I consciously decided not to be a 'London' actor. Those gangster movies made a lot of East End actors think they were movie stars. And I was very aware that they were going to go out of fashion.

It's the formulaic studio movies the make money, and when they do, the actors in them are automatically movie stars.

Only In The Making Of Movies
Only in the making of movies,
Are actors found to be handed scripts.
To then learn lines some find to be tedious.
And time well spent is sacrificed to deliver,
What's right for the price...
For the cost being paid.
Camera angles are selected,
By a director who chooses the best scenes.
And the actors are blocked within them,
To emote with belief as an audince viewing this...
Sits,
With their emotions manipulated.
Only in the making of movies,
Are 'realities' depicted.
Although many in the audience become captivated,
With beliefs they also can deceive truth easily.
By saying and doing things they wish to sell.
With hopes their 'portrayals' have gone over well.
And only those who become offended,
They can not sell lies they told to tell...
Are those who become combative,
When confronted by others...
Who are specific and direct AND caring less,
How a charade is masqueraded to address.
Only in the making of movies,
Are actors found to be handed scripts.
To then learn lines some find to be tedious.
Until what is done has been finished.
But many unpaid to 'act' but embellish facts,
Find it difficult to strip away all their fantasies.
Only in the making of movies...
No one sits back to snack.
Only in the making of movies...
Every actor wants to get paid.
And,
Only in the making of movies...
No one sits back to snack.
No one has time for that,
Since a budget has to be paid back.
Oh.
Only in the making of movies...
No one sits back to snack.
Only in the making of movies...
Every actor wants to get paid.
And,
Only in the making of movies...
No one sits back to snack.
No one has time for that,
Since a budget has to be paid back.
Oh.
Only in the making of movies...
Facts are scratched!
And,
Only in the making of movies...
Facts are scratched!

A Sea Burthen
A ship swinging
As the tide swings, up and down,
And men's voices singing, -
East away O! West away!
And a very long way from London Town!
A lantern glowing
And stars looking down,
And the sea smells blowing, -
East away O! West away!
And a very long way from London Town!
Lights in wild weather
From a tavern window old and brown,
And men singing together, -
East away O! West away!
And a very long way from London Town!

Gangster Of Love
Gangster of love
Gangster of love
You with the cocktail in your hand
You in your red mercedes benz
Goin in one ear and out the other
Cover up the pain with laughter, baby
Hey al capone
Is that who you think you are?
All the girls
All around the world
Well, they wanna shake your hand
It wont be long
Youll need an alibi
A little bird
Told me what hed heard
Is it really true?
Gangster of love
Gangster of love
Theyre gonna take you for a ride
And hit you right between the eyes
You can hear the pretty music playin well
Listen to the words, theyre saying,
You can hear them calling, hear them calling
Hey, al capone
Youll need a bodyguard
Just like that
Youll be laid out flat
With a broken heart
I shot you down
Whos gonna help you now?
Valentines day
Better hope and pray
Theyll be tearing you apart
Gangster of love, gangster of love
Gangster of love, gangster of love
I hear conversations
In restaurants and bars
I read all the papers
And what they say is wrong
Its such a fine, fine line
Such a fine, fine line
Gangster of love
Gangster of love
Gangster of love
Gangster of love
Gangster of love
Gangster of love
Gangster of love

I think that you can't make a movie without a script. But you also can't make movies without actors. You also can't make movies without technicians. And there has to be just one person in charge of everybody, and to me that one person is the director.

Groovy Movies
Sometimes I think Im gonna better myself,
Searching for acceptance in this big, wide world.
Sometimes I think I wont make it,
Playing in a rock n roll band.
Sometimes I wanna be a picture director,
And try to make the world understand.
By making groovy movies,
By making groovy movies,
By making groovy movies.
All the movie makers of the world would be,
Falling over backwards to have dinner with me.
Ill go down to [? ]
Anytime I feel like a game[? ].
Or take a long vacation to san tropez,
And think of all the money I made.
By making groovy movies,
By making groovy movies,
By making groovy movies.
I dont want to be a producer,
I dont want to be a big star.
I just want to be a picture director,
And smoke a big havana cigar.
By making groovy movies,
By making groovy movies,
By making groovy movies,
By making groovy movies,
By making groovy movies,
By making groovy movies.

A Gangster
Education
that's not for me,
I'm a Gangster
can't you see?
Studying at school
And following golden rule
Isn't a gangster tool
That's not cool
I learn from the streets
not typed sheets
On the road all day
that's the Gangster way
Education that's for bob
I have to focus on my mob
Pushing drugs, killing spree
That's the gangster way for me

I like the idea of movies having a magic element. How many times have you seen an actor in a movie who you know only as the character? It's wonderful, isn't it?

Sad Movies
Day and night we walk these aisles
In the same old movie show
And look for someone
to feel for a while.
There's matinees on Saturdays
When we sit in the velvet chairs
Popcorn boxes fly through the air.
Sad movies, they make you cry
Sad movies make you wonder why
You ever came.
Do something to me,
Don't make me wait
Stab something through me,
Don't cry out the good things
That I appreciate.
Day and night we walk these aisles
In the same old movie show
And look for someone
to feel for a while
The light's go on, the movie's gone
And the manager's up there
He says he doesn't care
And we take our money back.
Sad movies, they make you cry
Sad movies make you wonder why
You ever came.

In my movies, there has been little to do in the way of animal rights. I have never worked in a movie with animals. No horse-riding, no trained dogs, lions, bears. A few actors, but what could I do? We had to have them.

We rolled in the jungle
we rolled in the jungle
like a gagster
if you had seen me with a myke
you would call me master
if you had seen me with a gun
you would call me gunster
if you had seen me in the club
you would call me clubster
if you had seen me in the gang
you would call me gangster
we rolled we rolled we rolled
we rolled in the jungle
like a gangster
i stepped into the gang
they called me gangster
i reached for a bottle of star
they called me master
i am the brightest star
though the smallest of the stars
but the brightest of the stars
but before i grabbed the star
i had a serious scar
and without the gangsters
am still the real star
and so we rolled in the jungle
like a gangster

A lot of actors get concerned about their own image, even going so far as to rewrite a movie to best serve that image. All I want to do is be in good movies.
