The democratic and pedestrian character of the new Mass itself seems to invite the ditties that pass for hymns these days.

Ditties

Upon 'these' walls,
I intend to scrawl...
And leave my ditties.

Many may consider my ditties,
Unwitty.
With a lack of depth.
And uneffective at best.

But I believe my ditties left,
Provided for me a therapy.
And if I received a peace of mind from this...
Those who were displeased,
Will eventually get over it.

Upon 'these' walls,
I intend to scrawl...
And leave my ditties.

Some will be read as humor to please.
While others will be skipped over,
To dismiss...
By those who see what I leave,
As rantings done by another one...
Who should seek immediate counseling,
From a professional therapist...
Who will not charge me a dime to probe!
Hoping to uncover a treasure trove.

Scenes from a Parish

The weekday Mass at 6 a.m.
brings old folks out
from bungalows
around the church.
They move like caterpillars
down sidewalks,
some with canes,
some on walkers.

Young Father Doyle says the Mass
and is renowned for giving
homilies on weekdays
superior to homilies
heard in other churches
even on a Sunday.

After Mass, he goes back
to the rectory to care
for a mother older than
most of his congregants.
A gracious lady, his mother
cannot move or talk
because of a stroke.

But every Sunday at noon,
when the church is overflowing
with people wanting Mass to start,
Father Doyle, in full vestments,
wheels his mother in a lump
down the middle aisle
and lifts her like a chalice
and places her in the front pew
before he ascends to the altar.

Sometimes at night,
when his mother is finally asleep,
he returns to the church
and rehearses in the dark
three hymns she long ago
asked him to sing at her funeral.

He practices the hymns
because the doctor said
she could go at any time
and when that time comes,
he doesn't want to miss a note.
The last thing she ever said was
'Son, I'll be listening.'

Hymns To The Silence

Oh my dear, oh my dear sweet love
Oh my dear, oh my dear sweet love
When Im away from you, when Im away from you
Well I feel, yeah, well I feel so sad and blue
Well I feel, well I feel so sad and blue
Oh my dear, oh my dear, oh my dear sweet love
When Im away from you, I just have to sing, my hymns
Hymns to the silence, hymns to the silence
Hymns to the silence, hymns to the silence
Oh my dear, oh my dear sweet love its a long, long journey
Long, long journey, journey back home
Back home to you, feel you by my side
Long journey, journey, journey
Yeah in the midnight, in the midnight, I burn the candle
Burn the candle at both ends, burn the candle at both ends
Burn the candle at both ends, burn the candle at both ends
And I keep on, 'cause I cant sleep at night
Until the daylight comes through
And I just, and I just, have to sing
Sing my hymns to the silence
Hymns to the silence, hymns to the silence
My hymns to the silence
I wanna go out in the countryside
Oh sit by the clear, cool, crystal water
Get my spirit, way back to the feeling
Deep in my soul, I wanna feel
Oh so close to the one, close to the one
Close to the one, close to the one
And thats why, I keep on singing baby
My hymns to the silence, hymns to the silence
Oh my hymns to the silence, hymns to the silence
Oh hymns to the silence, oh hymns to the silence
Oh hymns to the silence, hymns to the silence
Oh my dear, my dear sweet love
Can you feel the silence? can you feel the silence?
Can you feel the silence? can you feel the silence?
Hymns to the silence, hymns to the silence
Hymns to the silence, hymns to the silence
Hymns to the silence, hymns to the silence
Hymns to the silence, hymns to the silence
Hymns to the silence, hymns to the silence.

S3

let the days pass
let all the dreams ask

why are we still unfulfilled?
when will we become true?

let the days pass
let the mind be as busy as a marketplace

let the haggling be haggling
bargain bargain, compromises

let the days pass
let the hair on my head be all white

let the days eat me whole
and let me fade like a ghost

let there be none of me again
i have had enough

Boris Pasternak

I would go home again—to rooms...

I would go home again—to rooms
With sadness large at eventide,
Go in, take off my overcoat,
And in the light of streets outside

Take cheer. I'll pass the thin partitions
Right through; yes, like a beam I'll pass,
As image blends into an image,
As one mass splits another mass.

Let all abiding mooted problems
Deep rooted in our fortunes seem
To some a sedentary habit;
But still at home I brood and dream.

Again the trees and houses breathe
Their old refrain and fragrant air.
Again to right and left old winter
Sets up her household everywhere.

Again by dinner time the dark
Comes suddenly—to blind, to scare,
To teach the narrow lanes and alleys
She'll fool them if they don't take care.

Again, though weak my heart, O Moscow,
I listen, and in words compose
The way you smoke, the way you rise,
The way your great construction goes.

And so I take you as my harness
For the sake of raging days to be,
That you may know our past by heart
And like a poem remember me.

Days Without You

Waking up with tears in my eyes
Knowing I may never see you again
Is like someone is stabbing me in my heart
And twisting the knife until it comes out

I know you don’t think of me
Cause you are not like that
Your too matcher for that
But I can’t to get you off my mind
It’s not fair that you can do it and
Then act like nothing happened at all
I feel like I'm being pulled apart
And you’re just fine
Or do you think of me no
No that’s what I want
And it's my entire fault
That I can’t stop thinking about you

I'm just a tramp
That can’t pass up an opportunity to get some
You are so much better then me
You deserve better then this
Then me
You deserve much more then what I can give you
I'm just a stupid teen that can’t seem to control her hormones
But I will give you all I can give you
Your wish is my command

Hours pass on by like a 300 car train
The days pass on by with out you
Like slugs crossing the road
But as slow and painful the days are with out you
Somehow I make it throw
But if I had it my way
There will not be many more days
I have to suffer with out you
Until I see you once more
But days without you
Are days with out you
And I can’t change that
I have nothing to look forward to
Other then more
And more
Days with out you

Pedestrian Wolves

Raised by pedestrian wolves, out in the forest
Raised by pedestrian wolves, out in the forest
I was left to fend for myself
I was left in a basket, just like baby moses
To float down that muddy river
Protected by the stupid little fairies
I floated for nine days and nights
I floated for nine days and nights
till I came to the city
Bright lights and all the fine ladies
Come on out all you bright fine ladies
I like you just like you are,
And I love you, kind of,
Just like you are, and I love you
Like a sticky piece of cotton candy
In this bright red cotton candy, candy world
(chorus)
Im so excited , about the prospects of meeting with a
Stranger in an alley, Im so excited. I hope theyre rough, I hope their
Skin is tough like spanish leather
Cant wait until their dull, dead eyes meet mine
I cant wait until their dull, dead eyes meet mine
Raised by pedestrian wolves, out in the forest
Raised by suburban lions, out in the jungle
We really like to run in packs- and I like that
When we hunt, we all function with one mind
Our collective predications are as sharp as the
Razor in my pocket, and as dull as the ice
Melting slowly in my glass
My only love is the love of oblivion, in a dark room
With as couple of pedestrian wolves
So artfully backlit by a solitary candle
I take my pleasure in soft red clouds of desire
So funky in this unwashed bed for one with the soft red dreams of oblivion
(chorus)
Im so excited cause soon Ill hit the streets
I am the crown prince of pavement, Im so excited
Under the sheltering skin
Stretched out so pale and thin
There is an ocean of bright red liquid love
And that, my friend, is my favorite color
Raised by pedestrian wolves out in the forest
And I take my pleasure on a soft red cloud
And I take my pleasure in the monkeys bed
And the wolves still howl and the light still glowing red
And I take my pleasure in a blue steel cage
And I take my pleasure through the monkeys eye
And the wolves all howl while the world around me dies
(chorus)
Im so excited , about the prospects of meeting with a stranger
In an alley, Im so excited. I hope theyre rough, I hope their skin is tough
Like spanish leather
Raised by pedestrian wolves out in the forest
Raised by pedestrian wolves - out in the forest
I was left to fend for myself
I was left in as basket - just like baby moses
To float down that muddy river
Protected by all those stupid little fairies
I floated for nine days and nights til I came to the city
Bright lights and all the fine ladies
Come on out all you bright, fine ladies
I like you just like you are, and I love you, kind of,
Just like you are in this bright red cotton candy, candy world
Raised by pedestrian wolves...

Diminishing Returns

This pretty girl has style and flair,
Will she invite me to her lair?
I swear there's something in the air.

Should I invite her for a drink,
Suggest a date at the skating rink
(For writing an ode is a waste of ink) ?

These things don't come upon a plate,
Or if they do, they come too late
Like something nasty that we ate.

So, dear friend, please do not scold -
Our warmest days give way to cold
And youth itself like love grows old.
