You have to not listen to the nay sayers because there will be many and often they'll be much more qualified than you and cause you to sort of doubt yourself.

Qualified
I got a beat up piece of paper - It's a message from a king
He says - I got to get you out of here
He say - I got to let you in
'Cos I've been down the darkest road there is - I've seen the other side
I got a licence to go - Straight through your pain
Ain't no big deal - 'Cos I'm qualified - Yeah I'm qualified
Qualified in fear and pain - I'm qualified in lies and shame
I'm qualified with a broken heart
You knock me down - I get back up again
'Cos' I'm qualified
I'm qualified - To get your love
I'm qualified - To know what you're thinking of
I'm qualified - in broken dreams
I can save you from where you've been
'Cos I'm qualified
I'm qualified to make you smile
I'm qualified to save your pain
Qualified to give a real good time
Qualified to make your sun shine

What is qualified? What have I been qualified for in my life? I haven't been qualified to be a mayor. I'm not qualified to be a songwriter. I'm not qualified to be a TV producer. I'm not qualified to be a successful businessman. And so, I don't know what qualified means.

Autobiography in the Hanquerian style
We got a new class teacher this fall.
Head says we should be grateful
on account of he’s highly ‘qualified’. Guess that means
he gets paid more. So he’s the one
should be grateful. In my experience
which don’t hold for much
but which ain’t nothing neitherways:
life out here don’t pay much heed
to paper ‘qualifications’.
Now, ‘qualified’ is something
of another colour altogether. That’s earned
with a diff’rent sort of paper.
We’ll see.

Listen To The Rain
(Rain)
Listen listen
Listen listen
Listen listen
Listen listen
Listen (listen) listen (listen)
Listen (listen) listen (listen)
Listen (listen) listen (listen)
Listen listen
Listen to each drop of rain (listen listen)
Aaah
Whispering secrets in rain (listen listen)
Aaah
Frantically searching for someone to hear
That story be more than it hides
Please don't let go
Can't we stay for a while?
It's just to hard to say goodbye
Listen to the rain
Aa...ah
Listen listen listen listen listen listen to the rain
Weeping
Oo...ooh oooh ooh oo...ooh
Oo...ooh oooh oh oh
Listen (listen) listen (listen)
Listen (listen) listen
I stand alone in the storm (listen listen)
Suddenly sweet words take hold
(Listen listen)
Hurry they stay for you haven't much time
Open your eyes to the love around you
You can feel youre alone
But I'm here still with you
You can do what you dream
Just remember to listen to the rain
oo...ooh oh oh oh oh
ooh ooh oh oh oooh

No Doubt
You should know
No doubt, no doubt, no doubt, no doubt
You should know
No doubt, no doubt, no doubt, no doubt... no doubt
You should know
No doubt, no doubt, no doubt, no doubt
You should know
No doubt, no doubt
You should know by now that I really like when youre around
Its so irreplaceable, what we have with you and i
And you should know by now that we belong on each others team
One of the greatest things that came to be is you and me, you and me
I hope by now you recognize no matter what Im here for life
You aint getting rid of me, that is just the bottom line
I think you understand by now we can always work it out
No matter what, Im down, Im down
There aint no doubt that I still love you
No doubt I love you babe, really really love you babe
There aint no doubt that I still want you
No doubt I want you babe, really really want you babe
Shouldnt be no doubt that Im here for you
No doubt Im here for you, really really here for you
I have no doubt about being with you
Its me for you
Thinking back on what I did to cause you so much pain
It was such a silly thing I did to our relationship
But heres something from the heart, I really do apologize
Dont cut me off cause I really love ya
I love ya babe, love ya babe
And I want ya, I want ya babe, want ya babe
Said Im here for ya, for ya babe, for ya babe
Forever Im with you, Im with you
Baby cant you see you belong with me
Ill be here for you so Im telling you
There aint no doubt that I still love you
No doubt I love you babe, really really love you babe
There aint no doubt that I still want you
No doubt I want you babe, really really want you babe
Shouldnt be no doubt that Im here for you
No doubt Im here for you, really really here for you
I have no doubt about being with you
Its me for you
[spoken]
Look baby, I want you to know I love you
And I always will.. dont worry, cause you know...
There aint no doubt that I still love you
No doubt I love you babe, really really love you babe
There aint no doubt that I still want you
No doubt I want you babe, really really want you babe
Shouldnt be no doubt that Im here for you
No doubt Im here for you, really really here for you
I have no doubt about being with you
Its me for you
You should know
No doubt, no doubt, no doubt, no doubt
You should know
No doubt, no doubt, no doubt, no doubt... no doubt
You should know
No doubt, no doubt, no doubt, no doubt
You should know
No doubt, no doubt

Refusing Then To Listen
There were those selected and chosen,
To represent their causes.
With a reflecting of their priorities,
And interests kept protected.
There were those denied,
And deemed not qualified.
Although they produced credentials,
To prove their experiences were essential.
Today those denied,
And deemed yesterday not qualified...
Are discovered to have experiences,
That should have never been dismissed.
But time does not allow to have those yesterdays,
Replaced with a catching up to date.
And,
What could have been of benefit and useful to them,
Those refusing then to listen...
Would have been paths freed of debris with clarity.
But a patience gone from those dismissed...
Has been distanced from the ones,
Caught up in lives lived in chaos and conflicts.

Some People Listen Some People Don't
You judge me before my words can come out
You can’t even look my way
And you leave me with no doubt
You won’t listen to a word I say
And I will never be heard by you
No matter what it is that I do
Some people listen some people don’t
Some people listen some people won’t
You shut me up before I can speak
You shut me up so you can keep me weak
Now I breaking all your rules
That you have made just for me
To keep me away from my history
From my strength and my dignity
Some people listen some people don’t
Some people listen some people won’t
You don’t know how many times I have prayed
That you would hear the words that I have to say
Now get out of the way
Because we no longer have to stay in this prison of the mind
Because we find you guilty of the ultimate crime
Now get out of the way
So that they can hear what I have to say
And begin to make their plans for escape today
Even though you made me a thug,
It is out of love that I put my message out
Find your voice in school and follow the Golden Rule
And shout it out, with out a doubt
That you will be heard, until you are heard
Right down to the very last word
Some people listen some people don’t
Some people listen some people won’t

Who Is Having The Fun Here?
What are you doing?
'Give me a few seconds.
Someone has me on hold.'
On hold?
'Yes.
I've been waiting for a couple of minutes,
For someone to explain to me...
Why they believe I am not qualified.'
Qualified?
To do what?
'Qualified to have intelligence.
Because of my...
Well,
You know...
The obvious.'
Why don't you hang up the telephone?
You don't have to prove that to anyone.
'I know this.
I just want to know how long it takes them,
To respond with an answer.'
But...
Don't you know what that response will be?
'Of course I do.
But who is having the fun here? '
Checkmate!
I suggest you concentrate on the game.
It is no fun beating you when you are distracted.
'Gee...
I didn't realize they had me on hold that long.
You are right.
I should hang up before I prove my stupidity.'
Naw!
You?
You're too intelligent.

In Positions That Remain Ignored
Let's not talk about him being qualified.
Let's discuss the qualifications of those...
Who have been totally ineffective,
In positions that remain ignored...
By those who maintain control.
And allow those who claim they 'are' qualified...
To play games with semantics.
As fantasies are sustained...
On stages lit for images,
And captivating dramatics.

As If They Are Exquisite Gifts
She may not have been qualified,
To be their church organist...
For the many years she did it.
But she sure proved she was qualified,
To raise four successful kids...
In more ways than one.
And that church still sits,
Where snobs and the self righteous...
Visit as if they are exquisite gifts.

Freelanced Interpretations
So uncomfortable they are!
In their own skins.
So uncomfortable you wouldn't know it.
But listen to them passing judgement.
Listen to them quote scripture.
And begin to give their freelanced interpretations.
Listen to them denounce the lives of others.
And their choices made.
Then listen to them smugly admit,
In high self satisfied indulgence...
What they will or will not do...'IF'
The situation called for their 'qualified'
Decision making techniques!
Of course found common...
On accepted garbaged and trashed piled streets.
And...
'If' a choice made was not taken upon their advice?
How dare
Should that 'someone'
Have that much independence?
And it will be mentioned...
Until forgiveness is begged!
Then...
These sheltered from reality 'predictables',
Pronounce an undying love and closeness to God!
Enough to turn a listener's stomach!
If an excuse hasn't already been made earlier to leave!

Those Who Annoint Themselves Qualified
What institutions do you have left,
That are steadfast and valid?
Hmmm,
Well...
The only ones that seem,
To have stood the test of time...
Are your 'mental institutions'.
However...
I do question their validity.
Since those who annoint themselves qualified,
To determine 'who' has mental issues...
Are the very ones responsible for the cause.
Happening at such alarming rates.
And I am glad you have asked me that question.
It just occurred to me...
Those who annoint themselves qualified,
To determine 'who' has mental issues...
Do so to keep themselves employed.
And...
Advocated for reasons why additional funding is needed,
To keep rehabilitation programs updated.
With the hiring of more qualified personnel a recommendation.
How clever.

Wisdom Of The Ages
(words & music by giant - baum - kaye)
Listen, to the wisdom of the ages
Listen, to the words of many sages
Live each day, as if it were your last
Its written in the stars, your destiny is cast
And that hourglass, runs too fast no doubt
For the sands of time are running out
Listen, to the wisdom of the ages
These words, can be found in historys pages
Live each day, for happiness cant wait
And love while you may, but heed the hand of fate
If the finger points, its too late no doubt
For the sands of time, are running out
But the man who turns, and escapes somehow
Is the wisest of men
And to such a man, Id bow

Listen
Listen to the vines with the thorns
For they are the tricksters
Listen to their wisdom
Listen to the trees
For they are the sages
Listen to them whisper their knowledge in your ear
Listen to the leaves
For they are the talkers
Listen to them talk
Listen to the stream
for it is the dreamer
Listen to its dreams
Listen to mother nature
For she is their mother
Listen with her for she is your mother too

Essential
I know I am more than qualified.
Every moment of my life,
Has been scrutinized under microscope.
When I used the bathroom...
There were those who gave up hope,
I could do that on my own.
Every step I made has been followed.
And attempts to overcome my weaknesses...
Were spent in public view.
I did not hide behind a desk.
Nor group with a clique...
To mask my defects.
I know I am more than qualified.
Every moment of my life,
Has been scrutinized under microscope.
I had been considered foolish...
Quite lazy and a joke.
And as I realized those who found time to criticize...
I knew then I was more than qualified.
Since I used my time...
Clearing obstacles off my path.
And thanking God along the way...
I had humor left to laugh,
At those who took their valuable time...
Finding fault with what I did.
When all I've done is to use my mind!
And blessed to have teachers,
Who knew how to subdue my ego!
And thanks to them I let that go when it annoyed!
I know I am more than qualified.
I am removed from that which had blinded my eyes!
Which in fact...
Just might make some folks highly dissatisfied,
That I have made my credentials far more essential...
Than I have utilized!
I like to keep that as a surprise!
It's fun to throw around a resumé every now and then.
Not to impress.
But just to get a moment's rest when interviewed.

Dont Let Me Go
So much to say
But where do I start
Would you listen if I spoke from the heart
Its simple things
That keep us apart
You know it doesnt have to be this way
Cant you hear it in my voice
You gotta listen when I say
Dont let me go when Im this low
Why cant we talk about it
Why cant we figure it out
I wanna know as people grow
How do they sort it all out
Work out what love is about
So tell me now yeah Ive gotta know
When this feeling Ive got wont let go
Some people stop
And some people stare
Im hearing whispers that you no longer care
Should I stay
Should I turn away
Stop playing games now you know its not fair
Cant you hear it in my voice
You gotta listen when I say
Dont let me go when Im this low
Why cant we talk about it
Why cant we figure it out
I wanna know as people grow
How do they sort it all out
Work out what love is about
So tell me now yeah Ive gotta know
When this feeling Ive got wont let go
You make me think Ive got this feeling for you
Ive tried so hard, wont you listen to me?
Cause we can make it we can see this through
Let me start by telling you
Dont let me go when Im this low
Why cant we talk about it
Why cant we figure it out
I wanna know as people grow
How do they sort it all out
Work out what love is about
So tell me now yeah Ive gotta know
When this feeling Ive got wont let go
