Being a full time coach doesn't mean that we practice more than other teams. In fact we have strict regulations about the length of our practices and playing season. The academic schedule here means that I rarely have a full team at any one practice!

Practice Every Step
Practice every step.
Do not second guess what it takes.
Practice every step.
Practice every step.
There's no sleeping for someone who has a place to go,
So...
Practice every step.
Practice every step.
Focus on that goal,
And tighten on your hold,
And...
Practice every step.
Practice every step.
Practice every step.
Do not second guess what it takes.
Practice every step.
Practice every step.
Every journey taken,
Must be thought of as a race...
And,
Practice every step.
Practice every step.
There's no other way to straighten out a crooked road,
So...
Practice every step.
Practice every step.
No matter what you're told,
There will be some doubts and woes...
But you,
Practice every step.
Yes you,
Practice every step.
Woes you hold will eventually go,
So...
Practice every step.
Practice every step.
Practice every step.
Practice every step.

Water Prize
The girls varsity swimming team at Trinity High School in NYC has just completed an undefeated season and won the All-Ivy meet. This is dedicated to their excellent coach and team.
Water, water everywhere - but not the kind to drink;
the arid lands of Trinity sports forces one to think:
will we find the focus, so truly we can say,
'we give our all at every practice, every meet, on every day...'
Or are we disconnected and slightly out-of-sync?
On the stormy sea of swimming, an ardent coach supplies,
a simple set of precepts that to life and sports applies.
Hard work! performance! who can get the win? !
Focus on the present; forget the might-have-been.
And thus achieve the greatness, of capturing the Prize.

Practice means to perform, over and over again in the face of all obstacles, some act of vision, of faith, of desire. Practice is a means of inviting the perfection desired.

In life it wasn't what you know, but who you know. I had people who were trying to buy teams and had they bought the teams, I would have gotten to coach because they wanted me to coach. But the people who have the teams hire their friends.

I know you've heard it a thousand times before. But it's true - hard work pays off. If you want to be good, you have to practice, practice, practice. If you don't love something, then don't do it.

Practice Maker Perfect
D. roberts / e. gold
If practice makes perfect
Lets try that old embrace
In some romantic place
Where we can take out time
If practice makes perfect
Just close you eyes again
Well try those sights again
And make them more sublime
Were in loves kindergarden
Learning from a to z
And if its fun just starting
Think what its going to be
If practice makes perfect
Lets have that kiss again
We mustn miss again
Were not doing bad right now
Were not doing bad
Lets practice some more
Were not doing bad right now

Who Practices Abstinence
There's always talk about...
The getting of sex.
There's always talk about...
An innocence to protect.
And there's always talk about...
What children will do next,
If they don't ignore temptation...
And practice abstinence.
Who practices abstinence...
When the meaning's lean on doing.
And who practices abstinence...
When we're marketed to be teased,
To please...
The senses,
With a pleasure to release.
Who practices abstinence.
Who practices abstinence.
There's always talk about...
The getting of sex.
Yet...
Who practices abstinence.
Yet who practices abstinence.
There's always talk about...
An innocence to protect.
Yet...
Who practices abstinence.
Yet who practices abstinence.
When the meaning's lean on doing.
And who practices abstinence...
When we're marketed to be teased,
To please...
The senses,
With a pleasure to release.
Who practices abstinence.
Who practices abstinence.
Who practices abstinence.
Who practices abstinence.

Not Only a Practice But a Fact
My attachment to God
Is not only a practice but a fact.
God and I have been very close...
I do not question my faith.
Nor do I seldom stay in heartbreak.
Not these days and not for long.
Not as long as I know,
My faith in God...
Keeps me strong.
My attachment to God,
Is not only a practice but a fact.
I don't have to be self righteous!
God knows my habits.
I can not hide them behind God's back.
There is no sense in that!
Whatever this is where I am,
That gives me a consciousness to understand.
I only have to be myself.
And the more I accept it,
The taller of a man I stand!

The Click
Someone please tell me why
favortism is still running rampid
oh coach, oh coach
just play my kid
I don't make a lot of cash
I'm not the middle class
Your team is not going to win
Anything
They're just freshman, for petes sake
play them all equally
they all practice together
through the howling winds of change
through all the nasty weather
You were ahead fifty freaking points
yet you put back in the starting five
with only a few minutes to go
what were you thinking
that decision
so rude, sow low
there are more things in life
that trying to be impressive
with your coaching philosophy
it's ignorant thinking
as far as I can see
Most of all these starting five
whined that there teamates even got in
just as there parents
born without
sin

Get Your Spirit Right
Practice.
Active,
Prayer...
Everyday,
You can!
Be active in the practice,
Of prayer...
Everyday.
You can!
Care less about the he said,
Or she said...
Conflicting pickers of fights.
They'll keep you awake with sleepless nights.
Be true to your practice,
In active...
Prayer,
Everyday.
You can!
Erratic tactics,
Keep captive...
With distractions,
To minimize your pride.
Don't worry about their appetites...
For doing things the wrong way.
You stay on the side of what's right,
Now!
Practice.
Active,
Prayer...
Everyday,
You can!
Be active in the practice,
With swift actions of your prayers...
Everyday.
You can!
Get your spirit right!
Let backbiters do what they do.
You can choose not to approve!
Just keep your practice,
Active...
In prayer,
Everyday.
You can!
Don't worry about their appetites...
For doing things the wrong way.
You stay on the side of what's right,
Now!
Practice.
Active,
Prayer...
Everyday,
You can!

Am I a Pessimist?
Am I a pessimist?
Not at all!
I had viewed my 'cup' as being half full.
But I do admit...
I now mind my business.
When I see a 'mack' truck approaching someone,
And they are clueless?
I use to warn them.
They use to return those warnings with attitude!
Now I turn my head...
And enjoy a full cup these days!
It's comforting knowing I can just walk away!
Afterall...
I've been told I am too intense.
But it is difficult holding a full cup steady!
With practice,
I am sure I will be fine!
