I'm sorry, I didn't notice
I'm sorry, I didn't notice
When this started to happen
I'm sorry, I didn't notice
I just let it begin
I'm sorry, I didn't notice
The change in anythin'
I'm sorry, I didn't notice
When we stopped talkin'
I'm sorry, I didn't notice
We weren't letting each other in
I'm sorry, I didn't notice
That sad, sad trend
I'm sorry, I didn't notice
The beginning of the end
I'm sorry, I didn't notice
You were no longer my friend
But believe me, now I notice
And it hurts deep within
Now that I notice
I hope you'll be again

I've Come to Notice More Now
I've come to notice more now,
The falling snow.
I've come to notice more now,
A certain purpose...
I had disavowed.
I've come to notice more now,
The core of my being with more meaning.
A joy I can express...
With less emphasis on things collected.
And a happiness I always had,
But somehow did not allow.
I've come to notice more now,
I can.
I've come to notice more now,
I will!
I've come to notice more now,
My needs are basically fulfilled.
Without desire to seek approval,
Sought to identify my peace of mind!
I've come to notice more now,
Thoughts like that I have left behind.
And notice, I do...
My blessings!

The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds.

Rise, Rise to the Occasion
Rise, rise to the occasion
Rise, rise to the invitations of life
Oh rise, rise to the music of joy
Uh rise, rise to the victory over strife!
This is the time for you to march forward
Oh son of the Mighty! Valor is the key
This is the urgency to show courage abundant
Oh daughter of Energy! Courage is the key
Rise, rise to the tide and rise to the low
Defeat lethargy and defeat fear
Mind the goal and attain it
The guts are here and the glory is here
Face the challenge, embrace it
Cross the puddles and the furrows
Calm the heart and fight the battle
Celebration’s for you – not the sorrows
Rise, rise then, rise O bright!
Rise, rise then to the right
Tire not, rise till the end of the path
Rise, rise then to all the might!

Rise Up
rise up and fly like eagles
rise up through the sky
we've got to rise up
over higher mountains
rise up, rise up, rise up
Everybody's come a long long way
such a long way ,to be here today
we're going hard ,giving it all
we've been knocking on wood with our backs to the walls
we've been working every day and night
waiting for the chance for the day to arrive
and now we've all got something to prove
win or lose, there's only one thing to do
We've got to rise up
and fly like eagles
rise up through the sky
you've got to rise up
over higher mountains
rise up, rise up, rise up
Inside the sweat, inside the heat
in each and every heart there's a pounding beat
to do it wrong, to do it right
each of us has put up, one hell of a fight
and as we face the final test
all that we can do is to do our best
and as we're making time stand still
to get to the top you've got to give all you've got
You've got to rise up
and fly like eagles
rise up through the sky
you've got to rise up
over higher mountains
rise up, rise up
Shine a light and let them see
everything you want to be
Shine a light and let them know
you are never letting go
Rise up... win or lose there's only one thing to do
We've got to rise up
and fly like eagles
rise up through the sky
you've got to rise up
over higher mountains
rise up, rise up, rise up
Rise, and fly like eagles
rise up through the sky
you've got to rise up
over higher mountains
rise up, rise up, rise up, rise up,
over higher mountains, rise,
We've got to rise up.

We Shall Rise
(traditional/emmylou harris)
In that resurrection morning
When the trumpet of God shall sound
We shall rise, (hallelujah) we shall rise.
Then the saints will come rejoicing and
No tears will eer be found
We shall rise, (hallelujah) we shall rise.
We shall rise, (hallelujah) we shall rise (amen)
We shall rise, (hallelujah)
In that resurrection morning
When these prison bars are broken
We shall rise, (hallelujah) we shall rise.
In that resurrection morning
When the shades of life has fled
We shall rise, (hallelujah) we shall rise.
In the day of glory dawning when the sea
Gives up his dead
We shall rise, (hallelujah) we shall rise.
I shall see my blessed savior
Who so freely died for me
We shall rise, (hallelujah) we shall rise.
And our fathers and our mothers and our
Loved ones we shall see
We shall rise, (hallelujah) we shall rise.

Quicksand
I went out one night looking for the sun. I found
An open area, silver patch on the ground.
I sat there, waiting to see the cascading light
Drape all over me when the golden orb took flight.
I wanted to see it rise, but, instead, I sank.
It was slow at first. I didn't notice the Earth yank
Me down to bury me. I didn't notice the sand
Had swallowed my once sprawling legs, my arms, my hands.
When I realized how deep I was, I could not
Believe it. I struggled. I despaired. I was caught
No matter how hard I fought, so what could I do?
I relaxed myself until, fin'lly, I fell through.

You 'Have' To Notice It
Lets...
Discuss,
Racism.
And how it affects you daily.
'It doesn't.'
Comeon.
You have to notice it?
'I do.'
So...
You are affected.
'No.
I am not.'
Of course you are.
You are obviously black.
A black man.
'And? '
If I were black I would notice that.
Everywhere I would notice it.
Everywhere I went...
It would be on my mind.
In my consciousness.
I'd be full of resentment.
I wouldn't be able to sleep,
Knowing I stood out amongst all people.
I would feel insecure.
Emotionally tormented inside,
With wishes to be white.
I would be...
Are you done?
'Yes.
But I just wanted you to know,
How I would feel...
IF I were a black man.'
Sorry to disappoint you.
Perhaps my commitment,
To having an identity with purpose first...
Has not prioritized my being black.
As much as you have.
Are you hoping one day I will feel inferiror?
'You don't? '
By what or who?
'Those who feel they are better than you.'
I don't fantasize.
But I realize there are many who do.
And I notice them everywhere I go.
You have to notice it too?
'I don't.'

Rise Ye! Rise Ye!
Rise Ye! rise ye! noble toilers! claim your rights with fire and steel!
Rise ye! for the cursed tyrants crush ye with the hiron ’eel!
They would treat ye worse than sl-a-a-ves! they would treat ye worse than brutes!
Rise and crush the selfish tyrants! ku-r-rush them with your hob-nailed boots!
Rise ye rise ye glorious toilers
Rise ye rise ye noble toilers!
Erwake! er-rise!
Rise ye! rise ye! noble toilers! tyrants come across the waves!
Will ye yield the Rights of Labour? will ye? will ye still be sl-a-a-ves?
Rise ye! rise ye! mighty toilers! and revoke the rotten laws!
Lo! your wives go out a-washing while ye battle for the caws!
Rise ye! rise ye glorious toilers!
Rise ye! rise ye noble toilers!
Erwake! er-rise!
Our gerlorious dawn is breaking! Lo! the tyrant trembles now!
He will sta-a-rve us here no longer! toilers will not bend or bow!
Rise ye! rise ye! noble toilers! rise! behold, revenge is near;
See the leaders of the people! come an’ ’ave a pint o’ beer!
Rise ye! rise ye! noble toilers!
Rise ye! rise ye! glorious toilers!
Erwake! er-rise!
Lo! the poor are starved, my brothers! lo! our wives and children weep!
Lo! our women toil to keep us while the toilers are asleep!
Rise ye! rise ye! noble toilers! rise and break the tyrant’s chain!
March ye! march ye! mighty toilers! even to the battle plain!
Rise ye! rise ye! noble toilers!
Rise ye! rise ye! noble toilers!
Erwake! er-r-rise!

Afterwards
When the Present has latched its postern behind my tremulous stay,
And the May month flaps its glad green leaves like wings,
Delicate-filmed as new-spun silk, will the neighbours say,
'He was a man who used to notice such things'?
If it be in the dusk when, like an eyelid's soundless blink,
The dewfall-hawk comes crossing the shades to alight
Upon the wind-warped upland thorn, a gazer may think,
'To him this must have been a familiar sight.'
If I pass during some nocturnal blackness, mothy and warm,
When the hedgehog travels furtively over the lawn,
One may say, 'He strove that such innocent creatures should come to no harm,
But he could do little for them; and now he is gone.'
If, when hearing that I have been stilled at last, they stand at the door,
Watching the full-starred heavens that winter sees
Will this thought rise on those who will meet my face no more,
'He was one who had an eye for such mysteries'?
And will any say when my bell of quittance is heard in the gloom
And a crossing breeze cuts a pause in its outrollings,
Till they rise again, as they were a new bell's boom,
'He hears it not now, but used to notice such things'?

Confused
A girl at 15 sits in her room and begins to write in her journal.
I just started to notice certain people in a romantic way.
I notice their scent as they walk by.
I remember the sound of their laugh.
I notice ever muscle tone in their body.
And I daydream about their lips kissing mine and taking my breath away.
But I’m confused because those who I have romantic feeling about are the same sex as me
Whatso might happen happens still
Try churning oceans of wisdom,
You may well get nectar of life,
But churning life's venomous strife,
The crown of thorn comes with kingdom.
Ask not the hen on a dunghill
O when the sun would rise,
The sun shall rise to scorching noon,
To fall and fall till midnight's moon,
Till death rises, till dark night dies,
And new dawn as ever does dawn,
Though unsteady, like a newly born fawn,
Whatso might happen happens still.
Notice, dawn dawns not till dusk dies,
The sun must set if it should rise.

Will you notice?
Will You notice when I'm gone?
Will you no when the phone just rings out?
Your sure to have no doubt.
Will you just think I'm sleeping?
Or in another mood.
Will you prejudge me again?
I'm guessing you'll just think.
I'm not near the brink.
But let me tell you this.
You are wrong plain wrong.
Death is taking my hand.
My life I am about to take.
But I only wonder this
Will you even notice I've gone.
But some how I doubt you'll care.
You allways made me feel small.
You never notticed my dipair.
But you'll have to notice my suicide

Notice What This Poem Is Not Doing
The light along the hills in the morning
comes down slowly, naming the trees
white, then coasting the ground for stones to nominate.
Notice what this poem is not doing.
A house, a house, a barn, the old
quarry, where the river shrugs--
how much of this place is yours?
Notice what this poem is not doing.
Every person gone has taken a stone
to hold, and catch the sun. The carving
says, "Not here, but called away."
Notice what this poem is not doing.
The sun, the earth, the sky, all wait.
The crowns and redbirds talk. The light
along the hills has come, has found you.
Notice what this poem has not done.

How They Do That! And, Survive
I've begun to notice those same people,
Were standing on this corner yesterday.
And now they are on that corner.
What's going on?
'Neither one of us are doing too much,
If I agree we both notice...
People with nothing to do,
But move from one side of the street...
To the other.'
Yeah?
But there is a difference.
'And what is that?
We both still have our jobs.'
You're right.
We complain everyday about the same routine.
To do nothing else,
But notice the same people do nothing...
As you put it.
'Like I said.
There is a difference.
We are getting paid to do nothing.'
And very soon,
Guess what?
'What? '
We might, one day...
Be asking them how they do that!
And, survive.

Look At Me
Look at me
Look at my mouth,
the little up-curve at the ends;
Look at my hair
the way I flip it when I talk;
Look at what I wear
some of it is for you.
Notice how I smell.
Notice how I look,
and how I breathe
when you are near;
come close to me;
lean in when we talk.
Touch my face sometimes.
Notice the brown specks
in my green eyes;
touch me
when I walk by;
And laugh a little
for no reason
when you say hello.
Look at me
at odd times
from across the room.
Back into me at parties
expecting a hug
from behind
And thank you love
cause you do all this
all the time.

Without Given Notice
Next time you remove something of mine at your liking.
Without given notice.
For it is my right as the author.
The reason behind the reasons.
Things do not just happen.
With a grievance I will make you aware of just how offended I am
I am not the son of sam.
My works are not evil in intent.
They are as I feel, as I am.
I say to you judges and juries
What gives you the right
Without given notice
Like a contract I feel it has been broken.
What has been under copy write has just been stolen.
I think not I own the original.
It in a note book and on my computer
So good luck and god bless.
I wish you the best
Without given notice.

You Ask Me If I Change
you ask me if i change
i tell you, yes i always change
don't you notice it?
some hairs on my head
are whiter now, and some
have fallen without any
sound, my wrinkles move
and they beget wrinkles
my eyes fail, my hands
tremble, my feet dwindle,
my memory of names and
places are wanting of
particulars
i change. Everything in me
changes beside you and
how can you not notice it?
i know, we are too near
and we are always together
in this familiarity where
changes are everyday and
yes, how could we not notice
all these, my dear?
you are laughing, a lock
of your hair is falling too.

the will of those who cannot
