Death Is Theatrical?

I just murmured;
'Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf'
and looked around in the theater.
Then an unknown person I found
seated behind me
and he was told;
'You have come to know me soon
And I am your native humble funeral caretaker
Barney Raymond's representative in the States
Very helpful to the downtrodden.
Burial could be in the motherland with all the rituals
and your known people.
Not to to worry about the expences and we have our own flights
like a rocket your corpses reach there and the *kindest President
will be there for the ceremony? '
I was really scared for the last night's nightmare.

Here Comes President Kill Again

Here comes president kill again,
Surrounded by all of his killing men.
Telling us who, why, where and when,
President kill wants killing again.
Hooray, ring out the bells,
King conscience is dead.
Hooray, now back in your cells,
Weve president kill instead.
Here comes president kill again.
Broadcasting from his killing den.
Dressed in pounds and dollars and yen,
President kill wants killing again.
Hooray, hang out the flags,
Queen caring is dead.
Hooray, well stack body bags,
For president kill instead.
Aint democracy wonderful?
Them russians cant win!
Aint democracy wonderful?
Lets us vote someone like that in.
Here comes president kill again,
From pure white house to number 10.
Taking lives with a smoking pen,
President kill wants killing again.
Hooray, everythings great,
Now president kill is dead.
Hooray, Ill bet you cant wait,
To vote for president kill instead...

I Cannot Promise The Universe Will Grow Wiser And Wiser

I CANNOT PROMISE THE UNIVERSE WILL GROW WISER AND WISER

I cannot promise the Universe will grow wiser and wiser-
I cannot know that greater lights will shine towards the end-
I cannot know that we all of us
Are on the way Up and Up and Up Forever-
I cannot say the Universe is our Continent
And all we need to know is to continue going West in it –
I cannot promise you when Time and Times are Done
A greater Soul or Oversoul-

I do not know what God will give us in the end-
I pray against the all- scattered emptiness and endless darkness-
But who am I and where was I
When the foundations of the earth were laid?
How can I say or know where and what all these other universes are on their way to?
We are not what we dream to be no matter how great and courageous our dreams.
God in my ignorance God in our ignorance-
Where does it all? When will it all? What does it all –Mean?

Sticking to Those Promises

That's it for questions!

Oh hell...
I quess I can answer one more.
The roar of this crowd is deafening.

Annnndddd...
That gentleman.
Seated next to the woman,
With a mole on her right cheek.
With an earring in her left ear that reads:
WE LOVE YOU!
I love you too.
Yes...
You!
Up in the second balcony in row E.
Fourth seat in!
Your question?

'I just want to say,
It is just thrilling to have you here,
Mister President!
This is my question.
And I hope your response satisfies those,
Who are riveted by your appearance!

At one time back in the '60's...
I had no problem finding argyle socks.
Will that be a priority in your administration,
To return them to Bloomingdales? '

As part of our 'Yes We Can' campaign.
And sticking to those promises I made...
Consider that wish,
Done!
My heart goes out to you!
Just the other day,
Michelle and I thought about that.
And we guarantee you immediate and fast action!

One more question!
And please make it brief.

YES!
The woman of mixed heritage...
Sitting next to the gentleman,
Who has a stain on his lapel.
It looks like...
Mustard from a hotdog purchased at Nathan's..
Yes,
You sir.
The one seated behind Condoleeza Rice in disguise,
And born November 14th 1954 in Birmingham, Alabama.
In row B...fifth seat in!
Your question?

'Mister President, your briefs?
Are they Hanes or Fruit of the Loom?
Or...
Do you prefer boxers? '

By all means!
Your expressed concern is duly noted.
And that, ladies and gentlemen...
Will be the main focus of the Health Care Bill,
We propose to reform the importance of getting coverage
For all in need.
With those choices to keep preferences intact.
AND...
At a savings to you,
The American public.

So

The other day on the fifth Anniversary of our invasion of Iraq our Vice President Chaney said so when he was told that 75% of us the American people believe that the war in Iraq is a mistake. So what if we never found weapons of mass destruction. So what if we never know whether Bin Laden is dead or alive. So what if Hussein is dead but nothing really has change. So what if we are now looked at as the terrorist in this so called war on terrorism. So what if we have sent more American to their death then the 9/11 attacks ever did. None of this matter at all says our Vice President. We must stay in Iraq until we win. But there is nothing to win. So!

I Looked At You

i looked at you,
and saw the fugitive
in my mirror.
i looked at me,
and saw the child in you.
i looked at God,
and saw the stranger waiting.
i looked at the stranger,
and saw my brother in need.
i looked at freedom,
and saw the bars of the cell.
i looked at the bars,
and saw my spirit walk free.
i looked at anger,
and saw forgiveness waiting.
i looked at forgiveness,
and saw the hands of love.
i looked at my body,
and saw the bird leaving the nest.
i looked at the nest,
and saw a world made of straw.
i looked at today,
and saw the scars of yesterday.
i looked at yesterday,
and saw the dawning of tomorrow.
i looked at the seed,
and saw the plant in fullness.
i looked at fullness,
and saw emptiness the seed.
i looked at you...

Mr. President (Have Pity On The Working Man)

We've taken all you've given
But it's gettin' hard to make a livin'
Mr. President have pity on the working man
We're not asking you to love us
You may place yourself high above us
Mr. President have pity on the working man
I know it may sound funny
But people ev'ry where are runnin' out of money
We just can't make it by ourself
It is cold and the wind is blowing
We need something to keep us gong
Mr. President have pity on the working man
Maybe you've cheated
Maybe you've lied
Maybe you have lost your mind
Maybe you're only thinking 'bout yourself
Too late to run. Too late to cry now
The time has come for us to say good-bye now
Mr. President have pity on the working man
Mr. President have pity on the working man

Odysseus: In Memory Of Arthur Griffith

You had the prose of logic and of scorn,
And words to sledge an iron argument,
And yet you could draw down the outland birds
To perch beside the ravens of your thought
The dreams whereby a people challenges
Its dooms, its bounds. You were the one who knew
What sacred resistance is in men
That are almost broken; how, from resistance used,
A strength is born, a stormy, bright-eyed strength
Like Homer's Iris, messenger of the gods,
Coming before the ships the enemy
Has flung the fire upon. Our own, our native strength
You mustered up. But I will never say this,
Walking beside you, or looking on you,
With your strong brow, and chin was like a targe,
And eyes that were so kindly of us all.

And sorrow comes as on that August day,
With our ship cleaving through the seas for home,
And that news coming sparkling through the air,
That you were dead, and that we'd never see you
Looking upon the state that you had builded.

The news that came was like that weight of waters
Poured on our hopes! Our navies yet unbuilded,
Our city left inglorious on its site,
Our fields uncleared, and over
Our ancient house the ancient curse of war!
And could we pray, touching the island-homeland,
Other than this: 'Odysseus, you who laboured
So long upon the barren outer sea;

Odysseus, Odysseus, you who made
The plan that drove the wasters from the house,
And bent the bow that none could bend but you:
Be with us still:
Your memory be the watcher in our house,
Your memory be the flame upon our hills.

My Siamese Twin

My love, my siamese twin
I see you seated there by
that tree.
I love you, are you still free?
Like long ago we used to bite
and kiss
Now for your love, hundreds of
me plead;
Real love is inseperable,
As sweet memories are
unforgettable.
Comes a thunderbolt
from Jupiter
Meaning to cut us asunder
I will follow you anywhere
even to yonder.
My love you don't need to
wonder,
Love grows even stronger.
Like the tide of the sea
I shall bring down Odysseus' ship
And keep you free from shammed
love and deceit.
My love, it is so real
Take it, it's yours, I offer you;
There can't be another so true.
I rhyme not for sake of ryme
I only wish to make you smile.
Hope I impressed you with
these few lines of mine:
My love poems I give to you
They are my dreams and my
fantasy too.

My love, my siamese twin;
I love you, do you love me too?
Like long ago when we played
by the pool.

Sweet memories are hard to lose.

On a Close-up of Louis Esterhuizen, on His Poem “Winnie”

So tell me Louis, you allege:
“I went to look at the remarks
found in his biographical sketch:
“I love the work of various poets
and my favourites are AG Visser, Eugene Marais,
Ingrid Jonker, D.J. Opperman, N.P. Van Wyk Louw,
William Shakespeare, Dylan Thomas, John Keats,
Robert Frost, W.B. Yeats, Yahuda Amichai,
Hannah Szenes, Stevie Smith, Dorothy Parker
and even Homer.””

Further you say: “With the exception of a few names
under the English favourites, all the Afrikaans poets are experts
whom he probably encountered at school,
if a person looks at the verses on his page
you realise that Mr. X has never grown past the incidental
school-contact...In this he is alas not unique.”

Still you are the great master
where it comes to the works of Homer,
as you make a comparison
in your poem “Winnie” between Me. Winnie Mandela
and Homer’s character Penelope,
where there are in reality flagrant contrasts
and the masters canonise this poem
in the “Great Verse Book”
without even being aware of the contrasts?

Let me as just a unfolding poet
who “has never grown past
the incidental school-contact, ”
point out the contrasts clearly:

The story of Penelope comes
out of Homer’s Odyssey where the title
indicates a long historical journey or adventure
or some wanderings
that the main character Odysseus / Ulysses
undertakes before again arriving
at the island Ithaca
where he rules as the king.

For only a very short while
Odysseus / Ulysses is with the nymph Circe
on a island, but the greatest part of the book
is about his wanderings.

In flagrant contrast you write:
”And Penelope comes forward, impatient
and rude as Ulysses is only moving rocks
on his island.”

Where you use the Roman name of Odysseus
to describe Nelson Mandela.
Your Ulysses is not wandering at that stage
or travelling on a historical journey full of adventure
he is busy “moving rocks.”

At that stage your Ulysses
isn’t a king, far less
your Penelope ever becomes a queen,
not even the wife of a president.

The original Odysseus / Ulysses
is only true to one goddess namely Athena
who at various times helps him,
even in his battles,
where your Ulysses divorces your Penelope,
takes another wife
and marries her as a Christian, a Moslem, a Hindu
and also as a Jew.

Still less the ”UDF, AZAPO and also COSATU;
then there’s also the Young Comrades -”
are princes and kings who are trying to seduce her.

Nevertheless you write:
“But while the crown-princes are wooing her
and the almost-princes gather around her
and rollick, the woman plays
in the three storey-mansion
with her last matches.”

The real wife of the real Odysseus / Ulysses
was not involved with a “Stompie” character
who disappeared without a sign
and in the Odyssey the property of Odysseus / Ulysses
is wasted and devoured,
while the princes are fornicating with the maids
and Odysseus / Ulysses
along with his son Telemachus destroys
all of those princes and kings
along with the fornicating maids
that contrasts flagrantly
with the acts of your Ulysses.

Your Ulysses is moving stones, only walks
on his way to freedom a few steps,
divorces your Penelope
and marries another wife.

Nonetheless the original Penelope remains true
to Odysseus / Ulysses,
under the pretext of completing a shroud
that she is weaving for her father in law Laertes,
of which she continually again frays out the thread
and later the two are again together and happy
and it is the nearest
that you come to the original story:
“to again fray out the dream-cloak:
Oh, the endless undoing
of the endless doing, she lisps.”

To my opinion your comparison
between Me. Winnie and Penelope
is rather shallow and totally ungrounded,
as their are just too many contrasts
that you did not think through

and now I am wondering
who is the person
that has “never grown past the incidental
school-contact” as far as Homer’s Odyssey is concerned?

I thought to myself, 'I am wiser than this man neither of us knows anything that is really worthwhile, but he thinks he has knowledge when he has not, while I, having no knowledge, do not think that I have.
