But I was in awe of the painters; I mean I was new in New York, and I thought the painting that was going on here was just unbelievable.

Now almost every artist outside of New York is connected with some school or some museum school, and even in New York the majority are. That's an interesting fact when you take the idea of making money, making a living selling paintings. Only a dozen or two painters do that.

New York Times

New york poor new york
New york poor new york
Cars choking your child to death
But you dont wanna see
Cause you only think about yourself
How blind can you be
New york poor new york
Sniper on the rooftop new york
New york poor new york
Not fit for a dog in new york
Everybody bites on the big apple
Leave the hungry in tears
But no one gives a damn no one really cares
How they feel theyre just paper people not real
You need a gun to walk into new york
Now youre broke and youre out on a ledge
Who can help you this time
Now youre down to your very last cent
Still youre askin me who was your friend
I was your friend
New york poor new york
Who turned the lights out in new york
New york poor new york
Just another blackout in new york
Girl dead on the 26th floor
But no one knew her name
Found her body behind the door
Too young for the game
New york poor new york
Devils in the subway new york
New york poor new york
New york poor new york
Talkin talkin talkin - watch out
Harlem touching midtown new york
New york poor new york
Talkin bout new york new york
Moneys getting tighter new york
Theyre burning the bridges to new york

New York Woman

It was getting dark in a snow-covered park,
I thought I saw you smiling.
You left town to marry a texas millionaire,
I wonder how you are doing.
You were a new york woman,
New york woman,
New york woman,
I love you.
I heard him on the air discussing world affairs,
And something about his global vision.
Thats when I wondered if you made the right decision,
I want to know what youre thinking.
You were a new york woman,
New york woman,
New york woman,
I miss you.
You were a new york woman,
New york woman,
New york woman,
I miss you.
I miss you,
I miss you,
I miss you,
I miss you, my friend.
I miss you,
Oh, I miss you,
Oh, I miss you,
Oh, I miss you.

Do you believe me?

So many people
Bad or good you might have seen
But surely not me!

I'm unbelievable

I really believe.

In you and me
The unbelievable potentiality
Do you believe me?

Unbelievable

Its unbelievable, its strange but true,
Its inconceivable it could happen to you.
You go north and you go south
Just like bait in the fishs mouth.
Ya must be livin in the shadow of some kind of evil star.
Its unbelievable it would get this far.
Its undeniable what theyd have you to think,
Its indescribable it can drive you to drink.
They said it was the land of milk and honey,
Now they say its the land of money.
Who ever thought they could ever make that stick.
Its unbelievable you can get this quick.
Bridge #1:
Every head is so dignified, every moon is so sanctified,
Every urge is so satisfied as long as youre with me.
All the silver, all the gold, all the sweethearts you can hold
That dont come back with stories untold, are hanging on a tree.
Its unbelievable like a lead balloon,
Its so impossible to even learn the tune.
Kill that beast and feed that swine,
Scale that wall and smoke that vine,
Feed that horse and saddle up the drum.
Its unbelievable, the day would finally come.
Bridge #2:
Once there was a man who had no eyes,
Every lady in the land told him lies,
He stood beneath the silver skies
And his heart began to bleed.
Every brain is civilized,
Every nerve is analyzed,
Everything is criticized when you are in need.
Its unbelievable, its fancy-free,
So interchangeable, so delightful to see.
Turn your back, wash your hands,
Theres always someone who understands
It dont matter no more what you got to say
Its unbelievable it would go down this way.

New York

In New York freedom looks like
Too many choices
In New York I found a friend
To drown out the other voices

Voices on a cell phone
Voices from home
Voices of the hard sell
Voices down a stairwell
In New York
Just got a place in New York

In New York summers get hot
Well into the hundreds
You can walk around the block
Without a change of clothing

Hot as a hair dryer in your face
Hot as a handbag and a can of mace
New York
I just got a place in New York

A Heart In New York

New york
To your tall skyline I come
Flying in from london
To your door
New york
Lookin down on central park
Where they say you should not wander
After dark
New york
Like a scene from all those movies
But youre real enough to me
But theres a heart
A heart that lives in new york
A heart in new york
A rose on the street
I write my song to that city heartbeat
A heart in new york
Love in her eye
An open door and a friend for the night
New york
You got money on your mind
And my words dont make a dimes
Worth a difference
So heres to you new york
New york
Now my plane is touching down

Painters

In the cave with a long-ago flare
a woman stands, her arms up. Red twig, black twig, brown twig.
A wall of leaping darkness over her.
The men are out hunting in the early light
But here in this flicker, one or two men, painting
and a woman among them.
Great living animals grow on the stone walls,
their pelts, their eyes, their sex, their hearts,
and the cave-painters touch them with life, red, brown, black,
a woman among them, painting.

New York

New York, New York
A city that breathes endlessly
Dollars are spent carelessly
New York, New York
A city of squares and blocks
And the Stars roll and rock
While tourist flock
Like sheep cornered in squares

Entertainment, clubs and theatres
Is all that seems to matter
Twenty four seven
Alive in heaven

New York
A taxi takes you round and round the blocks
I end up in Madison Square
Where I started out twenty minutes before
But who cares?
This is New York
Every where there are open doors

New York, New York
A city that never sleeps
Everywhere you must leave a tip
But this city is worth the trip
New York, New York
A city of numbers and avenues
And elongated queues

It is true
I see now, I know now
About what they say about New York!

All The Critics Love U In New York

U can dance if U want 2
All the critics love U in New York
U don't have 2 keep the beat
They'll still think it's neat in New York

U can wear what U want 2
It doesn't matter in New York
U could cut off all your hair
I don't think they'd care in New York

All the critics love U in New York

Why U can play what U want 2
All the critics love U in New York
They won't say that U're naive
If U play what U believe in New York

Purple love-amour is all U're in it 4
But don't show it
The reason that U're cool
Is cuz U're from the old school and they know it

All the critics love U in New York

U can dance if U want 2
All the critics love U in New York
U can dance if U want 2
All the critics love U in New York

All the critics love U

The Canvas (Part 2)

We last left off with such the fright,
She paints—but gasp! —that's not quite right,
For every story has a twist,
And every painting is done on her wrist.

She paints with—sorry? —with little regard,
To what may bleed and what may scar,
But oh, she paints a lovely spar,
Despite the way that most things are.

Some find it funny and watch as she flees,
Others feel sick the moment they see,
Because a painter, she can't have much of a life,
If all of her painting is done with a knife.

This painter—in fact—she thinks she's alone,
Because of the burden of problems at home,
And then there's her mind, a nasty old place,
It's mostly the cause of the paintings she makes.

But one can be trapped, or one can be freed,
Though most painters like her find this hard to believe,
Yet this very painter broke free of her sadness,
And if she ever wonders 'why? ' she can look at her canvas.
