Soon after I was born, my parents moved to the South Florida area, and I've lived here ever since (with a few years of living in both Portugal and Brazil in my younger days).
I counseled many returning missionaries. I interviewed 1,700 missionaries all over the world. My advice to them is that you should study and prepare for your life's work in a field that you enjoy.

Born Poor or Born Rich
If you born poor,
It’s not your fault,
Don’t blame your parents.
If you born rich,
Thank you for your parents
Thank you God for that.
But if you don’t
Do something about it,
Do anything about it,
It is the biggest sin
In your life.

A person like myself, born and raised in the inner city of Atlanta, Georgia, to lower-middle-class parents. But I had the opportunity to get an education, to go and earn a commission in the United States Army, to serve for 22 years, to lead men and women in combat.

So Any Team As Such
Though Brazil has the class and Brazil has the flair
Who wins the F I F A World cup i can't say i much care
'Tis more about Nationalism than 'tis about sport
So any team as such i do not support.
The top soccer players are paid millions a year
And stories of their greatness we are obliged to hear
Millions in money for just chasing a ball
It hardly does seem for to make sense at all.
When people are homeless and dying of hunger every day
Yet many spend their savings watching millionaires play
For selves, Nation and glory in the World's biggest game
Many find satisfaction in other people's fame.
If the money they spent on creating millionaires
And making small gods of renowned soccer players
Was spent on the people of assistance in need
To a better life for millions that surely would lead.
Brazil has the class and Brazil has the skill
But millions go hungry in poor old Brazil
And 'tis more about Nationalism than 'tis about sport
So any team as such i do not support

The Great Footballers Of Brazil
Unrivalled for their football skill
The great footballers of Brazil
And though they too have known of defeat
In the World Cup one of the hardest teams to beat
The present World Champions are Italy
The World's best team as most would agree
But in the showpiece of World Football
Brazil have the best record of all
To Italy the 2006 World Champions well done
They were the best and the best won
But in 2010 their title they defend
A hard task of that why pretend
And one of their main threats is surely Brazil
A team known for their football skill.

When It Hurts Enough To Cry
When it hurts enough to cry,
Like when your parents give you up, and you don't know why.
Parents just like my own,
Didn't want anything to do with me, till I was grown.
Why do some parents give up their kids,
Do they ever regret later that they did?
My parents weren't there through the teen years,
Or seeing me graduate which brought me tears.
I hardly heard I love you son,
When growing up, I can't remember having any fun.
Something my dad said has always stuck in my head,
When I was five he said he wished I was dead.
Doesn't he know my heart was torn?
I never did ask to be born.
Parents are suppose to love their kids,
And it will show later what a good job they did.
They say you can't choose your mom or dad,
Cause if I could I wouldn't be so sad.
But I always remember what Jesus said,
''Always love your mom and dad.''

The Burdensome Life
To attend my ailing parents
And conduct their funerals
To support my weak wife
And, perhaps, see off her
And to be at others’ mercy
And wait to face the death
At a time when I grew weak
Are the greatest burden
Heavier than the life led.
I wish I was not born.

Domestic Shades-10
Apartheid
---
One day born my sister to flash on my dark face
There it started to grow as we grew colourful
All dark shades fought with me
But matched my sis very well
Worried parents yet managed to get me a fair husband
But my m'-in-law felt beaten
Repenting her tongue on her youthful mockery
At my huband's early gingelly-friend
Felt a curse from dark me
But fair my parents begot their curse
All from both my grand-pas
Now I'm mellowed
It's a divine gene
Providence's pastime is separatism
No more talking of familial racism

I've inherited a sense of that loss from my parents because it was so palpable all the time while I was growing up, the sense of what my parents had sacrificed in moving to the United States, and yet at the same time, building a life here and all that that entailed.

Cool Frog
Cool Frog rock,
Gripping long stalk.
Comes from Costa Rica
Borders with Nicaragua
and also Panama.
Not Brazil, that's Rio,
Born from an embryo
Parents (like, who needs them?)
In the staff room after Parents’ Day
we used to shake our prematurely
gray heads and contemplate
the Zen-ness of our well-worn truism:
‘Parents are the least suitable
people to have children’…
EMForster said, we begin by
loving our parents; later
we judge them; rarely
if ever, do we forgive them..
The other day, some pseudo-quiz
for exposure-hungry celebs
asked, what is the most disliked
thing about parents?
and the pollsters did their thing
and found it was, their taste in music..
I guess that tells you something
about the depth of culture
though I suspect many teenagers
really think, it’s the gross, unspeakable way
that they go on having sex after we’re born…
however, this alleged poem is getting
way off track from its solemn message
which might, just might, be India’s
greatest if unproveable gift to the West
and all who whinge about their parents and
what they did and didn’t do for us…:
karma: that the way you lived your previous life
fixed it via the absolute computer that
you were born in the most propitious
time and place and parentage
to continue the journey of your soul
on its way to the bliss of freedom
from all worldly attachments
such as, e.g. parents; older siblings; and
the rest you’ll have to fill in for yourself
remembering of course in your compassion that
it was karma for your long-suffering parents too;
you were their justice; and they, yours..

Born To Die
Just a baby
On a doorstep
Its how they found me
Cold and hungry
Raised on hatred
Fed by strangers
As a young girl
I often wondered
Am I born to die
Never having lived
Am I born to die
Without love
In my life
People push me
Knock me down
My foster parents
Kicked me around
They brought me up on
Loneliness
I never had me
A single friend
Am I born to die
Never having lived
Am I born to die
Without love
In my life
Must be someone
In this world
Who can save me
From myself
Or am I born to die
Never having lived
Am I born to die
Without love
In my life
Am I born to die
Never having lived
Am I born to die
Without love
In my life

A Street Child
Who will care for me when i am born into this world?
For day and night i've been walking on the streets;
And i have to struggle to survive for i am a street child.
No, not even one!
For many parents do not even know their children;
And i was born into a lovely home but now,
I do live on the street as a street child.
Lust and sex,
We were born out of it;
But how many parents still know that we do exist?
How many?
They really do not care abour us,
And i have to struggle to survive on my own;
How many days more left for me?
And i have to make ends meet from the streets;
Because there is nobody around to help me,
And i have no place called home again.
A street child that i am,
And of the many rivers to cross for my survival;
How many social workers do know of our plights?
How many?
How many streets do we have to sleep on?
How many? Hopw many governmenets do we have to wait for?
How many?
Yet still i am a street child.
Who really care about us?
And who really care about me?
My parents do not even know my where about;
Right from Kwazulu Natal Province to Tingitingi,
And from Obbia to Nima!
How many do care?
I am born into this world but,
I am living on the street;
And who will care about me?
