It seems obvious to me that the notion of God has never been anything but a kind of ideal projection, a reflection upward of the human personality, and that theology never has been and never can be anything but a more and more purified mythology.

What has 'theology' ever said that is of the smallest use to anybody? When has 'theology' ever said anything that is demonstrably true and is not obvious? What makes you think that 'theology' is a subject at all?

I believe in mythology. I guess I share Joseph Campbell's notion that a culture or society without mythology would die, and we're close to that.

It Ain't Obvious

I keep trying
but I'm running out of ways to make you want me baby
I cannot be everything you want you drive me crazy
you're never satisfied
its not even worth a try times are for making up your mind
maybe we'll never see eye to eye

so treat me cruel to be kind
lets play it straight down the line
I'm sure you wanna be mine
but it ain't obvious

why cant you just let it be
what would you have me believe
I'm sure you really want me
but it ain't obvious

why don't you put a little trust in me
and let it go
if you don't take a chance
how will you ever know
baby im on your side

have I been foolish all along
have you been leading me on
just to walk away
if this is where you belong

so treat me cruel to be kind
lets play it straight down the line
I'm sure you wanna be mine
but it ain't obvious

why cant you just let it be
what would you have me believe
I'm sure you really want me
but it ain't obvious

but it ain't obvious
but it ain't obvious
but it ain't obvious
but it ain't obvious

come on wont you be with me
what would you have me believe
come on wont you be with me
oh no no

if its not even worth a try times are for making up your mind
maybe we'll never see eye to eye

no no

so treat me cruel to be kind

Louis Pasteur

The greatness of human actions is measured by the inspiration that it brings. Blessed is he who carries within himself a God, an ideal of beauty and obeys it: an ideal of art, ideal of science, ideal of country, ideal virtues of the Gospel! These are the wellsprings of great thoughts and great actions. All reflections illuminate infinity.

Seen And Not Seen

He would see faces in movies, on T.V., in magazines, and in books....
He thought that some of these faces might be right for him....And
through the years, by keeing an ideal facial structure fixed in his
mind....Or somewhere in the back of his mind....That he might, by
force of will, cause his face to approach those of his ideal....The
change would be very subtle....It might take ten years or so....
Gradually his face would change its' shape....A more hooked nose...
Wider, thinner lips....Beady eyes....A larger forehead.
He imagined that this was an ability he shared with most other
people....They had also molded their faced according to some
ideal....Maybe they imagined that their new face would better
suit their personality....Or maybe they imagined that their
personality would be forced to change to fit the new appear-
ance....This is why first impressions are often correct...
Although some people might have made mistakes....They may have
arrived at an appearance that bears no relationship to them....
They may have picked an ideal appearance based on some childish
whim, or momentary impulse....Some may have gotten half-way
there, and then changed their minds.
He wonders if he too might have made a similar mistake

My Ideal Man

A man of 360 degrees personality.
A man of many colours.
A man of many souls,
Suited for every single season,
Tailored for a fair number of tasks.
He is my ideal man.

It is not his outward beauty,
But his devastating internal brilliance.
A man of amazing aspiration,
Who issues incredible inspiration.
You are my ideal man.

A man like a magnet,
Drawing into his fold and bosom,
All panaches of people,
‘Cos he commands remarkable respect,
And radiates astonishing admiration.
That is my ideal man.

A man like Solomon,
Displaying incomparable intelligence,
Demonstrating wondrous wisdom,
Deadly dependable for solutions,
A consistent counselor,
And a handy one-stop resource center.
You are my ideal man.

A man of the people,
Sympathetic and exceptionally empathetic, ,
Firm but flagrantly fair,
Identifying persistently with the people,
Fighting with and for the people,
Sharing joy and pain with the people.
You are my ideal man.

My ideal man,
Lastly but foremost,
A paragon of a God-fearing person.
With biblical statutes his only standards.
A man honourable but humble,
A man of humility and humor,
A man of love, peace and truth,
A man of Godly justice,
Not fearing whose ox is jabbed.
He is my ideal man

Not About This

It is not about the classic rivers
of mythology, not about Acheron,
river of woe with its lines of unemployed
holding their migraines in their hands.

Or Cocytus, river of lamentation
where the elderly have gone
to grieve their condition.

It cannot be this.

Not the river of fire,
the lava flowing from another volcanic shudder
into the homes of the living & the dead,
& into the stories of new generations.

For these are byproducts,

shining as they are-

It is not about the river of forgetfulness,
inviting as the night visits the tortured mind.
No, not this, or the waters of hate
& the butchered bodies stacked along shorelines
& the lost women trying to find their sons,

or the river of return,

not the red river of consolation
wound about the heart
& through the vineyards,
or how our loves came to be,
then left us again to ourselves.

It is not about the oldest & saddest river,
the river of time, with flashes of metallic film
sliding by, gathering momentum
& the sufaces of faces,
the faces of phantoms,
(I have seen myself among them.)

It cannot be about theology,
or if it is, it is the theology of celestial mechanics,
the giant narrative of everything,
the source of energy, (& its forms,)
crunching itself out through the heavens.

Light Behind The Glass Jalousy Panes

the shadows of the fence
mark upon the glass
some kind of curves in iron
casting a design of beauty
in concentric circles
and i look upon it on a kind
of reflection that sometimes
on closed window panes
the world outside seems to
be more beautiful when
seen openly like an undressed
human being.
