Perhaps it sounds ridiculous, but the best thing that young filmmakers should do is to get hold of a camera and some film and make a movie of any kind at all.

Have I ever made a fool of you
Did I ever make you look at me

'Hunger' definitely changed my life, in terms of being recognized by filmmakers, since that was very much a filmmakers' film.

The Need
Get the need
Get it.
Im in the movies.
Hello young thing
Im an old film star
Maybe youve seen my picture.
I need it
Like an old newsreel
Im just fading away.
Bang bang dear
Ive got the needles
And Ive got the need
If youd be so kind.
Come on and feel the need in me
Come on and feel the need.
Feel it!
Hello young thing
Ive got reverse instructions
In the back of my car.
I need it
Dont cry till this thing is over
And my friends applaud.
Bang bang dear
When can we do this again
And put it all on film
Hello young love
Ive got something to show you
And please dont be ashamed.
Im the man
Im the atrocity film star
And Ive got the need.

I have no idea why one of our most original filmmakers would want to spend two years of his life translating someone else's movie from Spanish into English. And it wasn't such a good film in Spanish, either.

An old promise of my friend
One of my friends a documentary film maker
Who promised me to give a role in his latest film.
The saga of an uprooted family live in a remote village
And I am their great grand father.
My photograph with a lame horse was hanged on the wall
That remained in the entire film.
At the end of the movie,
The camera focused on me a close up
And they found tears in my eyes.
I was the nominee for the best supporting actor.

I used to hate doing color. I hated transparency film. The way I did color was by not wanting to know what kind of film was in my camera.

Then my first film was something called Cannibal Girls, which sounds like a horror movie but was actually kind of a goofy comedy with horror elements. Like a horror spoof.

The film camera's ability to physically move through space, not zoom through space - every time we have a video camera the movement is through zoom; every time we have a film camera it is a physical movement.

Mistakes Made
Everyday,
We all are given opportunities...
To reflect and progress.
With the doing of our best.
Everyday,
Twenty four hours...
Are given to us to improve.
Some don't, some do...
With re-evaluation from which we choose.
Not everyone has given this,
A thought to prioritize.
With mistakes mad realized.
To acknowledge, correct and move on.
Not everyone has given this,
A second of their time.
Only to find themselves...
Slicing and eating pieces,
Of a humble pie...
Decereasing in size!
'I know this sounds to you ridiculous,
But...
Is there anymore of that pie left to eat?
I know this sounds to you ridiculous...
But...
The taste of it is not bad at all.
In fact I'm going to make this my favorite treat.

The trick of this thing and the beauty of this thing is that it's a cowboy movie first and then stuff happens. Even after stuff happens it doesn't change - it hasn't suddenly changed into another kind of movie. It's still a cowboy movie. And that's what's incredible about it because nobody has done that before, that's new territory.

I am going to produce a movie of my own. I am not going to stick to the time-tested formulae of Hindi cinema. I want to make a film for the present generation. So there will be a lot of new faces in the film.
