I was a little bit wary of playing Nicholas. In the script, which I think is true of the novel and the film, he's the only character not singing and dancing in a musical style. Playing someone who is the personification of good is a little difficult.

I need to react to a script, to feel strongly about it in some way. And I need it to be a complex character for sure. And also, I think a lot about what kind of audience there is for the film, what they're looking for and ways to connect with them in the playing of a character.

First, you do a piece of material that begins and ends and has a flow; it's not chopped up as in a film, where in an extreme case you might be doing the last scene of the script the first day that you go to work, and you don't know enough about the character you're playing.

A Dance For Relief!
Dancing is an art that makes one forget all worries;
Dancing to a tune relieves one a while from tensions;
Dancing according to music makes one really free!
Dancing and singing make one enjoy pleasure fine.
Dancing, singing and playing music makes one divine!
Shaking of body, hands and legs beautifully is dance;
Sake dance, break dance, clap dance are all real fun!
Dancing makes one healthy and beautiful life long!
Dancing is a balancing art as the Stars do in the Universe!
Dancing for balance is beauty that attracts all to dance
And make the company joyous to forget time and worries.
So, man visualized God as Divine Lord of Dance to dance!
Dancing, singing and playing music is a wonderful art
Poetry has prompted man to visualize and realize in life!

World In Motion (Subbuteo Mix)
ENGLAND NEW ORDER - 'WORLD IN MOTION'
=====================================
Express yourself
Create the space
You know you can win
Don't give up the chase
Beat the man
Take him on
You never give up
Its one on one
Express yourself
Its one on one
Express yourself
Its one on one
Express yourself
You can't be wrong
When somethings good
Its never gone
Loves got the world in motion
And I know what we can do
Loves got the world in motion
And I can't believe its true
Now is the time
Let everyone see
You never give up
Thats how it should be
Don't get caught
Make your own play
Express yourself
Don't give it away
Express yourself
Its one on one
Express yourself
Its one on one
Express yourself
You can't be wrong
When somethings good
Its never wrong
Loves got the world in motion
And I know what we can do
Loves got the world in motion
And I can't believe its true
Loves got the world in motion
And I know what we can do
Loves got the world in motion
And I can't believe its true
You've got to hold and give
But do it at the right time
You can be slow or fast
But you must get to the line
They'll always hit you and hurt you
Defend and attack
Theres only one way to beat them
Get round the back
Catch me if you can
Cos' I'm the England man
And what you're looking at
Is the master plan
We ain't no hooligans
This ain't a football song
Three lions on my chest
I know we can't go wrong
We're playing for England {In-ger-land}
We're playing the song
We're singing for England {In-ger-land}
Arrivederci its one one one
We're playing for England {In-ger-land}
We're playing the song
We're singing for England {In-ger-land}
Arrivederci its one one one
We're playing for England {In-ger-land}
We're playing the song

I'm Singing (A Song You Like) :
I'm singing and playing guitar.
I'm singing and playing guitar.
I'm singing, I'm singing a song you like..
And if you want me, and need me real bad.
Just call me.
I'm there when you want.
Just call me.
I'm there when you need my love.
I'll give you, the things that you need.
I'll give you, the things that you want.
I'll give you, the love that you need from me..
Because I'm singing and playing guitar.
I'm singing and playing guitar.
I'm singing, I'm singing a song you like.
When I give you, the love that you need.
Return, your love to me.
Return, your love to me at once..
Because I'm singing and playing guitar.
I'm singing and playing guitar.
I'm singing, I'm singing a song you like.
And when you call me.
Please want me real bad.
I need you.
I need you real bad.
I love you.
I love you for what you are.
I'm singing and playing guitar.
I'm singing and playing guitar.
I'm singing, I'm singing a song you like..

It Depends On The Situation
In the playing of games,
There are those who are less experienced...
Decide without advice taken,
To play them indiscriminately.
Without thought of who the opponent may be.
Or if the one chosen to be exposed to playing,
Has not in fact...
Elected to do so to prevent total boredom,
To hop and take a ride on one's back...
In the playing of games.
And then,
In the playing of games...
It depends on the situation.
The environment is important as well.
However...
If the playing of the same games,
Gets too familiar...
It becomes very difficult to play them,
With the same exuberance...
As those enjoying to play them repetitiously,
Throughout their lives!

I am singing in the rain......
I am singing in the rain......
When the clouds above me so dark
When the stars are not be seen in the sky
When the moon is gone away from the site
When the cool breeze being to touch me softly
When the thunder and lightening make me afraid
Then the rain begin to shower upon me
Chorus....
I am singing and dancing in the rain
I am playing and falling in the rain
What a glorious feelings that I have when its rain
When I hold you hands and walk in the rain
When you arm around my waist hold like a chain
When my umbrella being to dance in the air
When the rain water rush down to the canal
When the street lights blink on the streets
Then my love on you is singing in the rain
Chorus....
I am singing and dancing in the rain
I am playing and falling in the rain
What a glorious feelings that I have when its rain

Dancing In The Street
(are you ready to let it happen to you tonight?
Oh, yes ... do it, man ... here we go)
Calling out, round the world
Ready for a brand of beat
Were all here, time is right
Dancing in the street
There out in chicago
New york city
All we need is music, sweet music
Therell be music everywhere
Therell be ? ? ? swing
Records playing
Dancing in the street
Doesnt matter what you wear
Just as long as you are there
Come on, come on, now
Every guy grab a girl
Oh, everywhere around the world
Let it, dancing in the street, dancing
Dancing in the street, dancing
Invitation, across the nation
Chance, folks want to meet
Therell be laughing, singing
Music swinging
Dancing in the street
Philedelphia, pa
Baltimore and dc, now
All we need is music, sweet music
Therell be music everywhere
Therell be ? ? ? swing
Records playing
Dancing in the street
(all right girls, do it to me, here we go)

Playing good girls in the 30s was difficult, when the fad was to play bad girls. Actually I think playing bad girls is a bore; I have always had more luck with good girl roles because they require more from an actress.

Taxi Dancing
I think that its high time we had a talk
I think that were making a big mistake
Ive been feeling lately the magic is gone
Are we just together for convenience sake, baby
I dont believe it (feeling)
I dont think thats true (tied down)
Itll just pass if we allow it to (need to break free)
Its just a stage were going through (they say clean cuts)
I think youre just restless for something new (heal much faster)
Baby, feeling like we pay our dime
And all we get in return
Is a piece of each others time
Are we just taxi dancing
Lost somewhere in a slow dance for two
And the band that was playing
Has finally stopped playing our favorite song
Are we just taxi dancing
Youre paying for me and Im paying for you
And are we holding on to a feeling with desperation
Dont know if youre right
Dont know if youre wrong
Seems to me we havent danced for long
Dont make it hard (I wont)
Dont make it easy (hold you)
Well just walk away (if you)
At the end of the song (must go)
Baby, put one last nickel in the jukebox
Give that love we once felt
Just one final spin around
cause were just taxi dancing
Lost somewhere in a slow dance for two
And the band that was playing
Has finally stopped playing our favorite song
And were just dancing
And the band that was playing
Has finally stopped playing our favorite song
Are we just taxi dancing
Youre paying for me and Im paying for you
And are we holding on to each other in desperation
Taxi dancing

I like to rehearse with the actors scenes that are not in the script and will not be in the film because what we're really doing is trying to establish their character, and good acting to me is about reacting.

The Lounge Lizards were relating with a tradition and it was like I was playing within a musical context. The guitar playing stood out as being different in some way. That was a real education for me.

Having A Party
(sam cooke)
Yeah, clap your hands
Were having a party,
Dancing to the music
Played by the d.j.
On the radio
The cokes are in the icebox,
Popcorns on the table
Me and my baby, yeah,
Were out here on the floor, oh yeah
So, mister, mr. d.j.
Keep those records playing
Coz Im having
Such a good time,
Dancing with my baby
Everybodys swinging,
Sallys doing that twist now
If you playrequests now,
Ive got a few for you
Play that one called soul twist.
Play that one called I know
Dont forget them mashed potatoe
No other songs will do
So, mister, mr. d.j.
Keep those records playing
Coz Im having
Such a good time,
Dancing with my baby
Having a party
So, mister, mr. d.j.
Keep those records playing
Coz Im having
Such a good time,
Dancing with my baby
Having a party
Everybodys swinging
Dancing to the music
On the radio
Yeah
Were having a party
Everybodys swinging
Dancing to the music
Yeah
On the radio
Bring it way down now
Were having a party
Everybodys swinging
Dancing to the music
On the radio
Were having a party
Everybodys swinging
Dancing to the music
Where is it
On the radio
Just two more times
Were having a party
Everybodys swinging
Dancing to the music
On the radio
Were having a party
Everybodys swinging
Dancing to the music
On the radio
