A symphony is a stage play with the parts written for instruments instead of for actors.

They were looking for actors - real actors - who could play instruments. There was a lot of improvisation and scene work involved in addition to the music. The auditions went on for a long time.

Mother Nature’s Symphony

There is a rhythm in the hiss
of water falling from a waterfall,
the breeze whistles
when it blows through hollows,
now add this cacophony of sounds
to other melodies of nature,
and soon you have a symphony
that can be heard around the world.
If you listen in the quiet,
you will surely hear
the different instruments at play
and the relaxing feel
of Mother Nature’s symphony.

Writing a play, you start with less, so more is demanded of you. It's as if you have to not only write a symphony, but invent the instruments as well.

The Stage

If the world is just a stage
and we're the actors in it,
why do the same ones get to play
the lead roles every minute?

For once I'd like to see a change
take place upon this stage
where the lead characters are the poor
stepping out of their cage.

Where all the minor roles would be given out
to all the power players
who've controlled this drama from the start
having never said their prayers.

And as the curtain rose each day
we would look and see
the poor and needy in front row seats,
the rulers in standing room only.

If this is just a stage we're on
and life is just a play,
then wouldn't it be ingenious
to see them all portray
us.

Letter to God

dear god
how little i feel
about myself
despite your claim
that i am the top
of your creation
a little virus
would kill me off
i feel mysellf
a plaything
your plaything
a toy, a puppet
and the world your stage
with my role written
where i should play out my part
talk about freewill?
is there one?
one plus one equals two
an empty stomach
does not have free will
to choose?
a woman with
near dead child at her hands
knows free will is spoken
only by the gods
in their written scripts
to enliven their puppets
to act out
i know too after all
the theatrical parts
like a buffalo led by the noose
i will be torn out
of existence
as you plan your next play
like the sun
that comes after heavy rain
the land cleaned of its dirt,
where fresh breeze blows
i am but then
would be lost
in existence
consciouness
torn to shreds
to get your next
theatre going
not a trace of mine
would be left
on this stage
where i had acted out my part
with flesh, blood and soul
free will
no freewill and all
god, you the puppeteers

The crossover wasn't happening. TV actors were TV actors, and film and stage actors were a whole different thing. And now there's just a lot of crossover.

Audition

Life, a Play
In three parts, now
Is two parts done.

In this,
The final interval
We rearrange our scores,
The Orchestra, still poised
Will sit
To practice discords
At the pit.

Then like rent cloth
The curtains start,
The stage is lit;
And I would venture
At my part...

Were I not so
Afraid of it.

The play-writes curse

The play-writes curse
~
Give me a stage
and the world to write
give me characters
to fit my plot line
give me time and money
to assemble my script
that I may play with ideas
and work what fits
give me the option
for a sudden plot twist
give me set designers
who understand my mind
and actors to follow
whatever my command
give me wine and ink
that I may drink them both
in all my madness
give me your hope
give me this and a stage
that I may write you a play
but please I beg of you
before you give me anything
give me the opening line

My Life Is Over With You

(clarke / hicks)
You wanna explain, thats why you called
Save your breath it doesnt matter at all,
Not now, my friend
You played your cards, and you made your choice
I dont wanna listen to your voice,
Not now, my friend
Ive found a new part to play in life
Theres different actors on my stage
Ill set the pace in a world without you
I dont wanna hear the things that you say
cos my life is over with you
Now you know whats on my mind
Dont call again cos you will find
I wont be here
You chose your path to walk along
Now I can sing a different song
I hope thats clear
Chorus
Ive found a new part to play in life
Theres different actors on my stage
Good bye, my love, and dont feel sad
Just because Im feeling glad
That youre not here
Youll go your way and Ill go mine
Maybe well meet some other time
Goodbye, my love
Chorus

Reward and punishment

A jealous Othello, an innocent Desdemona,
And a villain Iago, all played their parts
As per the scripts and directions, on the stage.
No one was hailed; No one was jailed.
The world is the stage on which we take parts
As Othellos, Desdimonas and Iagos.
Reward and punishment by God is a myth.

0316 Faith - For You Who Asked

Yes, there is a stage
and yes, there are actors;
a script to engage;
an experienced director..

Yes, indeed, I’ll pray for you
to the One they say best deems
those matters which may bless our soul
however strange they seem;

Oh yes, I will pray for you,
as much as human can;
but, add this wish from me for you,
which is more personal:

In course of time – who knows how long? –
may you look back and say,
‘Although it seemed ungodly cruel,
it turned out well for me..’

Yes, there is a stage
and yes, there are actors;
a script to engage;
an experienced director.

Written At Tunbridge—Wells, To The Right Honourable The Lady Barbara North

Faint--Fair, and act a Play.

In some few Hours we must repair,
To act, like Thespis, in the Fair:
And, as our Stage is of a Piece
With that transmitted down from Greece,
Some Pow'r celestial must unfold
Our Fable, too obscurely told:
And, since it helps the Poet's Art,
When Actors speak and look their Part;
Wonder not, fair One, that we sue,
The Goddess may be play'd by you.

Don't Play Me A Symphony

Don't Play me a Symphony
A simple song will do.

Diamond rings
Sparkling Bright
Gold and silver things
Candle lights
But I wish you bought
Real light
One day you understand
The meaning in my eyes.

Don't play me a symphony
A simple song will do
Don't buy me no jewellery
Won't make my dreams
Come true
Fancy cloths I never wore
And books I never read
All I want is your
Love is all I need.

Don't play me a symphony
I'd rather hear a song
Harm a note and melody
So I can harm along
Love is all I have to give
And love is all I need
All I want is your
love is all I need.

sympathy is not allowed
when you talk to me
you don't shout
if you gave more
more of your life
I could easily
One day be your wife.

Don't play me a symphony
A simple song will do
Don't buy me no jewellery
Won't make my dreams
Come true
Fancy cloths I never wore
And books I never read
All I want is your
Love is all I need.

Don't play me a symphony
I'd rather hear a song
Harm a note and melody
So I can harm along
Love is all I have to give
And love is all I need
All I want is your
Love is all I need.

Love is all I have to give
And love is all I need
All I want is your
Love is all I need.

I don't know how it is now but the assistant stage manager had to understudy several parts. You had to be ready to go on at any time if the actor couldn't make it to the play. I didn't think anything of it.

Dance all night and laugh all day

I like to prance all right
As I like to play
Let dance all night and dance whilst we pray,
For these avenues run straight to the heart, so we
Dance all night and laugh all day
And on our would the stage we’ll play our part
Nothing but actors imprisoned by a magnetic cage
So we hunt a thrill and kill the time
For we have potions and magic within our brains
I dance all night I dance all day as this is the energy of peace at play

When the heavens were created god was at play,
in the 6 he moulded and on the 7 rested a day
So in celebration we dance wholly with joy,
And with divinity, share energys between all within the routine
As we dance all night and we dance all day peace be upon us and us upon peace

Ritual One

As I enter the theatre the play is going on.
I hear the father say to the son on stage,
You’ve taken the motor apart.
The son replies, The roof is leaking.
The father retorts, The tire is flat.
Tiptoeing down the aisle, I find my seat,
edge my way in across a dozen kneecaps
as I tremble for my sanity.
I have heard doomed voices calling on god the electrode.
Sure enough, as I start to sit
a scream rises from beneath me.
It is one of the players.
If I come down, I’ll break his neck,
caught between the seat and the backrest.
Now the audience and the players on stage,
their heads turned towards me, are waiting
for the sound of the break. Must I?
Those in my aisle nod slowly, reading my mind,
their eyes fixed on me, and I understand
that each has done the same.
Must I kill this man as the price of my admission
to this play? His screams continue loud and long.
I am at a loss as to what to do,
I panic, I freeze.

My training has been to eat the flesh of pig.
I might even have been able to slit a throat.
As a child I witnessed the dead chickens
over a barrel of sawdust absorbing their blood.
I then brought them in a bag to my father
who sold them across his counter. Liking him,
I learned to like people and enjoy their company too,
which of course brought me to this play.
But how angry I become.
Now everybody is shouting at me to sit down,
sit down or I’ll be thrown out.
The father and son have stepped off stage
and come striding down the aisle side by side.
They reach me, grab me by the shoulder
and force me down. I scream, I scream,
as if to cover the sound of the neck breaking.

All through the play I scream
and am invited on stage to take a bow.
I lose my senses and kick the actors in the teeth.

There is more laughter
and the actors acknowledge my performance with a bow.
How should I understand this?
Is it to say that if I machine-gun the theatre
from left to right they will respond with applause
that would only gradually diminish with each death?
I wonder then whether logically I should kill myself
too out of admiration. A question indeed,
as I return to my seat and observe a new act
of children playfully aiming their kicks
at each other’s groins.
