That attitude does not exist so much today, but in those days there was a very sharp distinction between basic physics and applied physics. Columbia did not deal with applied physics.

When I entered medical physics in 1958 there were fewer than 100 in the U.S. and I could see many opportunities to apply my knowledge of nuclear physics.

There's no fun in physics, but a good deal of physics in fun.
A consistent pursuit of classical physics forces a transformation in the very heart of that physics.

In 1948 I entered the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, undecided between studies of chemistry and physics, but my first year convinced me that physics was more interesting to me.

I spent eighteen months as a graduate student in physics at Columbia University, waiting unhappily for an opportunity to work in a laboratory and wondering if I should continue in physics.

My physics teacher, Thomas Miner was particularly gifted. To this day, I remember how he introduced the subject of physics. He told us we were going to learn how to deal with very simple questions such as how a body falls due to the acceleration of gravity.

The violent reaction on the recent development of modern physics can only be understood when one realises that here the foundations of physics have started moving; and that this motion has caused the feeling that the ground would be cut from science.

Hot Stuff
There is someone I like who's
in 12th grade
he's cute he's hott
he never cocks off
his personality is stupid smart
and dumb
but he is still my little sugar plum
he has the cutest name
I could blow up and go to heaven
whenever I hear his name
when I see him I practically faint
to my perfect place
where he is
he likes another girl not me
that breaks my heart
I try really hard to impress him
but like he gives a crap how I look
he has an adorable smile
it makes me laugh
when he talks to me
I want to faint
he does drugs (I think)
but I dont care
he is still my perfect boy
he wears the cutest clothes that are
baggy on him
it shows his boxers
but it's all good.

From a consideration of the immense volume of newly discovered facts in the field of physics, especially atomic physics, in recent years it might well appear to the layman that the main problems were already solved and that only more detailed work was necessary.

It is wrong to think that the task of physics is to find out how Nature is. Physics concerns what we say about Nature.

Physics is the science of all the tremendously powerful invisibilities - of magnetism, electricity, gravity, light, sound, cosmic rays. Physics is the science of the mysteries of the universe. How could anyone think it dull?

On Being Challenged to Write an Epigram in the Manner of Herrick
To Griggs, that learned man, in many a bygone session,
His kids were his delight, and physics his profession;
Now Griggs, grown old and glum, and less intent on knowledge,
Physics himself at home, and sends his kids to college.

Hey Little Girl
(words & music by joy byers)
Hey little girl, you sure are cute to me
Come up a little closer, so I can see
Hold it baby now stay right where you are
Hey little girl you oughta be a movie star
All right...
Hey little girl, come on and dance with me
Youre about the cutest thing I ever did see
Hey little girl, Id like to take you home
Come on, come on, come on I want you for my very own
All right...hoo!...hoo!..
Hey little girl, you better hang on tight
A-wont you swing it to the left, and shake it to the right
Hey little girl, you know your lookin fine
Get ready honey lets go just-a one more time
All right...hoo!...hoo!
All right, all right all right....hoo!

Spontaneity
on a spontaneity
i begin to put words,
whatever comes, without much selection process
i put the word
without so much scrutiny as to what happens next
without weighing the possible consequences
i know the law of physics
much more the rules of a good composition
we were taught that in the university
but the the rules true to its standing
are meant to be broken
one gets a style of his own depending on the
kind of grief
the face of joy the state of compulsion
the phobia and the scruples that
crowd the head
the heart,
i sit on the chair facing the screen of the computer
and begin to put the line of words
one by one
like they are vines growing right from my mouth
coming out from my chest
and then
something shows
a face of words, the eyes of the certain mood,
someone moves in there
dancing and then stopping
on a pause
confrontational about what is this all about
and why.
