And when I met Cecil Taylor it was a complete transformation of musical identities. All the tenets that I had grown up with were thrown out the window.

I think I came across Cecil Taylor a bit later, in 65 or 66. That really impressed me - Cecil Taylor is an amazing character... Both his music and the way he approaches the instrument are astonishing.

Transmigration of Souls
My mind is crystal clear
With unadulterated desire
For metamorphosis.
I’ve grown weary
With whom I am
As a man
And the paltry history
Of an insignificant existence.
Walking down a busy street,
I’d like to gaze into a shop window
And smile to not recognize my reflection.
The greatest scientific discovery
Will not be eternal youth
But complete transformation
From one soul into another.

Sealion Ii
Would you like to see my lion
My friend cecil is damp and smooth
A damp smooth sea lion
Yes, cecil is a sea lion
(cecil is a sea lion)
Cecil is a clever sea lion
Cecil sometimes swims
And often sits
(and balances multicolored striped balls? )
Yes, balances multicolored striped balls
Clever cecil
(cecil is a sea lion)
Cecil the sea lion is serene
He doesnt wear spectacles or a scarf
(no central heating or cement)
Well [but? ] the whole ocean is cecils home
(cecil is a sea lion)

The Faith of Baha'i
We cling to multiple identities;
Such identities impel us to show
Loyalties based on identities.
Multi-loyalties bring conflict in us.
Loyalties propel us to side or fight.
Religions and politics take much toll.
Language and territories are not behind.
Racial identities still raise their heads.
Leave identities; leave loyalties.
Both tell that you are led by prejudices.
A world community formed without them
Is what Baha'u'lla'h preached as his faith.

Mistaken identities
Prejudices come from mistaken identities.
Faith and belief stand from mistaken identities.
Actions are taken from such wrong identities.
Victims are mounting without a recluse.

The Devil's Sweets
The Devil’s sweets
This afternoon
I waited too soon
and let you in a secret
I hope you can keep it
I saw you sucking on the devil’s sweets
like a chocolate treat
if Dracula were around
it would make a sound
that would make the transformation complete
Don’t go
Don’t ignite the flame
Don’t spread the blame
Don’t wait
Why don’t you hesitate..
Anymore?
Like a vampire you sucked it in like a drug
don’t even come to give me a hug
because you’ve already left for the devil’s sweets
instead of me, you go to those chocolate treats
You are the spawn of Satan
Hell is your only safe haven
because you’ve tasted the devil’s sweets
your transformation is complete.

So, I was just a young guy, maybe with an idea, and Cecil Taylor, himself a rebel, would take a chance on a guy like me. It turned out to be a very symbiotic partnership. I learned a lot from him.

Look at us...
These signs of silence,
Are the reasons of urn absence.....
Yearning for your embrace,
And feel your sweet grace,
Resting by the fireplace..........
Look at us, where we are,
So grown, and bizarre…
Look at us, what we are,
Like the strings of a musical guitar...
We’re in love, we're determined,
to our love, life and so defined...
Sun is shining in the sky,
You're arms, that's where I’m gon' die...
Our love is so clean,
Unusual, nobody has seen,
I’m gon'nestle it & make it endlessly green....
Look at us, where we are,
So grown, and bizarre…
Look at us, what we are,
Like the strings of a musical guitar...
We’re in love, we're determined,
to our love, life and so defined...
You belong to me,
No matter where, we'll be...
You are always mine,
My love, my sunshine.....
Look at us, where we are,
So grown, and bizarre…
Look at us, what we are,
Like the strings of a musical guitar...
We’re in love, we're determined,
to our love, life and so defined...

Transformation Comes
Transformation comes,
To push forward...
From what has been done.
Sometimes paining with a laborious birth,
Endured.
Insuring something new...
That is introduced as glorious,
And pure.
Transformation comes.
And people do adapt to embrace this change.
Very few can block or stop it.
Or insist what had been 'before' accepted,
Remains the same.
But with each season that begins a fresh start,
To end for another.
We here who witness it...
May express our opinions and have our druthers,
Fixed and stubborn.
When transformation comes...
Everyone is powerless to resist,
Its completeness.
