And, you know, my dad would show me some things sometimes, but the best things that I got to do were to actually see really good players play up close. That gives you an idea of fingering and technique and what not.

Good Things!
It's never too late to do good things...
When those good things come,
To be done!
It should never be a decision made,
Whether to show gratitute...
Whenever an attitude,
Is moody when it comes.
Do it...
No one loses!
It's never too late to show someone there,
You think of them just because you care.
Thinking they will know what it is you feel...
Does little for the one,
Who believes no one is aware...
With feelings that are real.
'How could they,
When they aren't there shown or spoken? '
And it's always a good sign...
To release and let things go!
When doubt is removed,
And your mind has approved
The doing is true and it can be proposed.
Hesitation for you will seldom come to show!
Knowing for you that good is in the doing,
And pursuing it from head to toe...
Has you moving.,
Reaping as you sow.
It's never too late to do good things...
When those good things come,
To be done!
Always contemplate good things,
And good things you did...
Makes those good things done grow!

We can use techniques in modifying things, in controlling things, but the first impulse has to be something that you simply cannot make just out of technique, or else it becomes perfectly evident that it is nothing but technique that you're exercising.

Take Me With You
(released as b-side of we wait and we wonder cd single, 1994)
If you see the light on in the window of my room
Ill be looking out though the shades are drawn
If you should hear someone quietly calling out for your hair
Dont be alarmed it might just be me
Take me with you, take me there
Ill go with you anywhere
Show me all the things you know
Are you with me, are you there
Ill be with you everywhere
Show me all the things you know, you know, you know, you know
The sun always seems to shine on the other side of the mountain
The water is clearer on the other side of the hill
All that water comes to me, ooh as I lay down
Where I am is where I should be
Take me with you, take me there
Ill go with you anywhere
Show me all the things you know - oh
Are you with me, are you there
Ill be with you everywhere
Show me all the things you know
Im holding them close to me
All those things I learned
But theres no questions and answers
So we watch the candle burn, on and on
So the candle burns all night, burns so bright until morning
When I wake I find myself alone
So if you see me - are you here? - hear someone cry, calling out
Rescue me and take me home - take me home
Take me with you, take me there
Ill go with you anywhere
Show me all the things you know - you know
Take me with you, take me with you
Take me with you, take me with you
Show me all the things you know
Please show me
Please take me, show me
Just take me, show me...

Sonnet: We Need God’s Blessings in All Things We Do
You need to plan in advance, well in life,
To do a lot of things you undertake;
No one predicts when comes our unique strife;
You ought to know the technique to bake cake.
Man’s planning is not very accurate;
The human mind is good but not too good;
Depends on weather, how you navigate;
More things can go awry, if bad is mood.
Though you may plan and do things so perfect,
God’s blessings must be there to bring success;
All things are wrought by not man’s intellect;
God’s help can make problems surely less.
You plan and toil to achieve many things;
But pray to God to bless your work, earthlings!

Michael was a rare breed. There's no question about that. He did things that a lot of players could never do, and still to this day players can't do those things, so the honors that he's had are definitely deserved.

The Farewell Sestina
It was Walter Cronkite, wasn't it, who said,
'And that's the way it is, ' at the end of the show,
safe in the knowledge he had done his job well
and standing by for all the other things
that needed to be done at close of day-
how utterly unlike the way I am.
The time has come to wonder who I am;
it is time to say what has not yet been said.
When the skulking shade of graduation day
comes to end this last picture show,
I will relfect on all the many things
I've done; I hope I'll find I did them well.
There were times I overslept and felt unwell
(blame the reckless partier I am) .
And I remember saying all those hateful things
which now I wish that I had never said;
and my utter inability to show
some inner sunshine through my cloudy day.
But now and then I found a better day,
where friends were met and I kept them very well,
and the game, the class, the television show
turned me into who I seldom am:
'the boy at the party last night who said,
as I recall, the most delightful things.'
All in all, I'll miss so many things:
eating at Ray on chicken nugget day;
the funny thing Professor Quinlan said;
the springtime flowers, watered very well
as if to shout to tour guides, 'Here I am! '
and waiting for the autumn leaves to show.
What is yet to come, no looking back can show;
the future holds for us mysterious things.
But I won't change; I like the way I am-
it simply took 'til graduation day
to grasp my truth and draw once more from the well
the sacred ink of all that has been said.
In this show that is my life, the hero said
at close of day, 'This is the way I am:
bound for better things, and so, farewell.'

Say Yes
[Verse 1:]
I wanna show you how I feel
Don't hold back
Heres my love
Baby you're the one for me
How can we get down tonight
No more game lets spend some time
Baby won't you give it to me
Jus give it to me baby
[Chorus:]
You don't know what
You do to me
The way you touch baby
([Slim:] Girl I'm tired of playing games are you ready)
I love it when you're on top of it
So spread it
([Slim:] Won't u just give it to me, girl we can do it)
Hot and wet
Girl u make me wanna sweat
When u touch me like that
Girl you know I wanna give it to you
[2x]
[Verse 2:]
Baby now it's getting late
Don't stop now
I can't wait
To show u belong to me
Know how I like it
Take your time
Close your eyes
Let me show you what real love should be
[Repeat Chorus]
[Ludacris:]
Now baby you don't work if u work it
Tweak it twork it
I feel like your every imperfection is perfect
Luda yea what you heard is true
I'll make u do things you ain't even know you can do
Got them weak in the knees cuz my back is strong
And you wonder why your girls wanna tag along
Cuz them birds are jealous
My words are embellish
Plus they heard I kiss every curve and crevice
I'm too hot to handle
I rock your mantle
When I play 112 and light 16 candles
Deep sea fishing in your favorite position
Everytime you moan I pay close attention
Flip 'em like a pancake
Show me something
Or we can bring in your vibrating tongue ring
Lets mountain climb 'til we reach the peak
The technique will make u sweat
But don't sweat the technique-aca

Then You Turn Away
I didnt want to see you
Not when youre at your best
And talk about the weather
I couldnt pass the test
So many things I do
So many things I say
Give you the wrong idea
So many things I do
So many things I say
Just make a fool of me
Then you turn away
Then you turn away
I couldnt help but call you
I waited almost all the week
I didnt want to hear you
Laughing aloud at me
So many things I do
So many things I say
Give you the wrong idea
So many things I do
So many things I say
Just make a fool of me
Then you turn away
Then you turn away
Theres people saying that its obvious
That Im wasting my time on you
And people saying that its obvious
That Ive fallen in love, its not true
So many things I do
So many things I say
Give you the wrong idea
So many things I do
So many things I say
Just make a fool of me
Then you turn away
Then you turn away

Let Us Learn How To Play!
Life is a game,
Full of anxiety,
Full of excitement,
Who is the player?
I, you and we are players
if we are all players,
for what we play?
For what we have to play?
For money or name,
Or to gain some toys
to feel only more pain?
We take nothing at the end,
trophies and medals,
will not have meaning,
why we run here and there,
Jump and hop,
laugh and weep, Why we strive to win?
We never know causes,
Whose effect is this life?
We don't know our cause here,
And we talk of causes!
What cause may take us where?
Useless to think, just play your game!
Find the player
who play and enjoy all alone,
Creating own ground and arena,
He plays and enjoys the game,
so many things bring us shame,
Our own thoughts and deeds,
Who is enemy of us greater than these?
Let him play his game,
Pray him for rest,
sit and meditate at his feet,
Or get the yellow card for wrong play!
Anyway find a way to sit aside,
Let others play,
let us rest a while,
Watch and learn how to play!

I was also lucky to play for an owner, Bud Selig, who truly cared about his players. He'd call me into his office once in a while when he knew things weren't going so well. And it's funny. Every time I left there I always felt like something good was about to happen.

To be good is a technique.
Man’s business in the world is to exist;
To be good is also a technique worth.
Man’s caution in his action is safety;
To be nice is a technique well suited.
Man’s purpose in life is to have a mate;
To be kind is a technique well employed.
To be good is no more a sacrifice,
But a means adopted to stay afloat.
The rose has developed a way to thrive,
Other than the one pursued by the cactus.

An Idea
An Idea can change the world, how many
things can be done from an idea, every piece
of object was an idea, sense the beginning of
time idea was the first thought created in the
mind, an idea is what surround’s every being.
But an idea is still only an idea and it can't be
felt, you cannot touch an idea or kiss it, or hold it,
ideas do not bleed or feel pain or love, an idea
cannot be seen or heard, its created in our thoughts,
but then again an idea can become real. An idea
can be what ever you which it to be, an idea can
be destructive, an idea can be brilliant, I've seen
people get killed in the name of ideas, ideas,
we walk around with a little
light bulb blinking in our thoughts, ideas.

Doin' The Things That We Want To
The other night we went to see Sam's play
doin' the things that we want to
It was very physical it held you to the stage
doin' the things that he wants to
Doin' the things that he wants to
The guy's a cowboy from some rodeo
doin' the things that he wants to
The girl had once loved him, but now she want to go
doin' the things that she wants to
Doin' the things that she wants to
The man was bullish, the woman was a tease
doin' the things that they want to
They fought with their words, their bodies and their deeds
doin' the things that they want to
When they finished fighting, they exited the stage
doin' the things that they want to
I was firmly struck by the way they had behaved
doin' the things that they want to
Doin' the things that they want to
hey
It reminds me of the movies Marty made about New York
(doin' the things that he wants to)
Those frank and brutal movies that are so brilliant
(doin' the things that he wants to)
";True Love"; meet ";The Raging Bull";
(doin' the things that he wants to)
They're very inspirational, I love the things they do
(doin' the things that he wants to)
Doin' the things that I want to
There's not much you hear on the radio today
(doin' the things that we want to)
But you could still see a movie or a play
(doin' the things that we want to)
Here's to ";Travis Bickle"; and here's ";Johnny Boy";
(doin' the things that we want to)
Growing up in the Mean Streets of New York
(doin' the things that we want to)
I wrote this song 'cause I'd like to shake your hand
(doin' the things that we want to)

The Good Things
Demo version, from mayor of simpleton single.
Released in 1989.
Four-track recording.
Though your heart desires the things that money can buy
Emptiness lies through the glass, I shield your eyes
Theres nothing out there for you, my dear
Theres nothing out there for you
Let me tell you about the good things
The good things
I know your head is full of big ideas
You aint missing anything, have no fear
I have touched the grass so green on the other side
It will grieve you and deceive you with disguise
Theres nothing out there for you, my dear
Theres nothing out there for you
Let me tell you about the good things
The good things
I know you pine for things you see in magazines
That world brings heartache, now its not real, believe me
Remember all of those good things
You know you cant buy all those good things
