I played baseball, and that's pretty much it. Basketball came late, this was, basketball was the sport that I tried to master, I kind of mastered baseball, so basketball was one of those things where I wanted to master this game, so that's why I probably play it the way I do.

I Use To Play Basketball
Do you play basketball?
'I can.
I did.
Why do you ask? '
And...
You live in Connecticut, right?
'Yes.'
I've noticed from your writing,
There is a biting that defies description.
'What has that have to do with my ability to play basketball? '
Just curious.
Your eyes are penetrating.
As if you seek a challenge from me.
'A challenge?
From 'you'?
I said...
I use to play basketball.
In my much younger days.
However...
If I had been prepared for a challenge to play games,
I would have brought along a blindfold.
That's how confident I am of winning.'

Do They Play Basketball In Heaven?
your friend who died two days ago
finally gave you the answer
yes, they play basketball in heaven
in a heavenly basketball court
and all games there are set
tomorrow you shall be
playing with them.

When I was growing up, we used to play basketball in a park that was never shoveled when it snowed. The basketball rims were never fixed. And we understood then that there was a relationship between public policy and our quality of life.

Basketball (For Devyn)
In a world of football
and baseball, too,
basketball,
is all I want to do.
I would play football,
if Mom would permit.
But she can’t stand
to see me take a hit.
But Mom loves basketball
and so do I.
I love it, live it,
I want to fly.
You should see,
what I did today!
I am going all the way,
to the NBA.
Right now, I’m still growing,
I have growing pains.
But it will be worth it,
I’m the next Lebraun James.

Basketball, in America, is like a culture. It is like a foreigner learning a new language. It is difficult to learn foreign languages and it will also be difficult for me to learn the culture for basketball here.
Shooting Hoops
When the school lets out and the shifts are done
Get the boys together get a ball get a run
Lace up the sneaks kick off them shoes
Ill admit I play to win yo cause I dont like to lose
At seger park theyve got the best competition
Good moves baby - Im the definition
They shooting hoops
Yeah yeah yeah
They playing basketball
I learned at old pine, see Im the school yard hustler
I had my hardknocks now Im an off the backboard buster
I could fake to the left penetrate like mike
Or 360 in the air as dominique might
I could pass like magic
I could shoot like the bird, after a doctor j dunk
The courtside drunk said good lord
They shooting hoops
Yeah yeah yeah
They playing basketball
Lunch from a hot dog stand a pretzel and a pop
Weve been playing all day cause weve had this court non stop
The city sun is hot - all the courts they steaming
Bright eyed yong ball handlers are believing and dreaming
Hoping some day all this playing will be paying
Thats what all the sideline junkies smoking reefer keep saying
They shooting hoops
Yeah yeah yeah
They playing basketball

Don't You?
I saw you there so beautiful
You stop and stare to magical
Then you ask me for my name
And we took an uptown train
Before you get an leave
I wanna know do you like baseball, football,
Watchin movies on sunay night?
Do you like kissing when its raining, playing basketball
You walked me home so wonderful
It starts to snow its incredible
Now we are walking up my street
And you slowly turn to me
Your just three inches from my lips
But before we do, do you like baseball, football,
Watchin movies on sunday night?
Do you like kissing when its raining, playing basketball?
Show me the places where you come from
And the places you love most
I wanna know everything you are
I need to know..
