Many, many composers have only found their way to a certain form, through familiarizing themselves with texts.

I've got a collection of songs that I've had, I keep adding to and they're all great American composers. I wanted to showcase American composers and I've done that on a lot of my records and played things by American composers that I really respect.

Composers dialogue - and obsessively, bitterly argue - with other composers, often over the span of several centuries.

Well, American composers are the best composers. At this time in the world, we are where the energy is. We are the most diverse, the most iconoclastic, the most maverick, and the most skillful.

Texts
The best
Texts
In your
Mobile
Are from
Me.
The worst
Texts
In your
Mobile
Are from
Me.
As I've
Loved you
In the best
And worst
Possible
Ways.
We may not
Relive
Those
Good and
Bad
Days
Yet the fact
Remains
I'll love you
Always

So many of the sounds that contemporary composers were trying to create were to be found in the traditional musics of the world. That was encouraging but also little daunting to think that you had to work so hard to be new and yet it was old.

I was always drawn to Broadway musicals, and obviously composers like Gershwin, Rodgers, Berlin and Porter were writing music that I found wildly impressive.

Seldom
happiness is seldom
it is the trend nowadays
when our hand grapple for
what we do not yet master
for instance last night
when you were asleep
i was touching my own thighs
in the dark
i was familiarizing with the lines
of my face down to the
belly
in the darkness of my soul
i still keep on thinking about
someone else
someone whose love you
have taken away from me
someone who weeps and
does not speak
someone whose heart has turned
into stone
whose door has become
a wall
whose windows doubt
whether to open for the sun
or not

Body Violin Voices Sing In Heaven
flesh is but an instrument of thy will
normally in form case left unplayed
musicians free so choose instruments
to suit a mood styles orchestra played
not so is music of spheres found in heaven
music spontaneous bursts forth instant glee
everywhere souls in bliss sing souls hymns
music in rainbow sound stirs vibrant heaven
melody times solo compositions heart writ
played to honour master composers purpose
notes crystal pure music songs angels voice
who in hosts listen worship serve God praise
in heaven all creation sings in praise of God
in every voice form style tone heart rhythm
millions individualistic praise as souls may
yet all voice song tune unique worships God
all in heaven are body violin to trumpet songs
all in heaven sing in all voices unique creation
styles differ as snowflakes do soul heart longs
worship in love one true creator of all creation

From Whence I Found This Love
From nine Oni street a nascent baby cried
To his vital needs the modest family tried
Despite luxury and wants placed above
How would I ever ever forget this place
From whence I found this love.
Maku Maza was the King on the saddle
Bringing me up this way good from cradle
To a perfect gentleman, a lion and a dove
How would I ever ever forget his face
From whence I found this love.
To the dungeon and palace she had been
The faces of slaves and kings she had seen
Virtuous was Philo and charming at the stove
How would I ever ever forget her grace
From whence I found this love.
Peace was the watchword even in a storm
From 'lere to 'time to Ijegun it takes all form
Eyes on Christ so fixed even as we rove
How strong we grew all along the race
Form whence I found this love.
Chris is certainly the rock made by Elohim
Emy proves again you can well trust in him
Nne and Nnam presents virtue and resolve
How would I ever ever forget this race
From whence I found this love.

The War
There is a sound of thunder afar,
Storm in the south that darkens the day,
Storm of battle and thunder of war,
Well, if it do not roll our way.
Form! form! Riflemen form!
Ready, be ready to meet the storm!
Riflemen, riflemen, riflemen form!
Be not deaf to the sound that warns!
Be not gull'd by a despot's plea!
Are figs of thistles or grapes of thorns?
How should a despot set men free?
Form! form! Riflemen form!
Ready, be ready to meet the storm!
Riflemen, riflemen, riflemen form!
Let your Reforms for a moment go,
Look to your butts and make good aims.
Better a rotten borough or so,
Than a rotten fleet or a city of flames!
Form! form! Riflemen form!
Ready, be ready to meet the storm!
Riflemen, riflemen, riflemen form!
Form, be ready to do or die!
Form in freedom's name and the Queen's!
True, that we have a faithful ally,
But only the devil knows what he means!
Form! form! Riflemen form!
Ready, be ready to meet the storm!
Riflemen, riflemen, riflemen form!

Only For Me
Down the end of this barroom,
Out of sight of the light in the window
His mind in his whiskey
And his body in a folding chair
Far beyond repair
I enter his vision
He watches me look for my seat
He makes his decision
And he stands to his feet
Lord, its a long way down
It happened to me
Wonderful sight
Only for me
Only for you
It happened to be a light shining through
Form one who was lost and found
Just like me and you
Old man says, young man, my youre looking
Pretty green
Like a stranger to this kind of place
Come sit at my table
Come and look into my face
Ive got a story to tell.
There was a father and son
But that was a long time ago
And when the time came to run
I just couldnt say no
So I left them behind.
It happened to me
Wonderful sight
Only for me
Only for you
It happened to be a light shining through
Form one who was lost and found
Just like me and you
We have seen it before
In times of great sorrow
That human compassion will flow from a well
That has long run dry
It happened to me
Wonderful sight
Only for me
Only for you
It happened to be a light shining through
Form one who was lost and found
Just like me and you

A Sparrow's Thoughts.... (Number Six)
you can send the lie in the form
of the unemployment check, in the
form of food stamps, in the form
of Medicaid, in the form of new
policies, in the form of charity...
but the truth is you dont give a damn
until you are willing to share all
you have with fairness, until you're
willing to put your shoulders to the
load, until you're willing to get
involved in the work of equality!
