This time at Birmingham turned me into a general biologist, and ever since then I have always tried to take a biological approach to any research project that I have undertaken.

Half-jokingly, I asked what was wrong with me. So we made a deal: I would run his biological research provided I had a free hand to run my new project.

Birmingham
Got a wife, got a family
Earn my livin with my hand
Im a roller in a steel mill
In downtown birmingham
My daddy was a barber
And a most unsightly man
He was born in tuscaloosa
But he died right here in birmingham
Chorus
Birmingham, birmingham
The greatest city in alabam
You can travel cross this entire land
But theres no place like birmingham
Wifes named mary
But shes called marie
We live in a three room house
With a pepper tree
I work all day in the factory
Thats alright with me
Got a big black dog
Whose name is dan
Lives in my backyard in birmingham
He is the meanest dog in alabam
Get em dan

For me, every day is a new thing. I approach each project with a new insecurity, almost like the first project I ever did. And I get the sweats. I go in and start working, I'm not sure where I'm going. If I knew where I was going I wouldn't do it.

Peace Proposal
Said General Clay to General Gore really must we fight this silly war
To kill and die in such a bore I quite agree said General Gore
Said General Gore to General Clay we could go to the beach today
And have some icecream on the way a grand idea said General Clay
Said General Clay to General Gore we'll build sand castles on the shore
Said General Gore we'll splash and play let's leave right now said General Clay
Said General Gore to General Clay but what if the sea's closed today
And what if the sand's been blown away the dreadful thought said General Clay
Said General Gore to General Clay I've always feared the ocean's spray
And we may drown it's true we may it chills my blood said General Clay
Said General Clay to General Gore my bathin' suit is slightly tore
We better go on with our war I quite agree said General Gore
The General Clay chanrged General Gore as bullets flew and cannons roared
And now at last there is no more of General Clay or General Gore

The Generals
Said General Clay to General Gore,
'Oh must we fight this silly war?
To kill and die is such a bore.'
'I quite agree,' said General Gore.
Said General Gore to General Clay,
'We could go to the beach today
And have some ice cream on the way.'
'A grand idea,' said General Clay.
Said General Gore to General Clay,
'But what if the sea is closed today?
And what if the sand's been blown away?'
'A dreadful thought,' said General Clay.
Said General Gore to General Clay,
'I've always feared the ocean's spray,
And we may drown!' 'It's true, we may.
It chills my blood,' said General Clay.
Said General Clay to General Gore,
'My bathing suit is slightly tore.
We'd better go on with our war.'
'I quite agree,' said General Gore.
Then General Clay charged General Gore
As bullets flew and cannons roared.
And now, alas! there is no more
Of General Clay or General Gore.

In Darwin's time all of biology was a black box: not only the cell, or the eye, or digestion, or immunity, but every biological structure and function because, ultimately, no one could explain how biological processes occurred.

Courage and Nerve
There is much more depth,
Than what those have selected to project.
Much more than you suspect,
That reveals an introspectiveness.
There is much beneath the surface.
And upon your research this you will observe.
Some of it serves an embitteredness.
And a lot of it takes courage and nerve.
There is much more depth,
Than what those have selected to project.
Much more than you suspect,
That reveals an introspectiveness.
There is nothing hidden.
Or begged to be forgiven.
There is nothing exposed stripped of reality.
If a pain is expressed it is felt and believed.
There is much beneath the surface.
And upon your research this you will observe.
Some of it serves an embitteredness.
And a lot of it takes courage and nerve.

When Jesus Left Birmingham
When jesus left birmingham
All the disciples went crazy
When jesus left birmingham
All the people went completely nuts
They all busted out on a wild night
Riding high on a golden calf
When jesus left birmingham
All the people had themselves a big long laugh
Well my girl, shes a walker
And she can talk herself out of any mess
My girl, she dont pray
But somehow she seems still to be blessed
And when those crazy nights come callin
Man, shell dance on the tables
Like all of the rest
When my girl left birmingham
She was doing what she thought was best
Its all free on the inside
I passed a very uncomfortable feeling last night
Save us right now, we need you...
To hell with all the lies and liars
Recovery, recovery, I dont know about any recovery
Inside, gotta get inside
Inside
I see myself with a rosary
Im in a garden and Im talking to myself
I aint sayin much worth repeating
Just askin for forgiveness and all of his best
When those crazy nights come callin
Man, Im just as human as I can be
When jesus left birmingham
He left it there for you and me
When jesus left birmingham
He left it there for you and me
So let it rock, let it roll
Let the Bible belt come and save my soul
(repeat out.)

DNA Stargate
I give in, in light of the evidence, I have to
admit telepathy to be real, biological Inter-
net communication seems natural among
everybody – just allow me to add that
Real knowledge do not seem to transfer
through the instinctual system, I am only
aware of emotions and feelings, state of
mind - information remains obscure
I am hooked on feeling and atmosphere,
love my job not because of what we do,
translating such boring texts, but for the
magical atmosphere created by
My lovable and loving colleagues, to work
for Pollyanna who puts a positive spin on
everything, have a Mme La Pompadour
for excitement and a caring Wendy
Now let me introduce the information found
on the Internet - my DNA does not receive
data automatically by supernatural CD as
some zealous psychics claim…
Russian biophysicist and molecular biologist
Pjotr Garjajev’s cutting-edge research on our
esoteric DNA to determine a purpose for the
90% of it which seems superfluous
Vernetzte Intelligenz, Grazyna Fosar & Franz
Bludorf - Baerbel-translated - explains remote
healing, intuition, affirmation techniques, clair-
voyance, unusual auras around gurus
and mind’s influence on weather patterns; are
caused by DNA patterns in vacuum producing
wormholes magnetized, miniature equivalents
of bridges near star burn-out known as
black holes; forming tunnels which transmit
information outside time and space as DNA
attracts and sends information bits to human
consciousness - hyper-communication -
Inter-dimensional information downloaded via a
DNA stargate - psychics exchange complex
ideas through invisible DNA networks which
cover large distances - thus this explains
Telepathy, sensing the state of far-off relatives,
how animals know at what time owners plan to
come home - the phenomena are interpreted as
hyper communication & group consciousness
Illustrated by phantom DNA effect; when Vladimir
Poponin beamed laser through a tube with DNA
which was then removed, laser light continued
spiraling as within a crystal beam - energy
from outside time and space flows through the
activated wormholes, seen in electromagnetic
fields around psychics which make CD players
cease until the dissipation of the field

Birmingham Blues
Working on the road across this great big world
Ive been rolling like a stone, I never get back home
Yes, Ive been long-gone
And boy, Ive got the birmingham blues.
Been across the ocean to the south sea isles
Yeah, I travelled to the east and west for mile and miles and miles
And Ive been long-gone
And boy, Ive got the birmingham blues.
Chorus:
Across the world Ive seen
People and places
Could be the same
But with a different name.
I wouldnt change the things I do for anything
But Id just like to hear the message of the streets again
Give me a ticket
Cause boy, Ive got the birmingham blues.
It may be kind of homely but it sure is sweet
Industrial revolution put it on its feet
But its a long, long way
Boy, Ive got the birmingham blues.
Repeat chorus
Ill go and stay awhile and all the folks I meet
Theyll say you wont stay long, you got them travelling feet
Youll soon be long-gone
cos boy, you got the rest of the world blues!
Repeat chorus
Repeat chorus

One book at a time... though I'm usually doing the research for others while I'm writing, but that sort of research is fairly desultory and I like to stick to the book being written - and writing a book concentrates the mind so the research is more productive.
