Or Existence

look at you
you take pride of myriad leaves
of branching twigs
of a sturdy trunk

you are saying you are
well rooted
and strong and no
wind is good enough
to uproot you

look at me
i have no roots
i am bald for i have not
a single leaf
from my imaginary
branches
from my twigs which you say
do not exist at all

you laugh and take pride
with what you are
and what you own andwhat you keep

i am invisible and i have no word
that i own

i am not even a wind
since i do not touch your leaf
and cannot let you feel

i do not doubt that it is my mere silence
that horrifies you

and i thank myself
for just being this way

i have no name
i have no self
i merely pass by
and i do not come
back

and so beyond myself and all these
you are nothing too

as i perceived myself to be
not a wind not a sound
nothing about roots

or existence.

Single Is Fair

Single
I am single
Question of double
Does not arise.

I am single
Only single.

Single sun
Single moon
Single earth
Single air
Single sky
Sngle water
Single fire
Single soul
Single body
All are there
All are fair.
Single is single
Single is beautiful
Single is fair.

Trimming The Trees, Pruning The Twigs....

on the tree of life
there will be more leaves
and twigs and flowers
on spring
and more luscious fruits
for eating

there is somehow a
need for trimming
what excesses are there
twigs that go awry
leaves that lush for too much
shade
and so we do just that
cut some twigs
take a look and cut some
more
remove some leaves
for sacrifices
for us to some more
and some time
see heaven for once.

Oh Ellen To Play Fun Sticks With You.

What a love and joy to see you,
Your blond hair shines in the sun,
Your smile doth capture my heart strings,
We are going to have such fun

Gran dad walkies you say to me,
As you tightly hold my hand,
Let’s go play hide and seek,
Under this tree I will count and stand,

A bridge over the stream in the wood let’s look,
I will gather some twigs for Fun sticks we will play,
We both throw our Fun sticks into the brook,
Whose twig will be first under the bridge this way?

Such fun and so delightful,
We have had such a lovely day,
We are so exhausted,
And you are so tired and need your sleep,

I feel we are so lucky,
To have a grand daughter like you,
And also such a daughter,
Who made sure we got to know you,

Such a love so overwhelming,
So sure so strong so true,
One thing I will always remember,
Is when I played Fun Sticks with you?

The Fagot

Observe the dying father speak:
Try, lads, can you this bundle break?
Then bids the youngest of the six
Take up a well-bound heap of sticks.
They thought it was an old man's maggot;
And strove, by turns, to break the fagot:
In vain: the complicated wands
Were much too strong for all their hands.
See, said the sire, how soon 'tis done:
Then took and broke them one by one.
So strong you'll be, in friendship ty'd;
So quickly broke, if you divide.
Keep close then, boys, and never quarrel:
Here ends the fable, and the moral.
This tale may be applied in few words,
To treasurers, comptrollers, stewards;
And others, who, in solemn sort,
Appear with slender wands at court;
Not firmly join'd to keep their ground,
But lashing one another round:
While wise men think they ought to fight
With quarterstaffs instead of white;
Or constable, with staff of peace,
Should come and make the clatt'ring cease;
Which now disturbs the queen and court,
And gives the Whigs and rabble sport.
In history we never found
The consul's fasces were unbound:
Those Romans were too wise to think on't,
Except to lash some grand delinquent,
How would they blush to hear it said,
The praetor broke the consul's head!
Or consul in his purple gown,
Came up and knock'd the praetor down!
Come, courtiers: every man his stick!
Lord treasurer, for once be quick:
And that they may the closer cling,
Take your blue ribbon for a string.
Come, trimming Harcourt, bring your mace;
And squeeze it in, or quit your place:
Dispatch, or else that rascal Northey
Will undertake to do it for thee:
And be assured, the court will find him
Prepared to leap o'er sticks, or bind them.
To make the bundle strong and safe,
Great Ormond, lend thy general's staff:
And, if the crosier could be cramm'd in
A fig for Lechmere, King, and Hambden!
You'll then defy the strongest Whig
With both his hands to bend a twig;
Though with united strength they all pull,
From Somers, down to Craggs and Walpole.

Robbin Tree

The Robin begins to build her nest
in the gnarled tree;

the twigs are twisted;

the branches lack leaves;

and the nest is exposed
offering no shelter.

She puts another twig
into the tree fork;
but it falls to the ground.

She looks away west
and leaves.

Her wings
flapping
out a message:

Nature is abandoning us.

Bundle of Joy

oh sweet precious one
you are my little bundle of joy
a miracle sent from above
for me to give my love
a little babe in my arms
when once you were in my womb
a tiny little babe
new to this world secure in my arms
i will never let you go
even when you grow up
for no matter how old you are
you will always be my little bundle of joy
i've always wanted this chance
to be your mommy
this chance to hold you close
and feel your heart beat
in time with mine
oh my sweet little babe
life will be so grand and neat
with you in this world with me
i will always love you
my little bundle of joy

When Your Lonely Heart Breaks

When your lonely heart breaks
Dont sit counting your mistakes
Dont be waiting for love to come back
Dont be wastin time
Dont be lost in crime
When your lonely heart breaks
When your lonely heart breaks.
Whats your problem, shes gone
Youre still movin, movin on
You got memories, she got strong
Theres a lot of things
That arent gone
When your lonely, lonely heart breaks
When your lonely heart breaks.
When your lonely heart breaks
Dont be cryin for good times you had
When your lonely heart breaks.
When your lonely heart breaks
Dont sit counting your mistakes
Dont be waiting for love to come back
Dont be wastin time
Dont be lost in crime
When your lonely, lonely heart breaks
When your lonely, lonely heart breaks
When your lonely heart breaks.

When Happiness Comes...

at the other end of the world
when my morning is her night
she just wrote some notes, and
reminded me...

about another casualty,
the failing light, the fading sunset
the shrinking spirit,
the falling leaf, the broken twig,
the rotting trunk
the muddy ground...

i cannot sleep that night
this is always the negative thing at the other end of this border...

somehow i fly away from myself
to have a date with some fireflies
above the tree that has so many leaves
strong twigs, invulnerable roots
fungus free, hard barks,
strong, tall and proud

beside this is the river
lots of ripples and such a comforting sound of flowing water
it is leaving on a long journey
and i am left

there must be something positive about life
those stars speak a lot in their distant silence

the moon is so beautiful tonight
and the sky has freed all the dark clouds

somehow
i must speak of love and its seductions
its progeny of hope and courage

life has so much to offer
how can i contain these stars in a bowl?

the refrigerator is too small for
frozen happiness
the window is too tight for those that are coming
the door too narrow

the floor does not have that width
the ceiling that length

how can one compress happiness in
just one page?

is there joy in one syllable?

Single Day

Not a single day goes by..........
Where she is not in his thoughts
Not a single day goes by..........
Where his heart does not feel
Not a single day goes by..........
Where he does not want to reach out
Not a single day goes by..........
Where he dreams of his love for her
Not a single day goes by..........
Where he does not dream of kissing her
Not a single day goes by..........
Where he does not dream of holding her
Not a single day goes by..........
Where he does not ask. Why?
Not a single day goes by..........
Where she is not his first thought on waking.
Not a single day goes by..........
Where she is not his last thought before sleeping.
Not a single day goes by..........

Painters

In the cave with a long-ago flare
a woman stands, her arms up. Red twig, black twig, brown twig.
A wall of leaping darkness over her.
The men are out hunting in the early light
But here in this flicker, one or two men, painting
and a woman among them.
Great living animals grow on the stone walls,
their pelts, their eyes, their sex, their hearts,
and the cave-painters touch them with life, red, brown, black,
a woman among them, painting.

Bobbing

when the crow
lands on the twig

the weight
pushes the twig

down almost
reaching the ground

the bobbing
somewhat intrigues

the senses of the
caterpillar on the leaf

the tree frowns
upon a black alien

some leaves fall
and the grass as usual

keeps its silence
as the air passes by

The Prey

early this morning
when i go out of my room
into a garden of trees
and stones
there with all fidelity
the spider is
spinning its web again
in the most usual
and visible manner
connecting a transparent
line from a twig
to another twig of the same
tree

soon another fly
or mosquito shall be caught
as its
unwary prey
the victim never learns
a thing.

When love is dead

You cut a twig
The leaves wilt
And then you say
Love is dead

I plant the twig
And bury the leaves
I dream of flowers
I wait for days

A bud springs
Then love is alive

A Single Black Rose

A single Black Rose to turn the tide
A single Black Rose to make one die
A single Black Rose to ensnare the soul
A single Black Rose to widen that hole

A single Black Rose to melt the heart
A single Black Rose to force a start
A single Black Rose to entwine the bodies
A single Black Rose to dictate the deaths of these

A single Black Rose to lie upon her breast
A single Black Rose to stop the tears from soaking his vest
A single Black Rose to mourn this memory
A single Black Rose to become a plot in this cemetery

A single Black Rose to take a life
A single Black Rose to end his strife.

A Black Single Rose.

A single black rose.
A single black rose to carry the load,
A single black rose to turn the road,
A single black rose to touch the soul,
A single black rose to widen your hole,
A single black rose to melt your heart,
A single black rose to force a start,
A single black rose to make you cry,
A single black rose to make you dry,
A single black rose to help you climb,
A single black rose to make you lie,
A single black rose to take a life,
A single black rose to take away strife.
