I was able to get along with everybody. I really enjoyed all of those guys. They were unique in their own ways, and I think that's what made the sport fun. We had a great time laughing and having fun.
The sportsman knows that a sport is a recreation, a game, an amusement and a pastime, but his eyes are fixed on a higher goal, on the most important thing in his life, which is his education or his vocation.

Technique is the basis of every pursuit. If you're a sportsman or you're a singer or a swimmer, well that comes under sport but you have to develop a basic technique to know what you're doing at any given time.

You will never have great tennis champions from England because of the cold and dark, but most of all because people only care about the sport for two weeks a year, and then they're on to something else. There's just not a great love of the sport there.

We continue to recognize the greater ability of some to earn more than others. But we do assert that the ambition of the individual to obtain for him a proper security is an ambition to be preferred to the appetite for great wealth and great power.

It's such a beautiful sport, with no politics involved, no color, no class. Only as a youngster can you play and as a pro can you win. The game has kept me young, involved and excited and for me to be up here with gems of baseball.
There is never a great dunghill at a sportsman's door.
When you are a professional sportsman all the guys are great competitors in the top 50.

The Sport I Love
Like any other sports
this is the one I choose,
I love, and I have been playing.
the sport I want to be belong.
That is soccer.! ! !
Playing this game
have been giving me an event
that is hard to forget.
It is exciting right! ! !
And therefore
I do not know how
could I leave this sport.
Of which is this sport
help me to build my stamina,
meet a lot of friends, and
also this sport taught me
how to act as a human being,
in order to have a discipline
not only in this sport
but also in the community
as well as in a situation.
It help a lot in me right! ? ,
therefore i must not have to forget
as well as to leave this sport
but to love this sport forever..
I love soccer.! .

My dream as a youngster was to be like Olivier. To be a great stage actor. To be a great Shakespearean actor. To me that is the Olympics of acting.

Sicker Soccer
The £10,000 a week defender can’t quite
catch the £20,000 striker who's got
the ball at his nimble, expensive feet, the stadium yelling
fit to raise the roof – what does he do? why,
he pulls the striker’s shirt, of course…; the ref, the commentators
remain silent. We, we were told off at nursery classes,
for pulling little Johnny’s shirt… I mean, for Pele’s sake,
what is this about? ! ..
then at the end of the game (one side’s got to win,
you’d think the fans are like they used to be,
paid good money to watch a good match)
the managers spit out their gum, pat each other on the back
whilst walking away, and not looking each other in the eye…
none of that love of the game stuff, the sparkling eyes
of those who love their sport, shaking hands
with a worthy opponent…ha…
and as for cricket – ‘sledging’ – can you believe it?
making sneery remarks to the batsmen while you stand in close…
never happened when sport was something you
enjoyed, loved to do, enjoyed the challenge and the company…
‘oh it’s all in good fun’… yeah?
tennis, being one-on-one, ain’t so bad; psych yourself up
but put the venom in your shots; but then,
when the match ends, run up to the net (or so they
used to) , eyes meet, shake hands, a few words? not
so often – shake hands without making
eye-contact, off to thank the umpire who's
up there out of reach…
it’s like some sorta natural law: when sport is a game
like life, the game’s the thing, and well-played, sir; pay
your ‘sportsmen’, your mercenaries, in the name
of ‘popular entertainment’ and big business, and
something disappears, as revenues increase;
how long before poetry becomes
a ‘spectator sport’ with a World Slam League out there
and TV rights?

Hard Goals
Goals shake to progress and concisely
Play the reality of sport and soccer;
Yes, the goal of our life is the aim,
And the aim hates us when hard.
Hardness strengthens, lifting weights
To guide the sportsman, and all his muscle
Into lifting more weights and really working.
These aims of mine work longer
Than usual, to state us is exact.
These aims jog the memory to be exact
Afterwards and before.

Experiments In The Rain
O to construct experiments and cry,
Just to lie in front of the king.
Rain has fallen from high in the sky,
Water so acidic the scientists want to bellow
Insults at a passer-by, the one who constructs.
His entrance into the view high upon the balcony
Is followed by a fall to the ground so slowly
It breaks his head finally.
Enough of this time with this spectator of sport,
They are steaming with fury at the belittlement
Of this strange sportsman of the little kind.
O to reside in this game for long is too sensible
That we sometimes cry for more pain the longer we play.

Good Ambition
Ive spent eleven months and five days loving you
And all these times Ive spent forgiving you
I dont want to be hurt
I dont want to be hurt
I dont want to be hurt
Not any more
Im a man with a good ambition
And I will never let you drag me down
You better go home and leave me alone
Im a man with a good ambition
And I will never let you drag me down
So baby go home
And leave me alone
Ive got a good, good, good ambition
Tell you its a good, good, good ambition
Ive got a good, good, good ambition
Tell you its a good, good, good ambition
Ive got a good, good, good ambition
Tell you its a good, good, good ambition
