Working At The Factory
All my life I've been a workin' man
When I was at school they said that's all you'll ever understand
No profession. I didn't figure in their plans
So they sent me down factory to be a workin' man
All I lived for, All I lived for
All I lived for was to get out of the factory
Now I'm here seemingly free, but working at the factory.
The music came along and gave new life to me
And gave me hope back in 1983
The music came and set me free
From working at the factory
All I lived for, All I lived for
All I lived for was to get out of the factory
All I lived for, All I lived for
All I lived for was to get out of the factory
Never wanted to be like everybody else
But now there are so many like me sitting on the shelf
They sold us a dream but in reality
It was just another factory
I made the music , thought that was mine
It made me free , but that was in another time
But then the corporations and the big combines
Turned musicians into factory workers on assembly lines.
All I lived for, All I lived for
All I lived for was to get out of the factory
We made the music to set ourselves free
From working at the factory.
All my life I've put in a working day
Now it's sign the contract. Get production on the way
Take the money, make the music pay
Working at the factory
All I lived for was to get out of the factory.
Never wanted to be like everybody else
But now there are so many like me sitting on the shelf
They sold us a dream but in reality
Was just another factory
Working at the factory.

Factory
Days are long but the minds are strong
In the factory
Heads are down and all the people frown
In the factory
I'm so down I put my head around every noose I see
Days are long but the minds are strong
In the factory
Eyes are mean but the walls are clean
In the factory
Patience now they're gonna string you out
In the factory
I'm so tired I never go outside every night I sleep
Days are long but the minds are gone
In the factory

Straight From The Factory
Straight from the factory
Straight from the factory
We were made for each other
One of those things thats meant to be
Straight from the factory
Nothin less than exactly
Youre the only lock thats made to fit my key.
Many parts and many hearts
Been mismatched before
Still they make delivery.
Some folks send em back and never find what they need
But babe my satisfactions guaranteed.
Straight from the factory
We were made for each other
One of those things thats meant to be
Straight from the factory
Nothin less than exactly
Youre the only lock thats made to fit my key.
(instrumental)
Straight from the factory
We were made for each other
One of those things thats meant to be
Straight from the factory
Nothin less than exactly
Youre the only lock thats made to fit my key.
Sittin tight and sittin proud
Waitin on a shove
Passers by just keep on passin by
Ill admit I did a bit of passin by myself
Til I found a perfect fit
And now Im tied.
Straight from the factory
We were made for each other
Perfect match as anyone can see
Straight from the factory
Nothin less than exactly
Youre the only lock thats made to fit my key.
Youre the only lock thats made to fit my key.............

Used Car Sales People
With the gift of the gab they would talk their way out of hell
These used car sales people they know how to sell
On their selling ability their jobs are at stake
The more cars they do sell the more commission they do make
On any deals they clinch they have never lost
And your trust on such people can come at a cost
The more cars they sell the more money they get paid
A hard job to succeed in the used car trade,
Shy and sensitive used car sales people one might say are rare
To sell one a car no effort they do spare
They have to sell cars or their boss them will fire
And other used car yard owners as car sales people them will not hire
The more cars they sell the greater is their pay
So to sell you a car they try every which way.

A Child's Sweet Dream
Deep in the night where all dreams come true
is a candy factory just waiting for you.
Its storage room is filled with sugar and spice
and racks adorned with candy sweet and nice.
Peppermint sticks welcome you at the door,
and peanut brittle covers the entire floor.
Its walls of chocolate bars are at bay,
and make the candy factory a nice place to stray.
The candy factory is surrounded by lolipop trees
and you may choose one just as you please...
Deep in the night where all dreams come true
is a candy factory just waiting for you.

Factory Windows Are Always Broken
Factory windows are always broken.
Somebody's always throwing bricks,
Somebody's always heaving cinders,
Playing ugly Yahoo tricks.
Factory windows are always broken.
Other windows are let alone.
No one throws through the chapel-window
The bitter, snarling, derisive stone.
Factory windows are always broken.
Something or other is going wrong.
Something is rotten--I think, in Denmark.
End of factory-window song.

Lori Meyers
Lori meyers used to live upstairs
Our parents had been friends years
Almost every afternoon wed play forbidden games
At nine years old theres no such thing as shame
It wasnt recognition of her face, what brough me back was a familiar mark
As it flashed across the screen
I bought some magazines, some video tape scenes
Incriminating act, I felt that I could save her
who are you to tell me how to live my life?
you think I sell my body; I merely sell my time.
i aint no cinderella, I aint waitin for no prince...
to save me in fact until just now I was doin just fine
And on and on
I know what degregation feels like
I felt it on the floor at the factory
Where I worked long before, I took control now I answer to me
The 50k I make this year will go anywhere I please
Wheres the problem?

Health and cheerfulness make beauty; finery and cosmetics cost money and lie.
Factory
Early in the morning factory whistle blows,
Man rises from bed and puts on his clothes,
Man takes his lunch, walks out in the morning light,
Its the working, the working, just the working life.
Through the mansions of fear, through the mansions of pain,
I see my daddy walking through them factory gates in the rain,
Factory takes his hearing, factory gives him life,
The working, the working, just the working life.
End of the day, factory whistle cries,
Men walk through these gates with death in their eyes.
And you just better believe, boy, somebodys gonna get hurt tonight,
Its the working, the working, just the working life.

Were There Hope
I was never in a league of noble gentlemen
To whom she'd cast polite and flitting smiles,
Only distant hope and dying dreams for me!
Or perhaps descent into a game of wiles
To give a chance of sipping wine on heady nights
With her angelic presence to declare;
Above, an aura playing out hypnotic hues,
And I in awe of blonde cascades of hair.
But no! my tiring soul is sinking in a mire
To haunt me for an age and evermore, for
How could I expect to hold her silken hand
When I am but a soulless ghost of yore?

Factory Girl
Waiting for a girl who's got curlers in her hair
Waiting for a girl she has no money anywhere
We get buses everywhere
Waiting for a factory girl
Waiting for a girl and her knees are much too fat
Waiting for a girl who wears scarves instead of hats
Her zipper's broken down the back
Waiting for a factory girl
Waiting for a girl and she gets me into fights
Waiting for a girl we get drunk on Friday night
She's a sight for sore eyes
Waiting for a factory girl
Waiting for a girl and she's got stains all down her dress
Waiting for a girl and my feet are getting wet
She ain't come out yet
Waiting for a factory girl

Sydney
My mind wandered on the hillsides
above those english fields
the smell of hay the prick of gorse
the meanings clear to me
the sun was never setting
twilight bestrode the day
and the feelings i was feeling
would never go away.
this was my blessed england
this is where i was born
this england now forgotten
while i live on fatal shores.
i stole a half a sixpence
i needed it for bread
then i was here transported
and am the walking dead.
i am now here in australia
the convict nation found
when ships do cease their sailing
and when they run aground.
its not easy in this foreign land
its hot and dry and hard
but the soldiers here amongst us
sell us rum and whisky jars.
for its too late to make conscience
a real matter in the day
one drink one drink one drink of rum
and my dreams they float away.
it was magical at landing
after four months on those seas
we could not walk in a straight line
with our sea full wobbled knees.
we hunkered down in sydney
we were sent out straight to work
we lived in a small compound
with dry biscuits as our perk.
we stitched and sewed rough garments
we worked with fingers raw
we worked and worked and worked
till we couldn't work no more.
our home was called the factory
we never got outside
we never saw that sydney
a distant twenty miles.
i've told it like it was then
i'll tell it to the world
about that female factory
and all us factory girls.

The Smallprint
take,
take all you need
and I'll compensate your greed
with broken hearts
sell,
and I'll sell your memories
for fifteen pounds per year
but just the good days
save,
It will make you insane
and it's bending the truth
you're to blame
for all the life that you're losing
you watch this space
but I'm going all the way
and be my slave to the grave
I'm a priest god never paid
hope,
and I hope you've seen the light
cus no-one really cares
they're just pretending
sell,
and I'll sell your memories
for fifteen pounds per year
but you can keep the bad days
save,
It will make you insane
and I'm bending the truth
you're to blame
for all the life that you're losing
you watch this space
but I'm going all the way
and be my slave to the grave
I'm a priest god never paid

and I'm bending the truth

I'm a priest god never paid

What Hope Can Do.
Hope....
Hope......
Hope is what strives you to be the best that you can.
Hope is what helps you hold on.
Hope is what makes you feel there could be a possibility that everything can work out for the better.
Hope is what you can make it be.
Hope is magical.
Hope is fantastic.
Hope is beautiful.
Hope is everything.
Hope is sweet.
Hope is there for you.
Hope is there for friends.
Hope is there for family.
Hope is there for loved ones.
Hope is there for everybody..........

You Make Me Feel
by Jack Bruce
You make me feel like a hat stand
All tall, grim and brown
You make me feel like a clothes horse
Old and left out in the rain
You sure say you can
Also shared you with the others
I couldn't stand it
You make me feel like a deserted house
Dark and empty in the dusk
You made me feel like a charred foot
In a burnt out factory
You insist that I split
Cast me into the pit with the others
So many of them down there
Now it's so dark dark dark
Not a tiny spot of hope for me
Now I want you so much
I need a crutch by the time you set me free
Now it's so dark dark dark
Not a tiny spot of hope for me
Now I want you so much
I need a crutch by the time you set me free
You make me feel like a broken yellow yo-yo
Thrown away on a dump
You make me feel like a flower
Makin' way for a petrol pump
You ruined my days
With your poisoned ways
Like you did the others
So many others
Wonderin' down here
Hello man, how are things?
Dark isn't it?
What a woman?
Wonder when she'll let us out

Sell Me A Coat
La la la la la la la la la la la la la
A winters day, a bitter snowflake on my face
My summer girl takes little backward steps away
Jack frost took her hand and left me, jack frost aint so cool
Sell me a coat with buttons of silver
Sell me a coat thats red or gold
Sell me a coat with little patch pockets
Sell me a coat cause I feel cold
And when she smiles, the ice forgets to melt away
Not like before, her smile was warming yesterday
See the trees like silver candy, feel my icy hand
Sell me a coat with buttons of silver
Sell me a coat thats red or gold
Sell me a coat with little patch pockets
Sell me a coat cause I feel cold
See my eyes, my window pane
See my tears like gentle rain
Thats the memory of a summer day
Sell me a coat with buttons of silver
Sell me a coat thats red or gold
Sell me a coat with little patch pockets
Sell me a coat cause I feel cold
Sell me a coat with buttons of silver
Sell me a coat thats red or gold
Sell me a coat with little patch pockets
Sell me a coat cause I feel cold
