I had never thought of myself as a dramatist, and, for really good technical results, the thought came too late: a man of letters has become too wordy to write economically for the stage.

Our subconscious minds have no sense of humor, play no jokes and cannot tell the difference between reality and an imagined thought or image. What we continually think about eventually will manifest in our lives. Unfortunately most of us are completely unaware of this fact and we do not monitor our thoughts with the care needed so that we can create in our lives the results we say we want. Since the great majority of people do not feel worthy and deserving of abundant good fortune, radiant good health and total success in all areas of their lives that overriding thought pattern controls the results people get. The first order of business of anyone who wants to enjoy success in all areas of his
her life is to take charge of the internal dialogue they have and only think, say and behavior in a manner consistent with the results they truly desire.

Realisation

I thought love is blind,
I thought to love was wrong,
I thought love was a mystry,
I thought love was for fools,
Yet the wise fall either way

I thought it graticism and nonsence,
I thought it a philosophy,
Love the opium i presumed,
So sweet and deceptive,
So nice yet conspiracy,
Love, i hated

I thought it tribulation,
I thought it melancholy,
Not until i found you,
Realisation i reached,
Love is good,
So good when it is you

I Was A Little Too Lonely

(jay livingston, raymond evans)
You promised me you'd come back,
I promised to wait.
But i was a little too lonely,
And you were a little too late.
Too many long nights alone,
Not even a date.
So i got a little too lonely,
And you were a little too late.
You never did write, you never did call.
When i had the blues, you were havin' a ball.
You thought that i'd be here to run to,
Now i'm gonna do to you what i've been done to.
Too bad about you, my friend,
It could've been great.
But i was a little too lonely,
And now you're a little too late.
~interlude~
You never did write, you never did call.
When i had the blues, you were havin' a ball.
You thought that i'd be here to run to,
Now i'm gonna do to you what i've been done to.
Too bad about you, my friend,
It could've been great.
But i got a little too lonely,
And you were a little too late!

If I loved all the world as I do you, I shouldn't write books to it: I should only write letters to it, and that would be only a clumsy stage on the way to entire telepathy.

From Mighty Pen

It will not only be evaluated
But in all the directions circulated
Each word read and assessed
The thought behind it accepted and chased

Whatever you write
May not lead to fight
But may be preserved
As you have deserved

Write up is perfect
Speak of good act
One should have always dreamed
Thought of and assumed

Write with pen and pencil
But never mention it as nil
It may make final impression
Fine border with embroidery relation

So to speak less and do more
Some thoughts are needed therefore
To write and leave it for others
To think, act or otherwise bother

Write, write and write
That shall ignite
Your hidden talent
To make solid movement

Readers may not appreciate quickly
But may accept views happily
As it has come from a mighty pen
At a time when needed from noble man

Nothing

Nothing has entered my mind today,
nothing to write about.
When this happens I cringe in fear
that the words have all died out.
Surely, there must be something to say
that's just a thought away.
I'll sit patiently with pen in hand
and try to convey
how I feel when nothing comes to me.
My spirits get so low,
that all around me I feel cold
as the page stays white like snow.

Just one thought is all I need.
That's not too much to ask.
One little thought to contemplate
that I can take to task.
Aha! I've got one on my mind.
I'm no longer in doubt.
I shall write about nothing.
For there's nothing to write about.

Write by Return

Clerk, corresponding,
“Rooster and Comb”,
Here I sit idle
“Thinking of home”;
I must be grafting—
Living to earn,
More correspondence,
“Write by return.”

Clerk in employ of
“Shoddy and Woods”,
Thinks that we have not
Forwarded goods.
Parcel we sent them—
Missing, I learn,
Says in his postscript:
“Write by return.”

Here is another
Letter from Bland—
“Cheque he expected
Isn’t to hand.”
How we forgot it
Cannot discern,
“Forward remittance,
Write by return.”

Here is another—
O how they come?
Treats of a “Bender”
Planned by a chum.
See on the margin,
Big letters: “Burn
After perusal—
Write by return.”

Mail in from England,
Letters for me—
Dear little sweetheart
Over the sea.
“Quite broken-hearted,
O how I yearn
Only to see you. . . .
Write by return.”

One who will “never
Think that I’m bad”
Writes me a letter
Tearful and sad.
Thinks that I’m starving,
Filled with concern,
Sends me some money—
“Write by return.”

Letter from father,
Sent to his son,
“All is forgiven—
Fat calf for one.”
O that I ever
Thought he was stern—
Money for passage—
Write by return.

Infectious Thought

I
A poem like a thought
Ingratiates with time
When we write it's wrought
Into our rhyme
II
What is thought once
Is thought forever
Whether intellect it hunts
Or it's dull or clever
III
An ancient poem
And another's thought
We may call our own
So think we aught
IV
What binds us to those
We never knew
Is a poem or a prose
A thought our minds too

Think like me too
As I sit and think
only of you

0296 Casting for a new production

The second act went really well tonight,
pity it’s so near the end of the run,
it’s good enough for a West End transfer;
they’re a good bunch when we work together

no thanks, not tonight old man –
got some TV ad lines to learn,
well it’s good money for old rope…
seeyer chizmate

make-up off, stage door chat –
after a good perf., who wants to pub it,
hear yet again about how they triumphed together
in Romeo and Juliet god how many years ago
looking at them now – obscene..

*

When people used to tell me
how old people sat lost to the world
in a golden haze of memory,
I used to think
borING..! not me, not on your life…

but it’s not quite like that:
a touch of unexpected thought
may clothe loved actors in a new-stitched garb –
before you took the stage and they
were cast by you as your supporting roles –

they too were Romeo and Juliet,
throwing the curtains open on their red-eyed dawn…
and you, not even yet the twinkle
in the future’s eye…
they’d played the serving-maid, the page,
the jaunty clown, the flirt, the on-off, bright-eyed savagery -
the toilers in the burning, dusty sun,
the heroes in a life of war and peace,
had hopes you never knew or asked,
and then, invited you to join their cast…

these were such unknown people, just
as unimportant as you are seen as, now…
but loved, by those you never knew or thought of…

now, in your lean and slippered age
you can re-read their lines,
these fellow actors whom you thought
because they loved you, that you were their life…
now, as you re-write the stories of their lives,
cast them as beloved strangers

Why Didn't You Call Me

We went out one night
Everything went right
We got something started
It was outta sight
We had such a good time
Hey! Why didn't you call me?
I thought I'd see you again

Bt the phone I wait
String into space
Thinking about our first kiss
Out on our first date
We had such a good time
Hey! Why didn't you call me?
I thought I'd see you again

Why don't you call me again?
And I'm gonna ask
When I see you again
Thought you would be my man my lover my friend
I never thought it would end so quickly
It would end

I've resorted to
Hanging up on you
I know you know it's me
How else will I talk to you
We had such a good time
Hey! Why didn't you call me?
I thought I'd see you again

Why don't you call me again?
And I'm gonna ask
When I see you again
Thought you would be my man my lover my friend
I never thought it would end so quickly
We had such a good time
Hey! Why didn't you call me?
I thought I'd see you
I thought I'd see you
I thought I'd see you again

Many Too Many

Many too many have stood where I stand
Many more will stand here too,
I think what I find strange is the way you built me up
Then knocked me down again.
The part was fun but now its over,
Why cant I just leave the stage?
Maybe thats because you securely locked me up
Then threw away the key.
Oh mama,
Please would you find the key.
Oh pretty mama,
Please wont you let me go free.
I thought I was lucky
I thought that Id got it made.
How could I be so blind?
You said good-bye on a corner
That I thought led to the straight.
You set me on a firmly laid and simple course
Then removed the road.
Oh mama,
Please help me find my way.
Oh pretty mama,
Please lead me through the next day.
I thought I was lucky
Oh I thought that Id got it made.
How could I be so blind? oh no...

An Autumn Letter

I want to write a letter to someone in the autumn
In the Autumn, I see lonely fountain streamed from a deep valley
And want to wet the lonely heart
I write a letter in the autumn night but knowing that cannot be sent in the morning
Now there is a postman who delivers letters in the air in the days and nights
So I am sending letters
I regret but the unsent letters always cry
I send the thread tied letters in the air without stamps
The letters of the poet opens its eyes with holding their breaths

My wife says that stage acting is like being on a tightrope with no net, and being in the movies, there is a net - because you stop and go over it again. It's very technical and mechanical. On stage you're on your own.

Before I Met You

(charles l. seitz, joe lewis, elmer rader)
Well I thought I had seen good looking men in my time
That was before I met you
And I never saw one that I wanted for mine
But that was before I met you
Chorus:
Well I thought I was swinging the world by the tail
I thought I could never be blue
I thought Id been kissed
And I thought Id been loved
But that was before I met you
Well I wanted to ramble and always be free
That was before I met you
And I said that nobody could ever hold me
But that was before I met you
Repeat chorus
I thought Id been kissed
And I thought Id been loved
But that was before I met you
Darling that was before I met you

Late To Bloom I Am To This

Late to bloom I am to this.
An honesty revealed...
About my feelings concealed.
I thought I knew what they were,
As I told them.
I thought once described...
No one could truly hold them.
Or enfold them as I do.
Then I met you.

Late to bloom I am to this.
A stripping bare...
Of what I dare call,
A complete enthralling happiness.

Late to bloom I am to this.
But age has nothing to do...
How we two,
Me and you get to do what gets done.
With lessons learned...
I am so glad my heart awaited for this one.

Late to bloom I am to this!
And I had once admitted...
This would not happen.
This I had missed!

Write Me

Aerosmith
Write Me
Well I've been away forever, suicide's crossin' my mind,
But I'll never never never never never get so far behind.
I said, the ways of the night are evil with eyes that love the day,
but I'll never never never never never get so far away.
I said write me, write me, write me.
I said write me, write me, write me.
Well there's nothin' I can see that'd ever make
me want to be without her she's good, she's good to me.
Said there's no way to explain the kind of feeling
that you get out in the rain she's good, she's good to me.
See this emptiness inside it makes me scream
it make me crawl out of my high, she's good, she's good to me.
I love her.
Write me a letter, write me a letter, write it today, I'm goin' away.
Well I've been away forever, suicide's crossin' my mind,
But I'll never never never never never get so far behind.
Well I've been so many places hidin' from the wind and the rain,
But you could write me a letter for to save me from a goin' insane.
I said write me, write, write, write me.
Write me, write, write, write me.
Write me, write, write, write.
I said write me, write, write, write me.
Write me, write, write, write me.
Don't write me baby.

Thoughts Whirling

The need to write
Get rid of these mixes mass of thought
What to write?
Yes, something is amiss!
Talking is not enough
Yet thoughts whirling in my head
Unaware of revelling in the words
Which flow from this pen
Still no words
Not sure what to write
Yet here it is
A whole massed mess of words
For all to read
Thought this medley of words
Brought some calmness
Shoulders more relaxed
Fragments of each thought
Clear as daylight
This muddled mass of thoughts
A verse created
By, a whirling mind
