When public access to voting is impaired or when public confidence in voting is diluted, democracy suffers and our freedom is less secure.

Of course voting is useful. But then again, I don't put a big glow to it. Voting is about as essential as washing yourself. It's something you're supposed to do. Now, you can't go around bragging, expecting to get props because you voted. That's stupid.

DOOMED DEMOCRACY
BY
JAMES BREDIN
Democracy depends on elections to make it work,
Elections depend on participation - not those who lurk,
Established politicians depend on their party to get there,
Less than half Canadians get involved in this affair.
So something is wrong and we should sit down and figure out,
Maybe mandatory voting would establish some clout,
Maybe voting for senators and High Court judges would help,
But appointees and all Parole Boards might scream and yelp?
And Parole Boards tend to let criminals out of jail,
Maybe murderers, rapists or those who couldn't make bail,
Turning our already soft justice system into junk,
While our so called Charter democracy smells like a skunk.

Perhaps the fact that we have seen millions voting themselves into complete dependence on a tyrant has made our generation understand that to choose one's government is not necessarily to secure freedom.

A democracy is two wolves and a small lamb voting on what to have for dinner. Freedom under a constitutional republic is a well armed lamb contesting the vote.

The difference between a democracy and a dictatorship is that in a democracy you vote first and take orders later; in a dictatorship you don't have to waste your time voting.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over lousy fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. Freedom, Don't Give It All Away
The media bombards, the shelter of our homes,
the crisis deepens, the worst we've ever known,
the bankers screw us over, they really have no shame,
they've done it once, now they're doing it again.
And we all know, the politicians are on the take,
but why is religion the cause, of so much hate?
a corrupt president, again fills his boots,
more children will die, as he robs and he loots.
Freedom, don't give it all away,
freedom, freedom, come what may,
freedom, a basic human right,
freedom, we can't give up tonight.
If you don't defend democracy, it won't defend you,
if you tolerate injustice, then you could be next,
no room to be complacent, they will exploit that too,
the power hungry, and fanatical religious sects.
A war is declared, once again in my name,
another world leader, wants his moment of fame,
not for the oil he says, oh give me a break!
tell us the truth for once, for pity's sake!
freedom, don't give it all away,
freedom, it's all gonna be ok,
freedom, is still within our sights,
freedom, free from fear and strife.
who's gonna pay for, reckless irresponsibility?
the government, the fat cats, or you and me?
you have to be lied to, to know the value of truth,
keep extremism at bay, with ballot and voting booth.
freedom, don't give it all away,
freedom, express yourself today,
freedom, everyone has the right,
freedom, let's all be free tonight.

Limited Choice
All politicians preen and pose.
They promise forthright honesty.
We aren’t the fools that they suppose
because we very clearly see.
That all the promises they make.
Examined closely make no sense,
they all repeat the same mistake.
Assume the public has no sense.
Your vote is all they want from you
For that they lie with practised ease.
And once elected they will do
very little which will please.
The general public as a whole.
For once aboard the gravy train
They have achieved their only goal
and treat the voters with disdain.
So think before you cast your vote
scrutinise them carefully.
Don’t be afraid to rock the boat
and rouse yourselves from apathy.
The voting system is unfair
and does not represent the views
of every voter everywhere.
We are denied the right to choose.
The form of government we need.
That’s why the country’s in a mess.
Enslaved by some out dated creed
which renders many votes worthless.
The systems rotten to the core
relies on public apathy.
We get what we deserve no more.
It’s sad but true apparently.
It needs a drastic overhaul
there is no sign that it will get.
Your vote is worth nothing at all
That is the only certain bet.
