John McCarthy

Both politicians and journalists face situations which strain their honesty and humanity. My opinion is that politicians on the average stand up somewhat better than journalists.

I aint no christian or no born again saint
I aint no cowboy or marxist d.a.
I aint no criminal or reverend cripple from the right
I am just your average guy, trying to do whats right
Im just your average guy
An average guy
I am just your average guy
Im just an average guy
Average guy, Im just your average guy
Im average looking and Im average inside
Im an average lover and I live in an average place
You wouldnt know me if you met me face to face
Im just your average guy
Average guy
Average guy
Im just an average guy
I worry about money and taxes and such
I worry that my livers big and it hurts to the touch
I worry about my health and bowels
And the crime waves in the street
Im really just your average guy
Trying to stand on his own two feet
Im just your average guy
Im just your average guy
Im just your average guy
Average guy
Average looks, average taste
Average height, an average waist
Average in everything I do
My temperature is 98.2
Im just your average guy
An average guy
Average guy
Im just an average guy
Average guy
Im just your average guy
Im just your average guy
Im just your average guy

On Irish Politics And Politicians

Politics in the Republic of Ireland with any joy I can't recall
Nepotism rife in the ranks of the three major parties Labour, Fine Gael and Fianna Fail
Jobs for their kin and their mates only Irish Politicians in their ways so small
In Politics since my time in Ireland suppose things would not have changed much at all
I was never a member of any Irish Political Party to me they seemed a very flawed lot
The way they conducted their business I certainly haven't forgot
Any one party not cleaner than the other honest politicians anywhere hard to be found
I recall amongst Irish Politicians that nepotism did abound
They grew old and retired on their big pensions they took care of themselves and their own
Honesty and fairness with them not a high priority the most of them for such not known
When they spoke of doing good for the Country they did not mean what they did say
They only helped their families, friends and relations respect to them I could not pay
There were a few honourable Irish Politicians just a few that I can recall
But honesty does not survive well amongst Politicians they are a flawed lot overall.

Journalists Who Lie

Journalists who lie
Stealing the money
Prospering with spite
Hate-in-a-hurry
Oh, see how :
Theyre only trying to make their name
By spreading biz myth-lies
About the ones whove made their name
Stick in the knife
Stick in the knife
Journalists who lie
The truth is, it happens
Praise, then crucify
Just follow this pattern
And see how :
Theyre only trying to make their name
By spreading sickening lies
About the ones whove made their name
Mate, give us the knife
Give us the knife
Journalists who lie
So happy in malice
Rock star - out of line
So happy in malice
Oh ...
Journalists who lie
So sick and belaboured
They only want to be favoured
They only want to be favoured
See how :
Theyre only trying to make their name
With unprovable lies
About the ones
Whove made their name
In the black hole
Of your soul
Still bargaining away the truth
So easily
Truth
Journalists who lie
Stealing the money
Prospering with spite
And hate-in-a-hurry
Journalists who lie
The truth is, it happens
Praise, then crucify
Just follow this pattern
Journalists who lie
So sick and belaboured
They want to be favoured
They only want to be favoured

Moon-the Cheat

Moon refracts light of the sun
Politicians scam the lucre of the public

Moon revolves round the earth
Politicians revolve round their chairs

Moon lets only a few gases to be in its sphere
Politicians serve only for a few terms

People have a conceit to homestead on moon!
With the same notion,
why don't they enthrone a liable wight?

Propter hoc, moon and politicians have the same background
(like 2 peas in a pod)

Political Recall Nov 9th,2012

Canadian politicians like all politicians dread recall,
Whether it's federal, provincial or even city hall,
But how do we get rid of a dreadful useless politician?
And he's absolutely useless other than his/her ambition.

So a system of recall should be inaugurated now,
Though our politicians will try to stop it somehow,
Why does British Columbia have recall and we don't?
And why do they have set-date elections and our system wont?

And if that province can succeed here; why can't we?
There must be a system and somewhere someone must have the key,
Why does nobody mention it; as we get frequently swamped?
As we tolerate more useless politicians and no one will prompt.

Threats and Opportunities

Here’s three cheers
for Jon Haidt, who’s reminded us
in ‘The Happiness Hypothesis’
that our lingering primitive selves
respond more quickly to a threat
than to an opportunity…

and thus, a more powerful emotional weapon
in the hands of politicians and journalists
and others with an axe to sharpen..
while astute moneymakers, more than the rest of us,
look always for an opportunity…

so President Bush hastens to warn us
that ‘Iran remains a threat’…
and so do you, George…and
so do bananaskins, and wet leaves
on a warming sidewalk after frost…
and polar bears to garbage cans -
themselves under our human threat
from global warming…

It’s a world of threats, and threats of threats…
wars and rumours of wars, as the good book says…
maybe I should stay in today…but then…
was this, then, how the West was won?
I think not…

Some say, still say, that somewhere out there
there’s One who made a world
entirely of opportunities…

Meanwhile, pity politicians
in a world of spin:
if Dubbya-doh came out tomorrow
all bright-eyed and Bushy-tailed (by security men…)
and announced in upbeat tones,
‘Iran remains a golden opportunity…’
we’d all turn to each other and say,
‘What’s he up to, then? ? ’
and oil shares would fluctuate...

well, there you are… if boredom threatens at this point,
an ice-cold can of beer remains
a golden opportunity…
