We wanted to guide the musicians, so we could create our own sound. We would never let the band just go in and play the chord sheets. We were very focused on what we had in mind for these productions.

The shows are so different from each other, depending on whether I play with my band, Nine Stories, other musicians, an orchestra, only one or two members of my band.

Rock music is nothing like country, jazz, pop, reggae, and classical.
Rock music is something that is like a band in your head
Rock music is nothing like every other kind of music.
That now has gotten an encore.
Rock Music is something that real people can only hear;
Rock music does not allow posers to hear the real sound.
Rock music may have head bangers, stoners,
Even one of those old guys with the sharpie-d walking canes in the corner.
But Rock music allows only real followers.
Rock music is much like age;
Even though many bands may be getting paid in age, they will still be remembered.

He can't see, he is blind

I've always thought that actors wanted to be pop musicians and pop musicians wanted to be actors.
When we first met, I was trying to put a band together. I asked around at school for other guys who wanted to play in a band. Someone told me about a juvenile delinquent they knew who played bongos.

I didn't know that you were supposed to tune the guitar to an open chord, and I learned to play slide with a normal tuning. I think it's a little more melodic that way and doesn't sound so bluesy. Of course, if I could play like David Lindley or Ry Cooder, I'd be a happy man!

From the time I moved to San Francisco in 1967 to play with the Steve Miller Band, there was a lot of support in the music community for one cause or another, but this one was special because it was put on by people who understood where musicians' hearts are.

A lot of musicians aren't proud; they'll do other work, just to be able to play music. I guess that's the way it's always going to be - musicians will have to suffer to a certain degree in order to obtain their outlet.
