I've been playing against older and stronger competition my whole life. It has made me a better tennis player and able to play against this kind of level despite their strength and experience.

Tennis
Some people say:
if you have strength
you don’t need brain,
but I would like to say:
it doesn’t come with tennis.
If you take a racket and go to a court,
my Lord!
You better use your brain
but not the mass
which is called ass.
I would like to confess:
playing tennis is like playing chess,
you certainly need strength
but using your smartness
you’ll go to the length,
you’ll get your revenge
and it won’t be strange.

In Hollywood people lie to each other and cheat each other and then go and play tennis. But I don't want to be a tennis player.

Acting with Denzel is like playing tennis with someone that's better than you. You either play better tennis or get blown off the court.
I was surprised I won the award because I've always been a very aggressive player and I earn my share of fouls on the court. I play rough, and because I'm an older player, of course I use tricks on the younger players.

When I play, I feel like I'm in a theatre, why should I look ugly then, because I'm a tennis-player?

I think I have a passion for playing the game. I love to play, and I want to play at a high level. You have to do the right things in order to continue at that level.

I was on the sideline with a knee injury and when I came back, I wanted to play at the best level I could. And that's the case for a lot of players, they want the chance to play against the best competition.

Actors need bricks to play with, and in fact we rejected all the improvised fragments we had made without a plan. Improvisation without a plan is like tennis without tennis balls.

Personal Best
There is a question controversial,
About the use of stimulants artificial,
By the sporting athletes, their performance,
In the sporting arena to enhance.
Sports icon Lance Armstrong,
Was stripped of his titles as wrong,
When the Tour de France cycling event he won,
For a record of seven times in a run.
He beat the malady-Cancer-with drugs,
And when his tests proved positive for drugs,
His fan-following world wide were shocked,
And all cancer patients with ire were up cocked.
All sports organizations consider the drugs unethical,
As they are subversive of fair play on a field level.
In sports the Olympic Motto is writ larger,
As CITIUS, ALTIUS, FORTIUS (faster, higher, stronger)
By which the athletes are invoked to win,
And break records in many a discipline.
Scientific training has also made contributions,
Added to which are the technological innovations,
Like the use of graphite in tennis racquets for playing,
And for the material in poles for pole-vaulting.
It is thus ethical to use such equipment for ranks,
And in mountaineering for the use of oxygen tanks.
These days there is an increasing competition,
And school children are driven by a compulsion,
To score better and better than their batch- peers,
Else, in the rat race they may be behind with tears.
For them to emerge as toppers, tutorials their lessons devise,
And some children use amphetamines to keep awake and revise,
Some students take coffee or tea or pills to keep in size,
Can these be called subversive and unethical wise?
It shouldn't be considered unsporting to use drugs,
Let all do their personal best in all things with drugs.
To ban all drugs and artificial stimulants—it is possible,
But to ban the spirit of competitiveness—it is impossible.

Can't Disturb These Folks
Are the buttocks firmer on athletes?
Those who adorn sneakers on courts...
Or play on fields wearing cleats?
Are they tighter on women?
Or men who play soccer?
It's harder to tell on those chasing a puck
As they hockey.
What do they see when they arrive at the lockers?
Or those racing horses...
And called jockeys.
Are they really jocks?
Who gave them names like these?
Women playing tennis,
Seem to have stronger thighs.
And why aren't there cheerleaders...
On the sidelines standing by?
And golf?
Ssssshhhh...
Can't disturb these folks.
You know how hard it is,
To get that tiny ball in the hole?
Well...
I am told it isn't difficult at all.
As long as you know how to find it!
And where it is!

I really try not to read the tennis articles, because a lot of times they're guessing at how a player is feeling, and I like to keep myself kind of open minded about how I'm feeling, rather than have someone else explain to me what's going on.

Strength
To sustain life
It is required
To have a tower of strength.
Life is negated
When there is lack of strength.
A strong and vigorous life
Entails harmony and unity.
A feeble and tame life
With short coming of strength
Accords disunity.
With strength you acquire a boon
Of unalloyed love.
With strength in paucity
You get impoverished
And are in the mundane level.
Strength with tenacity
Enables you to realize God
In your vicinity.

I play- it's kind of like a slice-of-life, LA women in their forties, playing forty kind of what's their friendship like, and what's their life like and so I just play one of the four friends.

Tennis
In the morning madness and the stabbing light
She pours the coffee and she says
What was wrong with you last night?
Dreams, just dreams my love, were half asleep
But the headlines on tennis
So it seems, everythings all right
Theres a girl from the midwest, with a pretty face
Scratched where it itched, they said it was a disgrace
I dont wanna go to work today
Wanna stay at home and watch that girl play
Do you like tennis?
Yes I do
There are people in boats in the middle of the sea
Crying and dying like jews
Do you like tennis?
Freedom is the man with the red grenade
She ran out of gas, got beat and raped
Do you like tennis?
Well do you like tennis?
Yes I do

The kind of society which we still have is maybe, in some cases, getting worse. Competition is becoming a virtue. Intense competition drives people to go more and more into self-interest. Even to see other folks as competition.

An Athlete and a Tennis player
They met finally and she's a sportswoman it seems
And he asked; ' Are you an athlete? '
'Sorry Honey, I never ran even in a dream
And you must be a Tennis player.' She replied.
'You have mistaken dear and these Tennis shoes I borrowed from a friend of mine.' He explained.
'That's fine and let's start running and we must be punctual at the trail of mysterious destiny.' She murmured like a singsong.

Between the amateur and the professional... there is a difference not only in degree but in kind. The skillful man is, within the function of his skill, a different psychological organization... A tennis player or a watchmaker or an airplane pilot is an automatism but he is also criticism and wisdom.

I want to see a player on the football field. I want to see what kind of teammate they are, what kind of leadership qualities they have. I want to see how aggressive they are, how much fun they have playing the game.
I don't want people losing respect for me as a player. I want to go out in every game and perform to the highest level. I have no retirement plans. I've had a lot of injuries but I want to continue playing.
