Sailor's Harbor
My thoughts, like sailors becalmed in Cape Town harbor,
Await your return, like a favorable wind, or like
New tackle for the voyage, without which it is useless starting.
We watch the sea daily, finish our daily tasks
By ten in the morning, and with the day to waste,
Wander through the suburbs, with quiet thoughts of the brothels,
And sometimes thoughts of the churches.
In the eating-houses we always contrive to get near to
The window, where we can keep an eye on the life-
Bearing sea. Suddenly a wind might blow, and we must not miss
First sight of the waves as they darken with promise for us.
We have been here too long. We know the quays,
And the streets near the quays, more than should ever be necessary.
When can we go on our way?
Certain we are of this, that when the wind comes,
It may be deceptive and sweet and finally blow
To shipwreck and ruin between here and the next port of call.
At all times we think of this. At last we have come to know
The marine charts can safely assure us of less and less
As we go farther south. So we cannot go out on the boulevards
Or climb Table Mountain,
Though if we had certainty, here there might be delight.
But all that is world in itself, the mountain, the streets,
The sand-dunes outside the town, we shyly and sadly return from.
They are too much to bear. And our curiosity
Lies alone in the over-scrubbed decks and the polished brasses
(For we have to look trim in the port) and in
The high-piled ambiguous cargo.

The Good Craft _Snow Bird_
Strenuous need that head-wind be
From purposed voyage that drives at last
The ship, sharp-braced and dogged still,
Beating up against the blast.
Brigs that figs for market gather,
Homeward-bound upon the stretch,
Encounter oft this uglier weather
Yet in end their port they fetch.
Mark yon craft from sunny Smyrna
Glazed with ice in Boston Bay;
Out they toss the fig-drums cheerly,
Livelier for the frosty ray.
What if sleet off-shore assailed her,
What though ice yet plate her yards;
In wintry port not less she renders
Summer's gift with warm regards!
And, look, the underwriters' man,
Timely, when the stevedore's done,
Puts on his _specs_ to pry and scan,
And sets her down--_A, No. 1._
Bravo, master! Bravo, brig!
For slanting snows out of the West
Never the _Snow-Bird_ cares one fig;
And foul winds steady her, though a pest.

The Course
Just as a ship sets sail and leaves her berth,
Her goal a port across the sea,
A new life starts a voyage from its birth,
No knowledge of its fate to be.
Smooth sailing rarely is the course of life,
For storm and tempest all will see;
The course of men's lives mixed of joy and strife,
In different measures though they be.
The chart of life a voyage by time drawn,
It inches on as days they pass.
The waves that break upon the reef at dawn,
The wary see with eye to glass.
There shoals exposed, as waves foam into spray,
And siren's voices tempt one on
To rocks, where wrecks of souls bemoan the day
They ventured close to ground thereon.
While some who founder, by bad luck are cursed,
Some careless to destruction sail.
The former despite care and thought, submersed,
The later by their own hand fail.
The goal of life: To reach the port and rest,
With sweet adventure on the way;
To navigate life's ocean depths and test
One's will, the charted course to stay.

Nostalgic wind takes me homebound
Facing strong wind and heavy rain today.
All the vessels in the harbor secured safely.
And the Tugs are in their weather-watch
in case of emergency.
Like a tigress the horrible wind comes
how soft when she is normal
chime like wind bells.
I heard a ship was calling from afar
she is heading to another port
humbly request a shelter in anchorage
until the bad weather get settled.
Though I am alert in the port
I feel like a ship in her pitching & rolling
in the deep sea.
And the the strong wind take me home.
Oh! my loved ones at shore
and I can see them waving happily.

After a prosperous, but to me very wearisome, voyage, we came at last into port. Immediately on landing I got together my few effects; and, squeezing myself through the crowd, went into the nearest and humblest inn which first met my gaze.

There is a tide in the affairs of men, Which taken at the flood, leads on to fortune. Omitted, all the voyage of their life is bound in shallows and in miseries. On such a full sea are we now afloat. And we must take the current when it serves, or lose our ventures.

Respect the doer of mean works
Respect them who do works
That demand no respects
More than them who do works
That command reverence.
Not prepared for such works
That are held low or mean,
You must at least respect
Them who do men works to you.
As a doctor serves you
A barber too serves you.
As a teacher serves you
A sweeper too serves you.

As, however, the port in reality lies in thirty-two degrees thirty-four minutes, according to the observations that have been made, they went much beyond it, thus making the voyage much longer than was necessary.

Landscape 23 Come Away!
When I was young and the wind was right
I could hear the foghorns down on the Thames
The great sea-voices of the ships
Coming into the Port of London
Bass siren songs in slow harmony
Calling me to faraway places
Now both the port and I have moved
And these mournful calls just a memory
But sometimes at night when the wind is right
I can hear the freight train’s horn
A mile of freight cars hauling west
And the old wanderlust stirs faintly

Port Adelaide
It is the great City of Port Adelaide
Where heroes are born and legends are made
In the Australian Football League they have their own football team
For to play for Port Adelaide many Port teens do dream.
A place where Indigenous and white Australia meet
And different races live on every street
The Indigenous tribes had their corroborees long ago
By the trees near the banks where the Port waters flow.
Many nineteenth century buildings in Port Adelaide remain
Which one does suppose goes in part to explain
Why so many visitors come to that Town
Port's history is far more than football renown.
The Port river dolphins are famed far and wide
One can see them surface from the harbour side
A tourist attraction and it would be fair to say
That seeing them has made many a vistor's day.
Where the cultures meet Indigenous and European
Port Adelaide a Town where all races are seen
When in South Australia I feel at home there
Few Towns with Port Adelaide can hope to compare.

Eavan's Grandma
She feared the women
at the port when her
husband's ship docked
there the port.
She went to the port
to see her husband
each time he arrived
I like the man
and the wife.
'Aren't they
the same kind of girls
anyway? ' he thinks,
she doesn't know it.

Returning to Port
This ship is
weary
from a long
voyage at sea.
The storms of
life
have bashed
against the
mask
Ripping it to
shreds
only shreds
remain.
Bathing in the
rain
churning against
the bow
tearing at the
interior.
Almost
destroying
the contents
the journey
so difficult.
Now she must
return
to the port
for repairs.

This Wheels On Fire
(dylan)
This wheels on fire
This wheels on fire
This wheels on fire
If your memory serves you well
Were gonna meet again and wait
So Im gonna pack all my things
And sit there for it gets to late
No my ? ? ? will come to you
With another tale to tell
And you know that we shall meet again
If your memory serves you well
Wheels on fire
Rollin down the road
Lets notify my next of kin
This wheel shall explode
If your memory serves you well
I was gonna confiscate your lace
And wrap it up in a sailors knot
And hide it in your case
If I knew for sure that it was yours
But it was so hard to tell
And you know that we shall meet again
If your memory serves you well
Chorus
This wheels on fire
This wheels on fire
This wheels on fire
If your memory serves you well
Youll remember youre the one
That called on me to call on them
To get your favours done
And after every ? ? ? I failed
And there was nothin more to tell
You knew that we should meet again
If your memory serves you well
This wheels on fire
This wheels on fire
This wheels on fire

USS Zydecoldsmobile
You can feel the horses under the hood
Through thick and thin pull us out of the wood
She's the smoothest ride, yeah, you'll ever feel
She's the Delta slide of automobiles
Double clutchin' on the backseat
I hear you, yeah, with your main squeeze
Playing triple row accordian fills
In the USS ZydecOldsmobile
Port of Call Opelousas
Port of Call Lawtell
Port of Call Frilot Cove
In the USS ZydecOldsmobile
Mardi Gras run block the road
Park the car and join the show
Get up on the trunk and dance at will
Aboard the USS ZydecOldsmobile
Port of Call Opelousas
Port of Call Lawtell
Port of Call Frilot Cove
In the USS ZydecOldsmobile
Yeah, Spirit moves through everyone
We have faith and we have fun
God bless the turning wheel
Of my USS ZydecOldsmobile
Port of Call Opelousas
Port of Call Lawtell
Port of Call Frilot Cove
In the USS ZydecOldsmobile
Come ride with me in my ZydecOldsmobile
Double clutchin' with me in my ZydecOldsmobile
Hip shakin' with me in my ZydecOldsmobile
Come ride with me in my ZydecOldsmobile

The Voyage
We all are on a voyage,
a voyage to the stars.
None of us will get there
in big old fancy cars.
Some of us will get there
long before some others.
But it doesn't matter
for we're sisters and brothers.
This voyage must be taken
on a solo flight.
It will only happen
when you see the light,
the light that shines so brightly
right before your eyes.
The star that you will go to
will make you realize
that earth is just a temporary place
we come to visit.
It feels like home for a while
and maybe you will miss it.
But when you reach that star
that you're headed for
all your memories will return
like walking through a door.
The stars are out there twinkling
all through the night,
twinkling out a message
to all that see its light,
saying'I'm waiting for your voyage.
Come back home to me.
I'm the star you've reached for
throughout eternity.'

Ipocalypse Now!
We're headed for Ipocalypse!
June eighth will soon be here.
IP addresses running out.
What will we do? Oh dear!
Four Billion addresses weren't enough
for every thing that beeps:
Desktops, laptops, mobile phones
and GPS in Jeeps.
Fear not! June eighth will be the test
of a higher protocol
and if the system doesn't crash
they'll be numbers for you all.
But if IP V six
should crash and burn
You should not be dismayed
The internet won't disappear
but slowly will degrade.
