Father's Day (4) (Making Lemon Into Lemonade)
My father beat my mother,
setting a very bad example.
But I did not follow that.
I love my wife very much.
My father was a chronic smoker,
causing him a malignant lung cancer.
But a cigarette I never touch,
because I know it is not good for my lung and heart.
My father was a heavy drinker
causing him cirrhosis of liver.
Even beer I never drink,
because I know it will put my health on the brink.
My father was very poor,
because he was a lazy worker,
As poverty hit very hard,
making my fighting-spirit very tough.
Those were blessings in disguise,
a good lesson for my life.
I suffered a lot by those bad habits.
I don't want my wife and kids suffer a bit.
I want to be father-unlike son,
giving my family warmth like a dawning sun.
Awareness, Now!
awareness...
walking in awareness,
breathing in awareness,
giving in awareness,
touching in awareness,
listening in awareness,
doing in awareness,
speaking in awareness,
living in awareness....
awareness,
......now!

I have been extremely pleased to support the Trust's work in the Lupus Unit ever since. Personal experience also motivated me to become involved to help raise the awareness of the disease and hopefully thereby improve the speed of diagnosis.

Working John, Working Joe
When I was a young man (as all good tales begin)
I was taught to hold out my hand
And for my pay I worked an honest day
And took what pittance I could win
Now Im a working john and Im a working joe
And Im doing what I know
For God and the economy
Big brother watches over me
And the state protects and feeds me
And my conscience never leaves me
And Im loyal to the unions
Who protect me at all levels
And as I grew, the winds of fortune blew
And the bank smiled down upon me
And mortgaged to the hilt I threw
The breeze of caution behind me
Now Im a working john and Im a working joe
And Im good at what I know
And God and the economy
Have blessed me with equality
Now Im equal to the best of you
And better than the rest of you
Who would criticise my success
In times of national unrest
Now I own my horseless carriage
In its central-heated garage
And I commute eighty miles a day ---
Up at seven to make it pay
I direct ten limited companies
With seeming consummate expertise
Two ulcers and a heart disease
A trembling feeling in both knees ---
Im a working john and Im a working joe
