Life is denied by lack of attention, whether it be to cleaning windows or trying to write a masterpiece.

Spring Cleaning
Clean away the cobwebs
make light of dirt and grime
wave high those feather dusters
it's now spring cleaning time
for spring's first day has broken
and those windows must be cleaned
cold winter's grey has gone away
replaced with fresher scenes
ah! the joy of such spring cleaning
oh! the joy of household life
sometimes i am the paragon
of a 1950's wife!

Cleaning Windows
Oh, the smell of the bakery from across the street
Got in my nose
As we carried our ladders down the street
With the wrought-iron gate rows
I went home and listened to jimmie rodgers in my lunch-break
Bought five woodbines at the shop on the corner
And went straight back to work.
Oh, sam was up on top
And I was on the bottom with the v
We went for lemonade and paris buns
At the shop and broke for tea
I collected from the lady
And I cleaned the fanlight inside-out
I was blowing saxophone on the weekend
In that down joint.
Whats my line?
Im happy cleaning windows
Take my time
Ill see you when my love grows
Baby dont let it slide
Im a working man in my prime
Cleaning windows (number a hundred and thirty-six)
I heard leadbelly and blind lemon
On the street where I was born
Sonny terry, brownie mcghee,
Muddy waters singin Im a rolling stone
I went home and read my christmas humphreys book on zen
Curiosity killed the cat
Kerouacs dharma bums and on the road
Whats my line?
Im happy cleaning windows
Take my time
Ill see you when my love grows
Baby dont let it slide
Im a working man in my prime
Cleaning windows...

Wistfully Watching
They explore the world
through windows,
church windows,
school windows,
two up, two down windows,
castle windows,
large windows,
small windows.
They see it all,
from blameless to guilty,
from noble to treacherous,
through windows.
From skyscraper windows,
to basement flat windows,
from paupers windows,
and palace windows
they watch, absorb, suck it in.
Later when they have grown
they will remember,
try to empathise,
rationalise
decipher the coded metaphors,
but some day
they will be demoralised
by the windows of life.
There they sit __ wistfully watching __
the children
of our times.

Distraction
Distraction
~
My attention wanders
Leaving me unable to concentrate
To focus on any given task
Pages half littered in words
Fail to bring any poem forth
I look to the window
To music or any distraction
Escape is evasive
The mind frustrated
Love is calming
I'll write about love
But love is mysterious
I lack the necessary strength
To sit and write about it
My levels of attention
Fail to complete this

Housework
Wash the dishes dear.
A bard doesn’t do dishes.
William Shakespeare did,
wrote his best work when cleaning windows,
for his wife.
I didn’t know that darling; anyway
windows look ok to me.
I didn’t mean the windows but the dishes.

Simply Lonely
He's lonely
He always is
He just wants the attention
That he never
Receives
Instead he hides
His feelings
In a guise as black as night
He uses red lines
He uses sharp edges
To hide, silently crying inside
They call him a troublemaker
He just wants the attention
That is always denied to him
His mother just sits in her room
Locked up with her boyfriend
Never paying attention
His father is no where to be found
He left years ago
No one can get close enough to see
The class clown
Just wants to have someone's
Undivided attention
To know someone
Truly cares
He's lonely
He always is
He just wants the attention
That he never
Recives

Write A Poem And Immortalize Yourself
Write a poem and they'll
Read your masterpiece for
The next five hundred years!
Write a fabulous poem and they'll
Know who you are!
Write a great majestic superlicious
Poem and immortalize yourself!
Kings and presidents live and they
Die to be the footnotes of History!
But if you write a superb poem
They'll call you the immortal
Beloved of your generation!
Write the poem of the century
And you will speak in proverbs
With the gods!

Scrub, Scrub, Rub-a dub dub
Scrub, scrub, rub-a-dub, dub
cleaning is such a chore.
Scrub, scrub, rub-a-dub, dub
cleaning's such a bore.
Washing, dusting every day,
seems there is no end.
I know that when I'm finished
it will start all over again.
Windows, floors and kitchen sinks
just can't seem to stay clean.
The kids go out. The kids come in
and there's the same old scene.
Wash the clothes. Let them dry.
Put them on to wear.
Before the day is over
there's a spot that wasn't there.
Scrub, scrub, rub-a-dub dub
when will it ever stop?
If I could find those rub-a dub men
I'd gladly give them my mop.

Home Alone Happy Without Working Computer
Home alone happy without working computer
I take my pen in hand
And slowly write these words –
Let the world click and paste and post
I am out of it for now-
I have before me an evening of any book I like
Of any page I want to write
-
Peace of Mind is one place of attention at a time-
Here weighing each word as I write
I am at home with my inner self-
I hear my own thoughts
I correct them at my own pace.
So many words and so many pages
Have been written in my life-
Now in this one
I am wholly at home
Peaceful, quiet happy
Each word a small blessing
As I write it-
This is the only poem I know
The only page I see
The only place of attention
I give myself and my soul to
At this moment.

Understanding The Lack Of What We Are
what we sorely
lack we do not
talk about, afraid
that this may lead
only to the destruction
of our bridge
our love knows
that time always
keeps its hands
moving, and we
soon accept that
this lack is part of
the house of love,
in fact, what we
lack built us the
spaces for windows
to exist for doors
to be real, and so
here we are now
still one, no one is
a shadow here,
a true soul cannot
project it...

Protest With Those Protesting
Don't get erratic
Like the people in the streets.
I say emphatically...
Help them protest
A lack of quality!
You chased the 'bling' of things.
Titles and socialites,
And what you thought a good life brings.
You laughed at me.
Because I had my hands in toilets,
And cleaning sinks.
But I owned what I did.
And learned from invested time in it!
What did you learn?
How to pick up a pink slip...
Smile and be replaced!
Don't get erratic
Like the people in the streets.
I say emphatically...
Help them protest
A lack of quality!
I can think of no one better,
Than you.
How best to discuss,
A digust with a life you knew!
I can think of no one better,
Than you.
To protest with those protesting,
How they assisted themselves
In being screwed!

For hundreds of years people have talked about artists having inspiration, but often, some persons would say, write us a symphony or write us a song, on commission. The artists would come up with a masterpiece without waiting to have their muse inspire them.

Can't Denied
things like a kiss i just can't denied
no matter how far we are
how angry we are
but once we touch
we just can't denied
the way we are holding
touching each other
kissing each other
your world is my life
your kiss is my drug
baby, how can't you see that i love you
why can't you see the love i have for you
i just can't denied your kiss
the look of your eyes
when i look through
i see crystals
i just can't denied
i tried
but tears fall from my eyes
can't denied

My neighbours call me the girl of the south
they call me here the girl of the south
even though I have spent half of my life in the north
they know I have two homelands
and that 'mine' live somewhere else
they are more sensitive to my winters that I am
the other day as I complained that
these minus memorable 25 are too much for me
that the heaters are too small
and the windows in a terrible condition
8 p.m. my neighbor rings at my door
his wife told him about the south girl's problems
with all the tools to replace the missing door handle
tapes for tightening up the windows
I watched the magic at work
and thought that the most treasureable kindness comes
when you least expect it
and I though that people are masterpiece poems
which of course I never told my neighbor
he'd thing the south brain got frozen

An Escape
as reality gets too harsh
we get confused but we do not just stop right there
we have still these remaining instincts to please ourselves
to survive
we learn how to play
when denied of the backyards
and the fields and the hills and the rivers
we take the four sides of the room
and make our own little world
when denied of their speech
we use our own and then then when they face us
they shall be frightened
we are alive we have our own language
we write an essay on how we have won
we compose the poem
that proclaims our own greatness
the paintings and sculptures
our faces our bodies
not theirs
we were denied an entrance and so we made our own
we escape from their clutches and found our own hands.

Dont Be Denied
When I was a young boy,
My mama said to me
Your daddys leavin home today,
I think hes gone to stay.
We packed up all our bags
And drove out to winnipeg.
When we got to winnipeg
I checked in to school.
I wore white bucks on my feet,
When I learned the golden rule.
The punches came fast and hard
Lying on my back in the school yard.
Dont be denied, dont be denied.
Dont be denied, dont be denied.
Dont be denied, dont be denied.
Well pretty soon I met a friend,
He played guitar.
We used to sit on the steps at school
And dream of being stars.
We started a band,
We played all night.
Dont be denied, dont be denied.
Dont be denied, dont be denied.
Dont be denied, dont be denied.
Oh canada
We played all night
I really hate to leave you now
But to stay just wouldnt be right.
Down in hollywood
We played so good
The businessmen crowded around
They came to hear the golden sound
There we were on the sunset strip,
Playing our songs for the highest bid.
We played all night
The price was right.
Dont be denied, dont be denied.
Dont be denied, dont be denied.
Dont be denied, dont be denied.
Well, all that glitters isnt gold
I know youve heard that story told.
And Im a pauper in a naked disguise
A millionaire through a business mans eyes.
Oh friend of mine
Dont be denied.

Write Away
You need love, write a letter, you need love write away
Get it down, youll feel better, send it now, write away
Hey cinderella, did you need that other fella?
On the wrong side of midnight your defences slipped away
You need attention, so I think its worth a mention
That if I can deliver
Well there wouldnt be no heavy price to pay
You need love, write a letter, you need love write away
Get it down, youll feel better, send it now, write away
You need love, write a letter
You need love write away
If you need to feel better, do it now, now, now write away

I want to write
I want to write, something nice, but nothing comes to mind. Today words are unkind and will not come out from where they normally hide.
Today I want to write, write something nice, and make someone smile, to look forward to a lovely day and an even more an exciting night.
Words of the powerful mind, tell me where you hide, where in the world can I find, find you to create a masterpiece, burn paper with ink, write till I no more blink, as you take me to a place of so many tears, peaceful sleeps, sorrow, happiness, and enchanted dreams…
I want to write, something nice, but nothing comes to mind. Words have deserted me, why are they so unkind and will not come out from where they normally hide…

I could draw Bloom County with my nose and pay my cleaning lady to write it, and I'd bet I wouldn't lose 10% of my papers over the next twenty years. Such is the nature of comic-strips. Once established, their half-life is usually more than nuclear waste.
