In the months leading up to World War II, there was a tendency among many Americans to talk absently about the trouble in Europe. Nothing that happened an ocean away seemed very threatening.

Trouble
Trouble in the city, trouble in the farm,
You got your rabbits foot, you got your good-luck charm.
But they cant help you none when theres trouble.
Trouble,
Trouble, trouble, trouble,
Nothin but trouble.
Trouble in the water, trouble in the air,
Go all the way to the other side of the world, youll find trouble there.
Revolution even aint no solution for trouble.
Trouble,
Trouble, trouble, trouble,
Nothin but trouble.
Drought and starvation, packaging of the soul,
Persecution, execution, governments out of control.
You can see the writing on the wall inviting trouble.
Trouble,
Trouble, trouble, trouble,
Nothin but trouble.
Put your ear to the train tracks, put your ear to the ground,
You ever feel like youre never alone even when theres nobody else around?
Since the beginning of the universe mans been cursed by trouble.
Trouble,
Trouble, trouble, trouble,
Nothin but trouble.
Nightclubs of the broken-hearted, stadiums of the damned,
Legislature, perverted nature, doors that are rudely slammed.
Look into infinity, all you see is trouble.
Trouble,
Trouble, trouble, trouble,
Nothin but trouble.

If you take all the machinery in the world and dump it in the ocean, within months more than half of all humanity will die and within another six months they’d almost all be gone; if you took all the politicians in the world, put them in a rocket, and sent them to the moon, everyone would get along fine.

Poem for V.E. Day
Victory in Europe
Fifty years ago;
To some it doesn't mean a thing,
It happened long ago.
It's just a thing they talk about,
Those old men down the street;
Todays kids cannot understand,
They never felt the heat.
They never knew the torment,
The heartache, pain and death;
They've never seen a soldier
That's fighting for his breath.
The victory in Europe
Was certainly hard won
For who lost a brother,
A father or a son;
For men who gave the ultimate
Upon some foreign land;
A poppy for a head-stone
Now growing in the sand.
This victory in Europe
About which now I write,
It made me free,
I'm glad I didn't have to go and fight.
I'm thankful that those old men,
The ones still living yet
Keep talking of V.E. day,
And won't let us forget.

We have a tendency in this country that when we say Black it automatically means Black Americans. But that's a big mistake, and that keeps us divided. There are Blacks all over this entire world-even in Africa.

No More Trouble (feat. Erykah Badu)
[Bob Marley]
(We don't need) No, we don't need (no more trouble) no more trouble!
(We don't need no more trouble)
Wo! Oh-oh-oh!
(We don't need) We don't need no (no more) trouble!
We don't need no trouble!
(We don't need no more trouble)
Make love and not war! 'Cause we don't need no trouble.
What we need is love (love)
To guide and protect us on. (on)
If you hope good down from above, (love)
Help the weak if you are strong now. (love)
We don't need no trouble;
What we need is love. Oh, no!
We don't need - we don't need - no more trouble!
Lord knows, we don't need no trouble!
(We don't need) We don't need trouble (no more trouble) -
no more trouble - no more trouble!
Seek happiness! (...) Oh, ...!
Come on, you all and speak of love. (...) Oh, yeah!
We don't need no trouble;
What we need is love, now. (What we need is love!)
(We don't need) Oh, we don't need no more trouble!
We don't need, no - we don't need no trouble!
We don't (need) - no, brothers and sisters ... (no more trouble!)
We don't need no trouble; we don't need no trouble!
We don't need no trouble!
What we need is love!
We don't need - we don't need no more - we don't need -
no more trouble - we don't need no more trouble!
Trouble we don't need (we don't need),
(We don't need) Lord, knows! -
we don't need no more war (no more trouble).
No more trouble - we don't need no more - more trouble! /fadeout/

Trouble In Mind
(you know right now Ive got trouble in mind)
Shes a special girl who wants to treat me right
I can tell by the way that she walks
A woman of the world who likes the city lights
I can tell by the way that she talks
I cant remember where it happened all too fast
I dont know what you really want me to say
But when she walked on by there was no turning back
I knew shed steal my emotions away
Oh all this talk about whats wrong or right
We gotta get to the bottom of this tonight
Chorus:
And if I ever get back on my feet again
I wont give you up oh-no
And we can always look back on what should have been
But honey right now Ive got trouble in mind (little trouble)
The word will get around thats just the way it is
But dont believe everything that you hear
Cos when it all comes down to a love like this
All the rumors will soon disappear
Oh love can travel on a broken line
But baby everybody has to take a chance sometime
And if I ever get back on my feet again
I wont give you up oh-no
And we can always look back on what should have been
But honey right now Ive got some, some trouble in mind
Somehow theres something that Im missin
I cant let you know oh-no
(right now) I gotta try and make you listen
Ill be back in time
Waiting at the end of the line
(guitar solo)
Love can travel on a broken line
Everybody has to take a chance sometime
And if I ever get back on my feet again
I wont give you up oh-no
Cos we can always look back on what should have been
Cos you know honey right now Ive got trouble in mind
And if I ever get back on my feet again
I wont give you up oh-no
And we can always look back on what should have been
But baby right now Ive got trouble in mind
Nothin but trouble
(you know right now Ive got trouble in mind)
(you know right now Ive got trouble in mind)
Lock me up and throw away the key
(you know right now Ive got trouble in mind)
Ive got it bad
(you know right now Ive got trouble in mind)...

Silver Horse
When I come in my dream to a house Ive never seen before,
I have a tendency to look for the exit door.
cause I never know it may be that house again,
I never know, I never know.
When I come in my mind to a stream thats running gently,
I have a tendency to run like a frightened deer.
cause I never know it may take me to that ocean again,
I never know, I never know.
I usually stay away from being carried away,
But one day I saw a silver horse.
I though he might take me to that somewhere high,
I thought he might take me to that deep blue sky.
I came to realize that the horse had no wings.
No wings, well, it wasnt so bad, you know.
I learnt to travel the world around
And run on the ground in the morning.
And thats the story of a wandering soul,
A story of a dreamer.

10 Days Late
Click your heals
And feel you come for me
Care free shes got something big to tell me
At the ocean
Talk back at the ocean
Theres no simple way
To let you know
Funny how she always cried out daddy
I got a big surprise she said
Im in trouble now
And it cannot wait
Shes ten days late
Boy your life got complicated
Well I cant wait
To see this through
Shes ten days late
Ten days late
Low ride bicycles go cruising by
I laugh
I dont even know why
Talk back at the ocean
Consequence and ozone
Catch a glow
Oh no baby oh no no
Give me a minute now
To figure out my state
Oh I know
Shes ten days late
And I dont know
Where to take it
But its still great
Knowing you
Shes ten days late
Ten days late
Choir time has come for you to choose
Baby daddies keep your boo
Many blessings come to you
Baby daddy keep your boo end choir
Your eyes look to me for what to do
I cant lie
I dont know
At the ocean
Talk back at the ocean
No ones laughing
Now what do I say
I walk away but oh no
Dont go
At the ocean
Talk back at the ocean
Give me a minute now
To figure out my state
Shes ten days late
And Im never going to fade it
I guess Ill always be
Knowing you
Knowing you
Knowing you

The Stars Go Over The Lonely Ocean
Unhappy about some far off things
That are not my affair, wandering
Along the coast and up the lean ridges,
I saw in the evening
The stars go over the lonely ocean,
And a black-maned wild boar
Plowing with his snout on Mal Paso Mountain.
The old monster snuffled, "Here are sweet roots,
Fat grubs, slick beetles and sprouted acorns.
The best nation in Europe has fallen,
And that is Finland,
But the stars go over the lonely ocean,"
The old black-bristled boar,
Tearing the sod on Mal Paso Mountain.
"The world's in a bad way, my man,
And bound to be worse before it mends;
Better lie up in the mountain here
Four or five centuries,
While the stars go over the lonely ocean,"
Said the old father of wild pigs,
Plowing the fallow on Mal Paso Mountain.
"Keep clear of the dupes that talk democracy
And the dogs that talk revolution,
Drunk with talk, liars and believers.
I believe in my tusks.
Long live freedom and damn the ideologies,"
Said the gamey black-maned boar
Tusking the turf on Mal Paso Mountain.

Jimmy Gillum
I was raised up on the west side of town
That's where I met Jimmy Gillum
Baddest man around
He'd rather fight than eat
Mister That's no lie
If you cross him up smile and wave goodbye
Bad bad Jimmy baddest man alive
He was dynamite in a small pack
His fuse was short
He didn't cut no slack
Oh that Jimmy Gillum was a bad cat
Chorus:
Talk about trouble
You talk about mean
Jimmy was the baddest cat I've ever seen
You talk about trouble
Should've been his name
Jimmy never pulled a punch
He was a fightin' machine
Yeah he was he was a fightin' machine
Now I recall one night at the Sugar Bowl
That's a honky tonk where Jimmy goes
Yeah the One Percent were burnin' up the stage
In walk Jimmy in a drunken daze
Ready to fight son in the worst way
So I ran for cover behind the stage
Bottles started flyin' I began to pray
Please oh Lord don't let him look my way
Chorus:
It's been years since I saw Jimmy last
When I pulled into a jiffy the other day
Just to get some gas
I heard this guy screamin' next to me
Turn on this pump you dirty s.o.b.
To my surprise it was Jimmy alive and well
Jumped in my car and took off fast
Knew in a minute he'd be kickin' ass
Oh that Jimmy Gillum was a bad cat
Chorus:
Yea he was talk about trouble, talk about trouble
Yeaaaaoooowwww talk about trouble
Yea that boy was bad to the bone talk about trouble
Play it boys sound good
Us Gillums never die we just fade away
Ummmmm trouble boy

Shrinking World
We live in a shrinking world
that grows smaller with each day.
Friends that live thousands of miles away
now only seem just a few hours away.
It is not that world is getting smaller
or that we are getting larger.
It is just that technology
is bringing us closer each day.
A trip that used to take months to do
is only a few hours away.
We can now fly half way around the world
and land there on the same day.
Communication makes it easier
to talk to one another
where as before letters
could take weeks to arrive.
News flashes around the world
just moments after it has happened.
We live closer to one another now
and our aspirations grow higher.
Though we grow closer
its always nice to give someone a hug.
It is more reassuring than seeing pictures
from a thousand miles away.

The Ocean! xx
The ocean is a mystery!
The ocean is a surprise!
The ocean is beautiful!
The ocean is a huge monster!
The ocean is never ending!
The ocean is silent!
The ocean is noisy!
The ocean is a time traveller!
The ocean is all about a distance!
The ocean is love!
The ocean is enjoyable!
The ocean is a godsend!
The Ocean is a winner! ! ! ! xx

We all know nations that can be identified by the flight of writers from their shores. These are regimes whose fear of unmonitored writing is justified because truth is trouble. It is trouble for the warmonger, the torturer, the corporate thief, the political hack, the corrupt justice system, and for a comatose public. Unpersecuted, unjailed, unharrassed writers are trouble for the ignorant bully, the sly racist, and the predators feeding off the world’s resources. The alarm, the disquiet, writers raise is instructive because it is open and vulnerable, because if unpoliced it is threatening. Therefore the historical suppression of writers is the earliest harbinger of the steady peeling away of additional rights and liberties that will follow.

Dont Talk To Me!
dont talk to me about Jesus,
when you wouldnt sit down
and eat with Him...
dont talk to me about patriotism,
the only flag i allow
is the one that burns.
dont talk to me about freedom,
bought with the blood
of Native Americans...
Asians, Africans, Middle Eastern peoples,
and renegade fugitive Irishmen.
dont talk to me about equality,
when you treat your women as possessions.
dont talk to me about morality,
dont even go there!
dont talk to me about sexuality,
when you hide in darkened rooms,
doing things in secret
that dont rhyme your Sunday prayers.
dont talk to me about truth,
and try to sell me the lie!
dont talk to me about fear,
and then try to use it against me.
just... dont talk to me!
