they be the ones found,
To be at fault for the wheels falling off?
That is in 'their' area of expertise.
I would think.
'Yeah. I agree.
However...
Here is the dilemma.
You see...
They were not hired because they were qualified.
They were hired because they had the look,
And the presence of being mechanics.
Now...
Those that actually had qualifications,
Were denied because they knew the driver...
And supported his position as the best driver around.'
Oh?
But still,
It makes no sense to hold the driver responsible.
'That has been the argument of the driver.
And he has been the one,
Trying to keep the passengers together.
To get the mechanics that were hired,
To at least make attempts...
To get them all back on the road.
But no one wanted to listen to him,
To get the vehicle fixed.
And yet...
They want to convince everyone within listening distance,
That the driver is the reason they are in their present predicament.'
Perhaps they have other reasons and motivations to blame him.
'Oh. you mean the obvious? '
What other reason could they have?
And who are those other people,
Welding the wheels to the frame of the vehicle?
They 'look' as if they are foreigners.
'They claim they just arrived from overseas.
On a sightseeing vacation.
And volunteered their services for free.'
Aren't you a bit suspicious about that?
'Who me?
I could care less who does what to who and why.
I don't mind walking to my destinations.
I have things I want to get done and do,
With my life.'
Why are those foreigners winking at you?
'I have no clue.
Maybe they are overhearing our conversation.'

Totem
Words by neil peart, music by geddy lee and alex lifeson
Ive got twelve disciples and a buddha smile
The garden of allah, viking valhalla
A miracle once in a while
Ive got a pantheon of animals in a pagan soul
Vishnu and gaia --- aztec and maya
Dance around my totem pole
I believe in what I see
I believe in what I hear
I believe that what Im feeling
Changes how the world appears
Angels and demons dancing in my head
Lunatics and monsters underneath my bed
Media messiahs preying on my fears
Pop culture prophets playing in my ears
Ive got celestial mechanics
To synchronize my stars
Seasonal migrations --- daily variations
World of the unlikely and bizarre
Ive got idols and icons, unspoken holy vows
Thoughts to keep well-hidden ---
Sacred and forbidden
Free to browse among the holy cows
Thats why I believe
Angels and demons inside of me
Saviors and satans all around me
Sweet chariot, swing low, coming for me

Not About This
It is not about the classic rivers
of mythology, not about Acheron,
river of woe with its lines of unemployed
holding their migraines in their hands.
Or Cocytus, river of lamentation
where the elderly have gone
to grieve their condition.
It cannot be this.
Not the river of fire,
the lava flowing from another volcanic shudder
into the homes of the living & the dead,
& into the stories of new generations.
For these are byproducts,
shining as they are-
It is not about the river of forgetfulness,
inviting as the night visits the tortured mind.
No, not this, or the waters of hate
& the butchered bodies stacked along shorelines
& the lost women trying to find their sons,
or the river of return,
not the red river of consolation
wound about the heart
& through the vineyards,
or how our loves came to be,
then left us again to ourselves.
It is not about the oldest & saddest river,
the river of time, with flashes of metallic film
sliding by, gathering momentum
& the sufaces of faces,
the faces of phantoms,
(I have seen myself among them.)
It cannot be about theology,
or if it is, it is the theology of celestial mechanics,
the giant narrative of everything,
the source of energy, (& its forms,)
crunching itself out through the heavens.
