Praying To A New God
(feldman / chandler / hues)
What got into you got into me too
What came over you is coming over me
Feel like Ive had enough of all the old stuff
I saw the writing on the wall on my t.v.
Its another second coming, like it or not, yeah,
Oh yeah
Its another second coming, like it or not
You better start praying to a new god
Start praying, praying to a new god
Start praying to a new, new god
Theyre saying the devils got a new job
Start praying to a new--
A lot of babel came down the cable
Everybody can be famous for a day
From shore to shore
A big department store
Is all thats left of the american way
Its another second coming, like it or not, yeah,
Oh yeah
Its another second coming, like it or not
You better start praying to a new god
Start praying, praying to a new god
Start praying to a new, new god
Start praying what are you afraid of
Start praying to a new--
Theres a big world
In the street outside
In their uniform of pride
And theyve all come
To see a star from the east
Is he man or beast?
Decide
Feel like Im crucified, still Im not satisfied
The second coming is coming anyway
I hear them pray for more on every dance floor
I hear the word go out across the milky way
Its another second coming, like it or not, yeah,
Oh yeah
Its another second coming, like it or not
You better start praying to a new god
Start praying, praying to a new god
Start praying to a new, new god
Success and moneys what hes made of
Start praying to a new--
Start praying, praying on the freeway
Start praying to a new, new god
Start praying, praying on the airwaves
Start praying to a new god
Start praying, praying at the back door
Start praying to a new, new god
Start praying, praying on the dance floor
Start praying to a new god

From a praying young man, and a fasting old man, God preserve my cloak.
The Month Of Fasting
The month long fasting grants a meal a day.
Meals got before or after don't spoil it.
During the fasting you must be honest.
Be the marital life the month of fasting.

It's clearly more important to treat one's fellow man well than to be always praying and fasting and touching one's head to a prayer mat.

Fasting And Praying
Fasting And Praying,
Your love is needed to be strong with the muse of your faith;
For outside are dogs ready to bit you!
But their acts are always done in ignorance.

You're Praying
every time you stop to help
someone stuck on the side
of the road... you're praying.
every time you go over
and help your neighbor
mow his grass... you're praying.
every time you give a couple dollars
to the down and out person
bumming in the parking lot....
you're praying.
every time you take the time
to listen to someone whose
life is falling apart... you're praying.
every time you go and give blood
during your lunch hour...
you're praying.
every time you stand up
for the person everyone else
is running down... you're praying.
every time you take in a
stray dog or cat... you're praying.
every time you give more
than you have to give... you're praying.
every time you care
when no one thinks you should...
you're praying!

Praying To The Aliens
Slowly the thought
There is no one to replace
Came into view
And he began to cry
Now only boys
That love only boys
The perfect picture
Of a boy/girl age
Im praying to the aliens
Im praying to the aliens
Grey overcoat
And he could be anyone
A random poll check
Do you ever think of women?
They broke him down
Into a torn old queen
Living somewhere
Between dead and dying
Im praying to the aliens
Im praying to the aliens
There are no more
Do you begin to see?
The corner of my eye
Could give me away
Isnt it strange
How times change?
I cant imagine
Living any other way
Im praying to the aliens
Im praying to the aliens

Praying For Rain
the farmer poet
walking barefoot
in the dust,
looking upwards
towards heaven,
praying for rain.
the blue collar poet
walks between the rows
of machines gone silent
in the deserted building,
looking upwards,
praying for work.
the nurse poet
stares at the line
of people wanting help,
no insurance, no money
looking upwards,
praying for hope.
the politician poet
surrounded by the din
of deals being made
without conscience
or integrity,
looking upwards,
praying for dignity.
the mother poet,
pushed into a corner,
no food, no money,
cant pay the rent or
buy clothes.
looking down
into her children's eyes,
praying for God!
the human poet,
looking inwards,
praying for all
that lives
praying for rain!

There are two methods for the literary study of any book - the first being the study of its thought and emotion; the second only that of its workmanship. A student of literature should study some of the Bible from both points of view.

Peace Will Come
(e) i'm praying for the day, when the (a) whole wide world can say,
That this (e) cruel war it is (b7) o'er,
And the (e) boys who are gone, start their (a) long journey home,
Oh i'm (e) praying for the (b7) day when peace will (e) come.
When the black clouds roll away, and the skies are bright and gay,
And the guns are silent once more,
And the bombs no longer fly, from the planes up in the sky,
Oh i'm praying for the day when peace will come.
Oh there's mother and dad, don't you know they'll be so glad,
To see their son's coming home,
This old world will rock with joy, for that freedom loving boy,
Oh i'm praying for the day when peace will come.
Sweethearts and wives so dear, who have waited for that year,
For their loved ones to return,
This old world will be so gay, on that great and happy day,
Oh i'm praying for the day when peace will come.

We study the injustices of history for the same reason that we study genocide, and for the same reason that psychologists study the minds of murderers and rapists... to understand how those evil things came about.

I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy. My sons ought to study mathematics and philosophy, geography, natural history, naval architecture, navigation, commerce, and agriculture, in order to give their children a right to study painting, poetry, music, architecture, statuary, tapestry, and porcelain.

understanding is the only way for success
now we move on to the next step

Baptism Of Terence
baptized by full immersion in water
three times in a tributary of a river
colloquially known as The Waimak
rural countryside of the Canterbury plains
under a blue sky with golden beams of light
shining down mild afternoon sun blesses
slanting through cold flowing water
like a living golden mystic mantel
light shimmers through living water
baptized after a period of 24 hours
fasting neither eating nor drinking
in solitude solo prayer meditating
praying reading any passages
of the Bible I chose preparing
seeing no one sleeping fasting
step into Waimakariri River
river of cold rushing water
braided wide shingle beds
the hand of God is upon the baptized
it is God’s will his people be baptized
chosen accepting Christ are baptized
Jesus Christ by John was baptized
in Aramaic into Messianic Judaism
you into Christian denominations
one sinner former atheist baptized
one raised in Jesus Christ baptized
believe affirm in faith living beliefs
